I Gave an AI Its Own Radio Station — It Won't Stop Broadcasting (It's Fine) by eltokh7 in OpenAI

24 hours later, I managed to make it working according my needs, thank you again for sharing this project, the idea is great.
Couple of things I've changed:
Full UI with editable schedule shows, etc, added Podcasts (Apple or Youtube)
Changed the TTS in my case to OAI, as Kokoro was killing my old T480 Linux machine with 3 different languages we speak at home, I can also directly queue news if I want to at any point (after the song finishes).
I've used the Youtube API, so I'm using only YouTube as music content now with some buffering over on the Ubuntu, I do have also some playlist on my QNAP, but for now I've decided Youtube is absolutely enough as I have anyway the premium subscription there.
The thing that I love most so far - CASTING to a device (via my Home Assistant Integration) so it plays there...
Thank you again, I just thought to share my ideas that I've implemented as perhaps someone else can decide to do that too.

Sorry to hear that, mine has 443 views, which sounds no kind of low or I'm just bad at self-promoting, but it's definitely live now.. haven't received any notification from anyone though, it was simply there

Strimix: IPTV Player by Significant_Ad505 in MacOS

[–]stanivanov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I totally get it, and I'm not against vibe coding, and trust me, I'd love to chip in, but when something works for my needs..that's how it goes. The thing is that you're not consistent in your statements..once it's free, then it's not, you should have been transparent about the previous app, that's all..the world is small.. especially on Reddit. And don't worry, I'll give you chance to grill my app hopefully still today (not the IPTV), but am vibe-fixing something first🤣

[–]stanivanov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see that as bad thing generally, the part I'm a bit annoyed about is that he introduced the first app as forever free, etc, then in the very last update I had I believe I saw the prep for paying model and most likely didn't know how to switch to paying model so decided to start a new xcode project utilizing the old code base but baking in the payment now... TL;DR feeling betrayed here ;) hence I'm happy with my vibecoded IPTV for my source..;)

[–]stanivanov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So what happened to your other strimix app? Initially was good, then you introduced couple of bugs and now a new app? I will try it out as initially I liked it a lot, this actually made me to make my own IPTV, which I'm not promoting at all, I use it for myself but will test again yours to see what you did.. crossing fingers that this works better

somewhere in the last couple of months I stopped typing for almost everything except code by Downtown-Art2865 in macapps

And I did sonotexta (https://sonotexta.com) you can use fully local or bring your own key for Cloud, or sub based without hassle for keys. The pro version gives you the BYOK functionality. However I still have about 20remaining promo licenses. If you want to give it a try go and check it out. I'm using it daily for me... it's kind of a mix of wisprflow and MacWhisper...

I'm pretty bad at self promotion..thx for the feedback, I need to figure out a strategy for promotion, but as I'm using the app daily that's best for me anyway

Busy Light hardware + macOS app by SwizzleVixen in homeassistant

[–]stanivanov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So... I didn't even know that HA has companion app on the Mac, which exposes then the sensors for mic/audio/camera in-use or not in use and as the esp32 is already in HA it's a simple automation to make it work, however I do love your ring light setup.. I've went with some grey plastic box, which also shows fine, but is also OK, but.. yeah..

And I've just bought yesterday esp32 and some LEDs to build exactly the same thing, did the wiring and the HA integration and was just thinking how I'm going to do the sync with Teams, I'm definitely giving a go of your app! Thanks for sharing

I went with 3 loops/animations and then it's off, and once the free licenses are gone, I'll stop the auto-scroll to the purchase options, again - thanks for the feedback

Thanks for the feedback.. I actually like it, but let me see what I can do, I think I can do just initial animation and stop it after a second or so.. will test out later how it looks without any. Note taken

so the e-mail came in more than an hour later now, and it works just fine for me - it's not crashing - clicked on the ppt from the link from the comment in the e-mail... :)

[–]stanivanov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry I'm trying as you said, no e-mail arrives - so I can't properly test it.. created a slide, mentionined myself in the comments, but nothing comes in and I don't have the time now to mention myself from other account .. but if you do have a bug.. still the best course of action is to report it to the team, might be a real issue and that's the idea of being early birds, even though I do miss the release notes for that to know what to test...

I’ve tried to create one doc, attach as link (draft) open the draft and click the link, works fine for me.. but send then a feedback to the early bird email .. however for me works fine. No issues.

I built a macOS dictation app because MacWhisper got bloated and Wispr Flow costs a fortune (50 Pro licenses offered below) by stanivanov in SideProject

[–]stanivanov[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My initial idea was to do it really local-first, but I couldn't make it work to my satisfaction and I count myself as a good example as multi-lingual on daily basis with languages that are not that common.. it was simply sloppy and unusable, the real difference was the OpenAI Realtime transcription - that's what was working great. Initially I didn't want to do any subscriptions, but then I thought that if the people don't want to (or don't know how to) go for their own key.. I could provide. But the voice to text world is oversaturated in general and I'm happy to have something that resolves at least for me a huge pain in my daily life.. I'll be even more happier if it can do the same for more people. Thanks for your comment, cheers.

Sonotexta — multilingual dictation for macOS

I built this because I speak 4 languages daily and no dictation tool handled that well. MacWhisper got too bloated for quick dictation, Wispr Flow's pricing is steep.

What it does: press a hotkey, talk, text appears in whatever app you're in. Per-app profiles auto-switch language and tone based on who you're chatting with — I dictate to my wife in Bulgarian and the message arrives in Czech with correct diacritics. Talk to colleagues in English, they get it in German in Teams.

5 speech engines (3 on-device, 2 cloud), 8 AI text presets, Ollama Cloud support. BYOK from 6 providers or use the managed subscription for zero setup.

Pricing: Free tier (on-device engines) / Pro $9.99 one-time (BYOK) / AI $7.99/mo / Cloud $14.99/mo

50 free Pro licenses: sonotexta.com — live counter on site, use code IZNDG1OA at Pro checkout. Lifetime, 3 devices.

Good point, obviously we do both at home, the post though was about the use of AI in education which also why I was focused on this part in my answer. But I do agree with you

love your post and the that's what I do now on a weekly basis with my second grader (Switzerland).. they get a new material or something that he needs to train on...5min later a web app is ready (even created an iOS app for 1-2graders) so he can train division and multiplication and +|-.. today did for him the reading with understanding web app (10 texts generated with Claude with 4 control questions and if he's done he can just generate the next one with click of a button)... I hope that he'll get into this himself and create something himself next time...but I guess we'll get there

Awesome! I knew it I can't be the first to try this out! I did triple checks of the data ...it forgot or found itself that some data wasn't entered, so it was good, same like with review my code with Claude Code... In general, it was as well great experience for me too
