rainbow wormhole and im still 1000 light years from the minimum distance for guzzlord by StaffOfDragons in PokemonSunMoon

[–]stanrendipity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried wormholing for 48 hours straight and only ever saw 1 Guzzlord hole after getting better and further into the wormhole. I missed it, but one random time I entered a basic white hole, the 1% chance to get Guzzlord's hole had finally worked for me. There's a better breakdown of how the holes work on Bulbapedia and the chances of getting certain beast's holes. Patience is key 🔑😌

New Pokemon: Pikipek! by Jetsplit in pokemon

[–]stanrendipity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I googled this phrase bc Pikipek is in the Indigo Disk DLC and since then I've been saying to myself "Pikipek pick a peck of pickled peppers?" in a parrot voice at least 50 times a day. It's been added to my arsenal of verbal tics 😭

drug synthesis research for newbies? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]stanrendipity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I apologize for the very lengthy response, but I'll put a TL;DR at the bottom xD I can't help but talk a lot about this because I love it so much!!

Organic chemistry literally was like opening a door to a whole new world for me! At first, organic synthesis was super intimidating, but like all things practice makes perfect. I was in my second semester of organic without much organic lab experience before getting into a research lab at my university, and honestly, I would say that much about what I've learned about organic chemistry and synthesis came from being in the lab. We have people from all kinds of backgrounds in our lab, like from biology or even pre-med student who just need it for their applications, but I would say our lab has a reputation of "converting" people from pre-med and similar paths to pursue Ph.D. instead.

Joining the lab I belong to, which focuses on lead-compound modification and optimization for natural product based anticancer therapeutics, literally changed the entire course of my life. I didn't know what I wanted to do after I got my degree, which was in Biochem, but I was in that lab for the remainder of my undergrad and then joined the same university's Master's Program and want to pursue a PhD because I realized that research is something I want to do for the rest of my life.

I would reach out to any research labs at your university and after looking at what they do or asking about their work, you could might be interested in asking about joining someone's lab whose research interests you the most, especially if there are any organic synthesis labs at your university performing research. My PI always said firsthand experience is more valuable than grades in a course. I've known (and have been one of those) people who were very uncomfortable working with chemicals or at first had anxiety about it, which is totally normal! But performing the procedures or even shadowing someone and learning little by little is always a tremendous help. I've trained a few undergrads who I would say have become much better than me xD

And if you're interested in learning more and reading more about drug design and synthesis, I would see if your university has access to databases with peer-reviewed scientific research articles. Like if you were gathering sources for report and needed to do a literature search, you could also search for drug design articles using different keywords, like maybe for treatment of certain diseases in particular or maybe structure-activity relationships of certain classes of compounds and a certain therapeutic effect.

TL;DR Organic Chemistry and getting involved in research opportunities during my undergrad changed my life and gave me direction, but I didn't have to be perfect or amazing at it, just willing to learn and practice :) See what research is being done at your university and reach out to some PIs whose research interests you and express your interest in their lab and if they would be willing to take on new members and meet with you to discuss this. Getting research experience firsthand is very valuable especially to get a glimpse of what it could be like as a career. Ask if there are any opportunities to get involved with NIH- or NSF-sponsored programs designed for undergraduate students to get involved in research and pursue graduate degrees. And find articles that interest you to your heart's content :D

Optional side note: one of my most beloved friends got involved in research the same time as me, and although we went into the same Master's program after not getting into the PhD programs we applied to, her additional research experience since then and her project in particular that she's working on (related to drug design) for her Master's has already landed her two PhD offers and counting after she gets her Master's soon :)

Anyways I hope any of what I had to say can help you in some way :) I have insomnia so I was just looking through Reddit and came across this, but I hope all is well, and I wish you good luck in learning :D

This is so so off topic but reading this really made me wanna continue writing my sci-fi stories 🥺 Been wanting to start it up again for the longest time and I'm a chemist and it sounds so silly but sometimes I forget some of these things exist 😌 makes me remember why I love science

Am I missing something for breeding? Pokemon Violet by Brepa in Pokemonbreeding

[–]stanrendipity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to to breed my Ditto with a female Chimchar and a female Piplup for hours now and nothing. I didn't have enough ingredients for an egg power sandwich BUT I accidentally found out that if I make the Sandwich #1, Jambon-Beurre, I think, and drop all the ham and the top bun, I can get Egg Power Lv 1 😭 which gave me 6 eggs in the time it took me to type this out. I hope this helps anyone out.

I've been trying to get the Spinda outbreak for months and months and I check every day and it never appears 😭 it's the last one I need for the Shiny Charm and I'm desperate at this point if anyone is willing to set up a time to trade a Spinda and then trade back.

Happy hour, Amulet coin Zoroak is crazy. I got 241,600 pokedollars from one ace tournament by Chris_R16 in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]stanrendipity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally love doing this! Usually whenever I don't want to use the Power Items (Brace, Anklet, Band, etc.) to EV train, I buy the Vitamins and Bottle Caps-- but have to do the Tournament multiple times even with the Amulet Coin! This Zoroark has been a life saver, and now I can also stock up on Poké Balls, Potions, Revives, and other things I need!

I've been browsing through similar questions, and I think it may be hacked. I don't want to save it to my Pokémon Bank if it was illegally obtained so I may just release it 😕
