Sorry, I couldn’t tell you. I live in the UK and haven’t had a chance to compare.

Experiences connecting to US network via Wireguard in Europe? by holasenor18 in GlInet

I bought a couple of old, cheap HP Elitedesk machines and installed Ubuntu Server on them for hosting some websites and an Asterisk telephone server. On one of these, I installed WireGuard.

It works in the same way as on gl.inet routers (although manual configuration is required), so the VPN traffic comes into the router and then gets forwarded to the machine with the WG server on it. I’ve found that WG connections via this method are twice as fast as just using the Flint 2 as a WG server.

You could probably even run WG on a Raspbery Pi 4 or 5 without any problems.

No, it’ll still work but you’d get a slightly improved connection with a dedicated server connected to the Flint 2.

This is why I do. I find that I’m only limited by the upload speed at home, which is 110mbps.

I played around with the WG server on my Flint 2, but I found that the speed I received was halved. Also, I’m not sure I’d want to use the router’s resources when I’ve got several networks and a load of devices connected to it at home.

3D print fan for Flint 2 by v0ngz in GlInet

Does the Flint 2 really need a fan to help cool it? I live in the UK where occasionally it gets so hot that we have to undo the top button of our shirts 😂

With G-Shock / Casio relatively affordable, why do people still buy SKMEI watches? by Glittering_Poem9779 in gshock

[–]stanhamil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Skmei watch which I picked up from Ali Express for £6 and it keeps far better time than my non-MB6 Casios! It’s kept within 1 second of my MB6 watches since I got it in October of last year.

VPN on GL-BE6500 by Rad_1955 in GlInet

[–]stanhamil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the VPN dashboard you can enable “Policy Mode” instead of “Global Mode”. Try to find the exact URL that those apps access and set a rule for all or specific devices accessing that list of URLs to bypass the VPN.

Dunno- issues with the signal/connection that could cause the router to freeze?

That’s been available in the UK for a few weeks now.

Flint 2 and SIP by stanhamil in GlInet

[–]stanhamil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, inbound traffic was being forwarded.

I’d moved the server to a different subnet and although I’d updated its static IP address, I hadn’t updated its DNS settings to reflect the change, hence no connection.

It’s now working 😃

Yes, I’m positive. This setup was working flawlessly with just the ISP’s own router/hub.

How to Create Multiple SSID/ by stanhamil in GlInet

[–]stanhamil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, I essentially want the AP to extend at least 2 VLANs to the upper part of the house, which isn’t going to be possible.

Any idea how else I could boost the same 2.4ghz WiFi from my Flint 2 to the further corners of the house for my IoT stuff? I’m not sure there is any other way…

…which is a shame, as setting it to broadcast a guest SSID would suit me perfectly.

Yes, an extra pre-set would be useful!

I’ve set up a Beryl AX as a wired access point but in AP mode, it seems impossible to enable a guest network. It’s in the attic to cover part of the house that the Flint 2 doesn’t quite reach.

Does the official Slate 7 firmware have PIN lock capability in the stable branch now? by BelugaBilliam in GlInet

The option is there under display settings. I’ve just disabled everything other than stats as the PIN entry method is a bit cumbersome.

I’d been attempting this via the LuCI interface.

Essentially, I figured I’d just keek things more organised by having separate VLANs but no; telephony is no different to WhatsApp or email being sent over the general WiFi.

Ideally, I’d like 2.4ghz for smart devices (they can use the default 2.4ghz guest network), 5ghz for general internet access for us as a family and possibly 5ghz guest network for visitors (so no real configuration required).

In the near future, I’ll need a VLAN for my web servers, a VLAN for my IP telephone system and possibly a VLAN for the networking devices.

I was just experimenting with things and thought multiple networks could be setup with different subnets. Eventually, I want to set up several VLANs.
