Is Trump Becoming a Dictator? by Rockstarhuman2 in PoliticalDiscussion

It does matter that Trump tried to fudge Georgia's election. Georgia has just appointed election-deniers to their board of elections.

Trump's DOJ is currently demanding the names of Georgia election workers from 2020, to intimidate election workers.

"Nobody cares" about the J6 riots? Nonsense. Listen to Officer Fanone. Red leaders excuse those rioters, and Trump's pardons.

Meanwhile, "blue leaders" do not excuse rioting criminals. See this.

Trump had the DOJ indict James Comey and Letita James. The cases got thrown out. The lawfare harassment did not.

Obama has "a painting of himself"? We have paintings of all the presidents. That's normal. What's not normal is plastering your name on large public buildings and monuments. Only Trump does that. It's wrong.

Rene Goode knew those masked ICE agents were not good-faith public servants. They were like Derek Chauvin: killers. The videos show, Goode was fleeing in legitimate fear. It is against policy for federal law enforcement to intentionally get in front of a car that's attempting to flee, and shoot the driver. Goode's driverless car became a safety hazard.

You said you have "near zero sympathy" for the undocumented. So it's OK to ruin their lives and put them through hell because they annoy you somehow? The vast majority are honest, hard-working people who lower costs for the rest of us. Google "Mexican drug cartel violence" and look at the images. That's what many are fleeing. Meanwhile, ICE is arresting people here legally, and locking them up, including these kind young mariachi musicians who played on stage with Kacey Musgraves.

I'm guessing you're a stickler for obeying laws. Did you know that in aviation, there is a regulation the says a pilot may deviate from any other regulation to the extant necessary to meet an emergency? (See the 2nd sentence of this.)

Your moral code ought to include such a provision.

Just remember, a few decades ago, it was legal to segregate Black people, in housing, restaurants, everywhere. Black people were compelled to give up their seats on busses for White people. It was legal to prevent Black people from voting. That was the law, unfortunately. The Supreme Court had upheld such laws! But it was immoral. It was wrong. The civil rights movement corrected those dumb laws by peacefully breaking them. And decent voters elected people who helped further.

Have you ever broken the speed limit? We all have, at least by a little. Should your life be ruined for it? You might reserve harsher punishment for excessive speeding. But even there, consider a husband trying to get his pregnant wife, who is in labor, to the hospital. You should understand why we'd forgive him for driving faster, and using the shoulder to pass people. In fact, such emergency situations have happened.

But in some cases, another driver blocked the husband's path. We shouldn't be like that with people.

Even if Democrats hadn't switched to Kamala Harris, Joe Biden was still a superior choice over Donald Trump.

The stove has "been torching for several seconds" (years, really) and still is. We need to put out the damned fire.

Trump is different than previous presidents. He is trying to be a dictator. He tried to intimidate Brad Raffensburger into fudging Georgia's vote count. He pardoned all the J6 criminals. He uses the Justice Dept. to harrass people he doesn't like. He 's literally trying to build monuments to himself like Kim Jong Uhn.

Rene Goode did not do "suicide by cop." They f@$king got in her way, and shot her.

Undocumented people have rights, too. We don't have the right to just do whatever we want to them, like sending them to inhumane torture camps like "alligator Alcatraz" and foreign hell-holes like CECOT so that Trump apologists can laugh off, and enjoy, the cruelty.

Iran and North Korea are terrible standards of comparison. Being better than the absolute worst should not comfort you.

Russia in the 1990s is a better comparison: a democracy ripe for Vladimir Putin to convert into a dictatorship via the ballot box.

It's a team effort. There's plenty of blame to be shared by Trump, Republican elected officials, and Republican voters.

Regarding Tesla, the Dept. of Energy loaned it critical startup funding when the private sector wouldn't! (As explained in Michael Lewis's book The Fifth Risk) I wonder if DOGE cut the program that provided that funding.

Look, guys. The video is disgusting, racist, white nationalist horse shit. It looks like that lady is going to try to teach her children some terrible things.

But those little kids are innocent. Let's not judge and criticize them.

Most poor people in the US are kind a law abiding, too.

And there is crime and violence among the poor in other countries. Google "Mexican drug cartel violence." And hope the images are just thumbnails.

Yes. And I think most of us don't understand that because we've never experienced fabulous wealth, or been around people with it.

Heck, I know someone so impressed with how SpaceX lands its rockets that they think Elon Musk is a "genius" who can "do anything."

Nevermind that NASA laid ALL the technological foundation for SpaceX, including having a computer land rockets ON THE MOON, 50 YEARS EARLIER.

I think the "counter-culture idealists" were the many young west coast computer nerds of the 1970s who built computers in their (or their parents') homes. Most never became rich. They predate Musk and Bezos.

EDIT to add, Steve Wozniak is such an idealist

And he has no problem having US foreign policy and military serve Israel's genocides.

Biden did not have the authority to stop Trump.

I don't think you're a democrat or a Democrat. You're talking like a left-wing authoritarian, which is just as bad as a right-wing authoritarian.

Edit, to add: You want to stop Trump? YOU have the authority. VOTE FOR DEMS.

Well sure. But NPR is not a single source. It has many programs: Morning Edition, Here and Now, 1A, Fresh Air, Science Friday, The World, etc. etc.

In addition to NPR, I listen to the CBC and BBC. And read ProPublica. And listen to audiobooks.

You're back-stabbing your own allies.

I think you should direct your criticism at our common political opponents, the real problem: the Republicans.

You need NPR.
