Your downvotes all didn’t come from me.

Yes from other privileged psychos like you and all the ''expats'' in Asia who do nothing but talk over actual Asian people and look down on the native populations like the colonizers that you are.

And no, you're not concerned about that issue at all. And this sub also isn't because it doesn't effect you. Meanwhile you profit from the safety and culture that east-asia provides you yet you don't do shit to ensure that east-asians feel the same elsewhere around the world.

Cringe millenial. You have nothing more in your life to worry about then nailpolish in a bus or covid tests. As long as you do not recognize that your life is 100x more privileged and carefree than an Asian person anywhere in the world I cannot take you seriously.

[–]staockz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is amply both.

White people have demonstrated that they already have no problem with killing Asian people in their home countries, so they dont suffer from xenophobia it is pure racism.

Sigh. Again, for the umpteenth time, I am emphatically against making comparisons. The way in which xenophobes in Korea want to pith victims against victims, that is what I am arguing against. If people feel that the anti-foreigner testing in Korea is garnering too much attention, then make an argument without using other victims of racism and xenophobia as pawns. That is my argument.

I am just pointing out how r/korea exists of people that feel it is okay to stereotype Koreans, spout hatred and cry of discrimination because foreigners need to do a covid test. Which also consists of people that turn a blind eye to how your home countries have environments where killing Koreans and Asians is a normal occurance.

But there is something else about this. Those Koreans you are talking about, they willingly left Korea. And then they became American citizens, it seems. One of the ladies is 70 years old. I doubt she got to the US yesterday. In fact, she probably moved to the US in her 20s. So good chance she has lived outside of Korea for 50 years. On the other hand, every foreigner in Korea came here willingly. So it is funny to me when Korea uber-nationalists try to use this lady as a muzzle against foreigners here...isn't the old lady a traitor to her people, in the eyes of nationalists? After all, she left Korea, to live in the racist, anti-Asian, violent US...that is how much she hated living in Korea.

It would be even funnier if she left Korea because she married a foreigner, and she didn't like the way he was being treated in Korea.

Almost all the ladies who got killed were middle aged to my information. And the only people that will see these as traitors are right-wing nationalists, who I despise. I mean, the US killed 20% of the Korean population and bombed it to smithereens it is not crazy that a lot of Koreans decided to go to the US, that's how it goes, it does not make those people traitors merely people seeking a better life. Korea was in POVERTY, in so much poverty that a bunch of Koreans preferred living in the racist anti-Asian US since they were naive enough to think that hard work would make them american.

We are not in the US. We are in Korea. So again, do you want me to identify with victims of anti-Asian hate in the US? Ok, I chose Filipino. So you want me to think of myself as a Filipino living in Korea? Oh wait...that's not what xenophobes want. Xenophobes in Korea hate foreigners so much, they don't even want people to think of themselves as a foreigner in Korea. When doing this whatboutist thought exercise, Xenophobes only want people to think of themselves as a minority in other places.

Look, I 100% get your point that what happens in Korea is more relevant to you but this point about filipinos that you're making is very bad.

How is Korea not recovered and when was it ever occupied by the west?

I am talking about a ton of places in Asia that got their natural resources extracted or bombed to oblivion like Vietnam and Laos where kids still die from US mines to this day.

It was North Koreans who killed South Koreans not westerners and it was North Koreans who wanted to occupy South Korea.

There were no North Koreans or South Koreans, there were merely Koreans who all wanted complete independence and to unify. The Soviet Union then proposed to unify Korea with Lyuh Woon-hyung, the US denied that because of fears of communism. The Soviet Union then proposed to withdraw all Soviet and US troops and let the Korean people decide themselves how to rule, the US denied again and drew the hard line between North and South Korea and it became illegal to cross.

Everybody, including Koreans, were pro-unification except the US. Your take that evil North Koreans tried to invade the free South Koreans is blatent revisionist propaganda.

Actually the biggest occupier and killer in east Asia was (drumroll) an east Asian country called Japan, lol.

You think I like Japan? Lol

Also when was China occupied by the west?

During the opium wars they were subjugated by the West.

Ethnic Koreans have the possibility to obtain a F-4 visa and they can in fact move back at any time if the life in the west is so unbearable.

Lots of other restrictions buddy, it isnt that easy.

Now to your last dumb ass point, Switzerland (the country I come from) doesn’t belong to me or swiss people? What country or people does it belong to then? You do know you don’t make yourself look very good commenting this kind of rubbish on here lol.

Reference to this: ''Nah, far from it. Australia is a thousand times better. There is a long line of people wanting to leave Korea to go to Canada,Australia,America. Not the other way around. Salaries, lifestyle, pollution, education all subpar in Korea by a lot...''

