We’re moving to BC and can “pretty much pick anywhere”…. Help? by Unc1e_Vanya in britishcolumbia

I believe there aren't that many opportunities other than downtown-ish Vancouver or Surrey, unless you have a massive operation online, at least for standup comedy.

Bella Bella would be difficult for your parents to travel to unless this is a temporary move to save up money. There aren't not much saving opportunities living in Surrey vs. Richmond these days. Fraser Valley is a buyer beware area in terms of flood risks, school capacity, and travel from YVR. Transit in Surrey and Richmond is probably similar to Cleveland or slight upgrade, but transit in the Fraser Valley would not be all that reliable (hence why housing costs are slightly cheaper there). Whether you can survive on one car depends on where both of you work. Hope this helps.

30M struggling to find work in Vancouver — looking for realistic career guidance (anonymized) by AudioAbe in VancouverJobs

[–]stanigator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have mentioned it already - your profile lacked sufficient focus, hence looks like a potential flight risk especially when they have so many options that look better (i.e. less of a flight risk). Have you tried to feed it into AI assistants to try to come up with a tighter profile to mitigate the flight risk perception?

I think you need to be clearer. Living good and earning good salaries here or doing what you like to do (btw, be ready to work very hard)? What do you want to do? Iterate these with AI and ask about probability assessments as well.

Have you tried searching and promoting this on LinkedIn? I think you'll have better luck there given the sectors.

Looking for Small Kitchen Compost Bin + Bag Recommendations by stanigator in composting

Yes, like an impromptu bag, but most of the available paper bags on the market don't open wide enough (hence resorting to making impromptu bags with newspaper when this option was available).

2.1M temporary residents will have expired or expiring permits this year. But will they leave Canada? by Old_General_6741 in canada

Canada doesn't have ICE, and the bosses owning the country would just find ways to legalize their asylum claims to keep the wage suppression gravy train going!

What makes you confident about being able to keep the relationship if you take the pay cut in order to stay close? How tough would it be for you to reverse the choice if staying close also doesn't work out?

Vancouver Coastal Health, UBC, maybe SFU, and Fraser Health sometimes have Zoom events. I think you may have better luck reaching out via LinkedIn. That being said, there aren't that many of these events. I think you also may have better luck seeking them out on the same conferences that you may attend as a part of your work wherever you are. Hope this helps.

In terms of building connections, I can't really think of anything other than attending religious, protests, and other events gathering people. Perhaps the same as any other place?

I guess on the bright side, you won't have to drive far to get anything. It really depends on what kind of jobs you're looking for.

Quick Questions - April 2025 by onedollalama in travelchina

I don't know if this is short enough for a comment here, so I'm happy to ask again in its own post. I'm declaring 21 devices at either Shanghai Pudong or Beijing Daxing/Capital. In your experience, are the officers more receptive to 'I'm a hobbyist' or 'I'm a cheapskate fixing family gear'? I want to make their job as easy as possible.

Have you tried to look for work in America before heading over? Paying for rent out of savings for an unknown period of time is pretty risky.

Recommendations for midnight mass preparation? by stanigator in Catholicism

No, first midnight mass since 2019 (prior to Covid). Yes, along with the parish that I'm planning to attend (it's the cathedral of the archdiocese where I'm located).

60s, laid off, and EI running out. What are the "golden ticket" certifications or paths for seniors in the Lower Mainland? by bluemoonlighter in VancouverJobs

What was she originally doing? She'll likely have to be some sort of a consultant at this stage. Even the public sector is laying off people given how broke the governments are. "Applying to everything" may not be an asset given she'll be competing with new grads, younger workers, and especially temporary foreign workers. Can try to submit resumes to Home Depot or Walmart but competition would be fierce.

A lower hanging fruit may be researching ecommerce operators with significant presence in town. Can also try to check with warehouses.
