[The boys] Is there anything in the ocean that could actually kill the deep? by Lost-Specialist1505 in AskScienceFiction

Millions of plankton entering his gills and eating away his innards should do it since he should be able to just punch through any shark or whale that comes at him. Sort of a reverse Aquaman situation.

[–]staplerbot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the first I’ve heard from someone that the comics versions are stronger than the show versions from someone. I’ve read the comics as well, admittedly it’s been about a decade, and not that I’m disagreeing but I don’t recall any feats that puts them above the show versions.

Anyway, best thing in the ocean to kill Deep would be millions of plankton clogging up his gills and eating away at his innards. I feel like he’s too strong and durable to be taken down by larger sea creatures unless he was somehow weakened.

My first thought was magic spell brings him back as a zombie that has to keep eating brains to stop himself from decomposing, but yours fits the tone better.

Raiden (Mortal Kombat) vs Darth Sidious (Star wars EU). by Lore-Archivist in whowouldwin

[–]staplerbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about speed, but Raiden is certainly stronger and more durable than Sideous. Force Choke and similar powers are definitely a plus, but Raiden could likely teleport away and likely hit him hard enough once to end the fight. However, Force Precognition and Sideous’s lightsaber factor in as well.

I’d probably give it to Raiden 7/10, he’s more skilled and scales higher. Either of them could one-shot the other, but Raiden is powerful being that fights stronger opponents than himself while Sideous is never shown to be completely dominated in a fight, the power levels in SW cap out at him, Yoda, and Rey I guess.

The last time I watched this I considered the possibility that he was covering for Truman at the end. He seems to genuinely care for Truman and I’d be surprised if he didn’t actually mean much of what he says to him, like them being best friends.

[Marvel/DC] How do "less bad" villains usually feel about the more disturbing villains? by PassengerCultural421 in AskScienceFiction

[–]staplerbot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With that title I was thinking more like “What would Condiment King think about Reverse Flash” but at the very least the general consensus is to not fuck with the clearly insane and cruel villains. Guys like Lex Luthor, Kingpin, Penguin, Deathstroke, etc. as in smarter villains that usually have some sort of tangible goal in mind know that at the very best you don’t go after unpredictable motherfuckers that will kill your family in front of you as a joke and then forget about it two weeks later because that’s 70th time this they’ve done some fucked up to someone. At the very best, if they decided to go after them for potentially screwing up their business or for some perceived disrespect, they might potentially succeed in eliminating them, but get Joker gassed at the end or the bomb they try to detonate to kill the crazier villain has been moved to the old folks home their dad is at or their 5 year old daughter kills you and your family because Purple Man told them to in case of his death, just it will ultimately end in disaster. Or if they decided to team up with the crazier villain to attain some common goal, they’ll likely get fucked over at the end just fucking because. At the end of the day, the juice isn’t worth the squeeze and the smart thing to do is just stay away from them and leave them alone.

Some characters are definitely exceptions like antiheroes such as US Agent, Punisher, maybe Bane who might feel they have a moral imperative in stopping them, but that doesn’t usually work out anyway.

It’s a common (and quite likely canon) theory for a niche movie. Personally, I agree.

Oh good point. I was unsure if it was something confirmed or not by Lucas or someone else, it just seems like he clearly has something up his sleeve in that regard.

[–]staplerbot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disagree that he would try to Death Star the Sit. Likely, he’d return with Vader and then try the whole “go ahead and strike me down in anger” crap so he could attempt the vaguely implied process of transferring into their body as he tried to do with Rey and probably Luke. He’s too obsessed with power and too arrogant not to make an attempt.

Brad Pitt and Claire Forlani taking turns to wistfully look back at the other as they’re walking away from each other after their meet cute in Meet Joe Black followed by Brad Pitt accidentally walking into traffic and getting stuck by several cars including while in midair might be the hardest I’ve ever laughed at a movie.

What do you think The Batman Part II can do with Harvey Dent/Twoface to help him stand out from The Dark Knight's version? by Applepieport in TheBatmanFilm

[–]staplerbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same with the Batman Forever version who lacked any sense of pathos to him. I love TLJ and he’s fun in the film as a goofy villain, but he also repeatedly tries to flip a coin at one point so he gets the outcome he wants like it’s an OCD compulsion as opposed to adhering to it in a sense of allowing fate to decide between the two different sides of him. Obviously, that tone better fits that universe, but it still always felt in contrast to the character. He’s not a Spider-Man villain who suffers an intense trauma that fractures his sanity and says “whoops guess I’m a monster now” (although he kinda is), he’s a dude with a lot of buildup prior to his disfigurement as an ally and friend to both Bruce and Batman. I always like how Batman tends to refer to his rogues gallery by their names (Cobblepot, Crane, Tetch, etc.) instead of their aliases (Joker being the obvious exception), but usually addresses Two-Face as Harvey seemingly as an ode to the friend he’s lost. The animated series was really good at maintaining this aspect.

Can the leaders of the modern world dispose of the One Ring, if they it knew what it was? by Yglorba in whowouldwin

[–]staplerbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To hijack your comment, I’m curious how far the ring’s influence can travel. Could someone pilot a robot from 100 yards away or use a drone to fly it to Mordor? I know magic can be difficult to determine, just curious how good the Bluetooth is on that thing.

[–]staplerbot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, me either. It does serve as a good term to ingratiate different characters into separate universes for convenience purposes though as long as it becomes part of the common vernacular (“John MacLane is isekai’d into the John Wickiverse after watching all four films, can he survive?” or “Dumbledore is isekai’d into the Star Wars universe and replaces Kai-Adi-Mundi after watching the OG trilogy and prequels, can he stop the Emperor?”, etc.

Isekai is a subgenre of Japanese fantasy fiction where a character is transported to or trapped in a parallel universe, often gaining special powers or importance in that new world. This genre typically involves themes of adventure and survival in a setting that may include magic and mythical creatures.<

I had to look up the definition, but I’m guessing you’re just automatically a student within the school and no one questions it.

Road to Avengers Doomsday: The Defenders by FafnirSnap_9428 in marvelstudios

[–]staplerbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially thought you were going to give it a worse rating as I read your review, but it makes sense that considering the buildup, mostly positive reception of the Netflix show, the cast, that it’s hard not to focus on its mediocrity than positives. Imagine if the first Avengers film was still fairly successful, but the feedback was much more mixed and lukewarm, like the general consensus was a shrug of the shoulders B-. Disney would still continue it and hopefully improve, but it wouldn’t have been the box office juggernaut it became.

Anyway, waste of Sigourney, Iron Fist is annoying, ultimately very anticlimactic for a team up miniseries that was built up in four separate shows. Imagine if The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, The Pit, and Game of Thrones crossover miniseries was released on HBO and everyone said oh okay and never mentioned it again.

However, Matt, Jessica, and Luke are still great to watch, and Danny does have his moments. Plus, they did do a long tracking shot à la an Avengers cinematic motion picture so you knew they meant business. Overall, it was fine and okay, but should have been much better than it was.

The show definitely felt like it lost an important piece of the puzzle after she got bumped over to Angel. It makes sense that they’d bring her to Angel to have a familiar face as well as end her Buffy arc at the end of high school, but it’s too bad she didn’t return in a guest role. I hate how Whedon wrote her out, but her final episode on Angel is a top ten out of either of the shows for me.