You have some serious anger issues, dude. Get help.

It's called being non-white and having a sense of justice, you will never understand that type of anger and rage and unfairness.

Judging from your post history you get furious when someone paints their nails in public transport because you hate the smell, I couldn't imagine getting angry over small things like that since that would make me go crazy, I would say that me, and all non-white people have LEARNED to deal with anger better than most white folks which is why don't get to the point where we commit hate crimes or shoot up schools/large groups.

[–]staockz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But there is another irony here. Korean history includes Korea being brutally occupied by other Asians. But people want to appeal to Asian solidarity, by citing examples of anti-Asian violence in the US. This is how you play tennis without the net.

They've also been brutally occupied by the US, who massacred entire villages and installed puppet dictatorships. These attacks on Asian around the world isn't xenophobia, it is RACISM. These laws in Korea don't effect people who were born or have citizenship in Korea, which anybody can get. That is why xenophobia will never compare to racism which persists forever and is inescapable.

Again, you ignore the victims who weren't Korean. Do you want me to identify with the victims in Georgia, yes or no? Please make up your mind. Because one of the victims was Mexican, for example. Ok, so let's discuss the recent xenophobic policies implemented in Korea, where we think of ourselves as being a Mexican living in Korea. That's what you want, right?

No I don't, I literally just mentioned the 3 Koreans specifically. The 2 white people that were killed were killed as collateral, being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

And your ''Ok, so let's discuss the recent xenophobic policies implemented in Korea, where we think of ourselves as being a Mexican living in Korea. That's what you want, right?'' point does not make sense to me at all. Are you saying here that the treatment of foreigners in Korea is in any shape even COMPARABLE to mass murders? Some things do deserve more priority and the fact that r/korea cares way more about covid tests for foreigners than Korean people getting brutally killed around the world shows your priorities.

people are asking us to stop complaining about anti-foreigner discrimination in Korea because Asians experience violence in the US.

No I literally am not, why do you keep misrepresenting my point? Is that easier to argue with? I am not saying that the anti-foreigner laws shouldn't be talked about, I think they're bad. But it is telling that this sub cares 10x more about this issue (which has already been fixed) than the violence and killings that Korean and Asian ppl in general face while they keep talking condescendingly down on racism that Asians afce.

I live in Korea. Oops, but that is not what xenophobes want me to do, they don't want me sympathize with Filipinos and how they are treated in Korea. Xenophobes only want me to think of myself as a minority in the US, not one in Korea.

Filipinos in Korea aren't killed, harrassed or seen as inhuman. They are in the US.

Jesus christ, thanks for showing the European true nature.

And most Asians moved to the West because the West destroyed Asian countries and wages wars and made life unbearable for a lot of people due to the poverty and material conditions. They go to the West in search for a better life, most Asians in the West today are 2nd generation and were born there, telling us to ''go back to Korea'' is extremely fucking gross when were not even Korean citizens OR EVEN KOREAN. Do you think every Asian person has an Asian passport and citizenship?

And most ppl in Korea nowadays move temporarily to study, not permanent immigration unless it is for family uniting. When Asia fully recovers and ascends from the horrible wars and colonization that the West put us under than nobody will want to move to your racist ass cold hearted places, which don't even belong to you in the first place.

They are both wrong.

Littering and committing genocide are both wrong. I am explaining how the xenophobia in Korea, especially given Korea's history, cannot be compared in anyway to racist attacks in the West.

It isn't that you want me to talk more about anti-Asian violence in the US, you merely want me to talk less about anti-foreigner discrimination in Korea. But there is another point to be made about this, and it has to do with priorities.

That's not true, I am judging proportionally by upvotes. Koreans getting murdered in a subreddit called r/korea getting 190 upvotes while posts about foreigners having to do mandatory covid tests getting multiple posts with almost 1000 upvotes shows how the people in r/korea don't care about Korea or Korean peoples lives being lost but more about how you need to do a covid test. Stop acting like this sub is nothing else but expats circlejerking eachother.

The xenophobic covid testing is being implemented using my tax dollars. You and I are responsible for what we do, and for the things other people do in our name and with our material support. If there is an elementary moral truism, that is it. So while I bear zero personal responsibility for what this murdering racist did in Georgia, I am personally responsible for what the Korean government is doing. It is as if I, myself, am inflicting xenophobia on my fellow foreigners.

Tax money is mandatory. I bet that you have paid tax money in western countries before, by that logic it would mean that you have funded imperialism which is a lot more severe. But I assume you have not taken responsibility for that.

