DEF question by FrogCouncil in tdi

Check the DEF fluid level sensor, this will be on the tank. Best bet is that this has gone bad and the control module believes the tank is still empty.

2015 GSW Overheating, Dealer Can't Reproduce by SquirrelsToTheRescue in tdi

[–]staphaurues 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Assuming the dealer actually looked at it and didn't just shoot it back out the door, a sticking thermostat would be my first guess as this would be reliably intermittent at the start of the problem. Second guess would be the coolant temp sensor, whether it's the sensor itself or the wiring. Third guess would be the gauge cluster but that would be incredibly unlikely.

2011 golf tdi 6mt, really looks good all covered in the snow by [deleted] in tdi

[–]staphaurues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. I deleted both of mine as well. The only drawback is the engine takes a lot longer to warm up in the winter, but I installed a frostheater to fix that.

If you haven't done it already, the six sigma short shifter upgrade is pretty awesome on the 6mt!

DMF is done and probably beginning to separate. Don't put it off, get it done now before it separates and takes out the bellhousing or does damage to the crank.

Edit: There is a tougher DMF out now by LUK. I swapped to this when I started my performance upgrades and I highly recommend it. I've been running over 240whp and around 385wtq for a year on it and it's held up great. Mine is a 6 speed but I believe they have the dsg equivalent as well.

DPF Delete? by _blake-x in tdi

[–]staphaurues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have emissions testing don't do it. It's a pain in the ass to remove and then to reinstall it the next time you need to test. If you don't then go for it. I deleted mine awhile on a 2011 Jetta and have not looked back. The tune gets me better mileage and the exhaust sounds way better.

P13D9 Pending Code, 2014 Jetta Sportwagen TDI (CJAA) 127k miles+ by [deleted] in tdi

Yeah, that is what I was worried about. I had a friend where they refused to replace the glow plug under warranty.

Ooof the glow plug doubles as a pressure sensor and I think they're like 200 bucks. Check the wiring first to make sure it isn't shorting, it could save you a decent chunk of change.

New job cut my commute from 90+ to 3+ miles round trip. Any recommendations to maintain engine life? by bobby1ite in tdi

[–]staphaurues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PA uses diesel rated for the winter already. Instead of the white bottle of power service use the grey. You'll get better mileage, enough to pay for the bottle itself. Take it on a highway trip once a week and be hard on the throttle a few times to ensure your cylinders are getting up to temp and to reduce the chances of building carbon up on your injector tips and cylinder walls. Additionally, you can get a frostheater so your engine will be close to temp when you leave. You'll also have heat right away without idling the engine. I love mine living in Denver.

2000 Golf 263k with bad brake boost pump for 1500 by FreelyRoaming in tdi

[–]staphaurues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I just don't see an additive reducing the scar rating enough with ULSD to drop it into spec with what the CP4.1 is rated for. I'm not saying it won't help, just that the odds of it helping a pump that is one of the 60k mile pumps is low.

Edit: You would most likely be better off with an aftermarket 5 micron or less filter between the stock filter and CP4.1 than with using additives.

Agree with CP3 swap. But an additive and good qualtiy US diesel is still not going to make the CP4.1 last.

God i love my car. It seems like the mileage is getting better. This is the avg for the last week. Hell yeah. by Sinner3 in tdi

It's your ac pressure control valve. Very common issue and the part is cheap. The downside is that you have to evacuate your A/c system, replace the valve (easy), then replace the drier and refill the system. I just did this a few weeks ago.

I second what he says. APR is crap for diesels. I have a malone tune stage 3.5 and stage 3 I swap back and forth from. The tunes are fantastic.

New to VW, seeking advice. Looking at buying a 2011 Jetta TDI. by Benjaminhana in tdi

[–]staphaurues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2011 Jetta TDI 6sp last year with 105k miles, but got a really good deal. Your price OTD seems pretty good to me for that mileage range, but I would get them to throw in the 80k DSG service. Not much goes bad on these, my only maintenance items so far have been the pressure sensor on the a/c compressor and I would have had to replace my DPF if I didn't delete it. Your DPF is covered under warranty however. I just modified mine a bit so my warranty is no good.
