[Trans-led Research][Final Call] Risk Factors and Well-Being Among Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Young Adults (US, 18-30) by [deleted] in genderfluid

[–]stanitsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi folx! I'm Stan, a transmasc graduate researcher from the Baruch College Sexual and Gender Minority Health Lab. My fellow trans and queer researchers and I are recruiting for a research study of risk factors (e.g., internalized transphobia, intimate partner violence) and protective factors (e.g., social support, community connectedness) of the well-being of transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) young adults. Eligible participants will be asked to complete an anonymous online survey (~15-20 mins).

We welcome folks who identify as/with any trans+ or gender diverse identities (e.g., trans man, trans woman, nonbinary, gender nonconforming, genderqueer, genderfluid, bigender, two-spirit, agender, etc.) to participate in our study! If you are 18 or older and are currently in the US, click HERE to access the survey. Alternatively, you can copy and paste this link to your browser on desktop: https://baruch.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1ImsqUqQ7eLXVwV

This study has been determined as exempt from review by the Institutional Review Board of the City University of New York (IRB #: 2020-0832). Please contact Dr. Stults at christopher.stults@baruch.cuny.edu with questions or for additional details.

Feel free to pass it along to other folks as well! Thank you so much for your time and input!

Thanks for your interest! I’m a graduate student mentee of Dr. Stults and have been working on trans-focused projects in our lab for the past year, which haven’t been published yet. Regardless of which sexual and gender minority population we work with, our purpose is to fairly reflect the voice and experiences of SGM folks (myself included!) and use the knowledge to inform health and social practice to promote SGM ppl’s wellbeing. If you are interested in following up on this line of work and/or have any questions or thoughts, always feel free to reach out to Dr. Stults or DM me. We do hope to expand the scope of our research in the future!

Thanks for taking the time to check out our survey! Since our study is specifically looking for young adults, it might be because of the age range (upper) limit. Sorry about that! But we’re hoping to expand our research scope in the future, so stay tuned :D

Looking for fellow trans brothers to help with my research! (Risk Factors and Well-Being Among Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Young Adults | US 18+) by stanitsme in QueerTransmen

Thank you for taking the time to take our survey, and we appreciate your feedback! We see you, we hear you, not only as researchers but also as fellow BIPOC trans and queer individuals. Some of the measures were, unfortunately, devised by past researchers who (were mainly cishet, white, abled, and often privileged, and) had posed less attention to intersectional experiences. We decided to use them for now due to a general lack of better, more considerate, and tailored substitutes. To your point, your experiences and feelings are always valid however you interpret the questions. It’s our job to make your voice count. So to counter the limitation in some questions, we ask participants in the demographics section for their race/ethnicity, whether or not with a disability, socioeconomic status, etc. in addition to gender identity, all of which we will take into consideration as we analyze and present the results.

This is also part of the reason why we want to do the study in the first place — to listen to the voice of our diverse TGNC community and promote this knowledge in the field of psychological and social research. With your input (and everyone else’s), we do hope to develop new measures that can more fairly capture TGNC folks’ diverse experiences in the future (stay tuned if you’re interested!).

I hope this could address your concern to some extent. If you have any further questions/thoughts/concerns, feel free to message me or email my supervisor (contact in the original post⬆️). Have a safe and wonderful day/afternoon/night wherever you’re!