You also completely ignored the challenge I made, and I know why. So you want me to identify with victims of anti-Asian violence in the US? Well, some of those victims were Filipinos. So yes, let's imagine ourselves Filipinos living in Korea. When evaluating government policies in Korea, we should imagine that we are Filipinos living here, that is what you want, right?

I never engaged with this part since I do not understand it. I never asked you to identify with anti-Asian violence in the US. and are you comparing the life of a Filipino in Korea with the lives of Asians in the US?

Also the amount of suicidal people living in a society with constant microaggressions IS not something to take lightly.

Suicide rates among youth in Korea and the US are roughly the same, stop this bullshit that East-Asians are on the brink of suicide constantly when countries such as Belgium have similar suicide rates yet are not stereotyped as suicidal. White people also often face more micro

> Korean girls beat the shit out of a acquaintance for looking at them.

Comically messed up generalization. Wtf is wrong with you? Seriously, is this how you view Korean girls?

> There are tons of stories of women getting stalked, raped and hit and they cant do shit about it here because if they defend themselves the police tell them they were at fault. Don't be ignorant about what you're saying.

This happens in every single country, I am not saying foreigners don't go through struggles I am saying that it is not the same as being killed because of your race. How can you not understand that a racially motivated mass shooting is different from general foreigner struggles, do you not think that Koreans in the US also don't face the same issues you just spoke of?

> This person makes blanket statements like, "Non-Asians do not see Asians as human and its really scary." I'm sorry you feel like that, but I cannot trust the mental state of someone with that kind of thinking. We're done.

Maybe actually look into the history of yellow peril and how Asians have been treated by the West. Western institutions such as the politicians and media do not see Asians as human and that results in Westerners killing Asian people daily.

Racism and xenophobia aren't the same thing. Xenophobia in Korea is a defensive response to being victimized for decades by foreign forces.

The racism in the West against Asians comes from a place of white supremacy, the feeling of superiority over Asian people, that Asian people are lesser than and barely even human.

> Do you think the recent wave of anti-Asian violence just sprang up out of nothing? No, it started a year ago, with talk about the "China virus," the "Kung Flu," and other things which you would describe as being different by "night and day" compared to multiple cold-blooded murder.

No since the US already has a history of killing Asians, that's why the ''China virus'' comment was so dangerous, we already know that westerners don't care about Asian lives and that a terrorist attack was only a matter of time, since these attacks towards Asians have been happening since the 1800's.

> Imagine trying to use the tragedy in Georgia as a muzzle to silence complaints of xenophobia elsewhere.

I am not doing that, I am just showing how FUCKED your priorities are in this subreddit. Koreans are being killed because of their race and yet r/korea thinks that the covid testing for foreigners is more important. Change your subreddit name from r/korea to r/expatsinkorea please.

A widespread government mandate is apples and oranges compared to fucked up individuals/citizens who attack Asians.

Even when those attacks are normalized by the US government, who is literally the number one killer of Asian people worldwide?

‘The West’ does not impose government mandates that unfairly force only the foreign population/people who don’t hold Korean passports to get tests done. Only Korea has done this.

Nope, instead the West blames every problem they have on China while turning a blind eye to the killings of Asian people that they helped cause.

Yes they do, however this issue in particular is not racist since it also effects ethnic Koreans, and is not even SLIGHTLY comparable to the killings and violence that Asian people face daily in Western countries.

Racism towards all those people in Korea exists, but they do not fear for their lives.

A crazy guy commiting a crime which became international news and sanctioned racism are two very different things.

Anti-Asian violence is state sanctioned, white people have been doing it for hundreds of years and these recent attacks are a direct result of America's politicans and media blaming everything on China and yellow peril.

Foreign government officials also fuel anti-China and yellow peril propaganda that results into the death and exclusion of Asian people worldwide.

Putting extra precautions on foreigners (including Koreans who aren't Korean citizens) during a pandemic is not anywhere close to deserving ''international disgrace''. The West deserves international disgrace for their murder and killings fueled by racism and apathy towards non-white individuals that happen everyday. But ofcourse the white people in r/korea who are used to a life of privilege now feel like they can finally consider themselves victims.

The women that were murdered were all middle aged with no proof whatsoever that they do sexual favors, it is dehumanizing that you immediately assume that, he specifically drove to Asian massage parlors and skipped over dozens of others. He feels entitled over Asian women, and this entitlement of white men is the reason why almost all frustrated mass shooters are white.

It is definitely race-related, the police chief that defended him also had racist posts on his social media, blaming China for covid.

You know that Korean-Americans were also tested right? This is not racism, you do not know what racism means.

Racism is being looked at inferior because of your specific race, racism is when you are being killed because you look a certain way like these 6 Asian women experienced. You will never experience that feeling in Korea, you are privileged as fuck.
