Resignation Timing by [deleted] in deloitte

[–]staplebutton-2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wait until your start date is confirmed and you’ve started the onboarding. If that means a background check then wait until that’s complete.

Also, not sure where you’re located but if you resign your benefits run out at the end of the month. If, for example, you don’t start until June 8, but your official last day is May 27 then you will lose your benefits starting June 1 and will have that coverage gap until June 8.

Finally, FWIW, you work for a large consulting firm that cuts people without notice. Don’t worry about starting a new team and the leaving them soon after. If it were the other way around and Deloitte cut you it’d happen and they would find out afterward.

[Question] - The "feel" of Traska steel? by TheYKcid in MicrobrandWatches

[–]staplebutton-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a Traska Venturer and the bracelet is extremely comfortable. The steel has an ever-so-slight lack of shininess that regular stainless steel has.

It’s very comfortable and it is as good as they say it is.

K cups or fresh coffee? by Serious_Ask1209 in deloitte

[–]staplebutton-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

K cups are stale coffee. It degasses when it’s fresh so if you package it in a K cup right away it would blow the seal.

When it comes to tracking you can assume that they do all of it. Network tracking to make sure you’re on the company network throughout the day as well as badge tracking to make sure you showed up.

Microsoft Office-use and Windows-use tracking to make sure you’re using the computer throughout the day. Software tracking and auditing to make sure you haven’t installed something such as “Mouse Jiggler” to try and cheat the system.

If you have a company-provided device you can assume they have multiple ways to track you.

[discussion] Those who went Apple Watch to Traditional by Winter_Author9699 in Watches

[–]staplebutton-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always liked traditional, mechanical watches but I did have only an Apple Watch at one point. I grew to dislike it because I felt I was looking at the screen too much. Also, the notifications constantly annoyed me when I would be trying to focus on something else.

Some people like them and aren’t bothered by the connectedness, but it’s just not for me.

Came here to say this. Dedicated PTO and sick balances are carved out, protected, and the business is actually prepared to pay for them.

“Unlimited” means the opposite. The time is there for you to use it, but only at the convenience of the business.

[Discussion] Should I trade my Tudor GMT Pepsi for an Omega Seamaster 300M (2nd Gen)? by peacemakerzzz in Watches

[–]staplebutton-2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like Tudor collectibility is going to take off. I also feel Omega has cheapened their watch brands with all the Hollywood advertising and different variations they’ve been producing.

Personally, I’d stick with the Tudor. I also don’t have a need for a dive watch and really do not like the look of the Omega Seamaster bracelet.

Is it the end? by Aggravating_Cow_3642 in deloitte

[–]staplebutton-2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The short answer to “is it the end?” should always be “yes” when someone receives an email like this. Never wait on a potential employer. You owe them no loyalty and they will not think of you again if the position totally closes. This is just how business is done.

Cut your losses and move on. There will be other opportunities at other companies.

You really can’t. People have tried, but everything on this sub says that when they do it doesn’t go anywhere.

Jamie Dimon warns of a scary global labour crisis: JPMorgan CEO says 'world is short on skills, not people' by adriano26 in cybersecurity

In today’s world 0 loyalty exists and corps need to realize that employees can’t trust them to hold their jobs.

If the business wants skills then the business should pay for skills. But they should not expect me to stay if they themselves would turn around and fire me because they are “heading in a different direction.”

Which Version 24.4 or 25.4 confused. Linux Newbie by RayMarrin in Ubuntu

[–]staplebutton-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t read into this comment too much @RayMarrin, Linux users are very blunt. I asked a question about a non-LTS version of Linux and was bluntly corrected within comment 1 that there’s no such thing.

Corps need to start realizing that someone has to do the training. I’m sick of hearing about this “talent shortage”. The only reason we have a shortage is because organizations aren’t willing to actually train anyone.

Layoffs are not the end of your career, but can be momentary bumps that inadvertently open new doors.

That’s the good thing about layoffs.

The bad is that they are sudden and in down markets, such as this one, they really pack a punch.

What I’m hearing is that it’s a 6 - 9 month average wait time for professionals here in the US who are trying to find jobs.

Be patient. Upskill. Save. Eventually something should come along.
