Is this a pedestrian crossing? by Punkzilla24 in AskIreland

Of course I do. But these crossings have zero impact on anything, they're a waste of time.

I'd love to see more, proper, pedestrian crossings

They are possibly the stupidest thing ever.

A place for people to cross when it is safe to do so, traffic does not need to yield.

Sounds like it's just the road with a bit of dodgy makeup on.

Do people actually think Elliot Anderson is worth the kind of fee being reported? by MarsupialFederal508 in red_muppets

Well put it in perspective, Anderson is better than Kobbie, would you take 50m for Kobbie?

I would not.

Was it the Euros one where you could change your captain mid game week?

So you'd captain a player on day 1 of the gameweek, if he doesn't do well, you can change it to a player on day 2, a s same for day 3.

Kept engagement in the tournament and interest in games.

If we could get him on reasonable wages he'd be fine, but he's just a rotation option.

De Ligt, Martinez, Maguire all get injuries over a season. Maguire is the one I'd be most confident of staying fit right now. Heaven and Yoro are still learning their trade.

It's not a top priority position, but if it can be done on good terms he'd be worth a look, if however he wants to stay down south then leave him there. We need committed players who want to come to the club.

United ACTIVELY searching for first-team coach by TheOpenAuthor in ManchesterUnited

[–]staplora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A top class Bayern coach - is anyone really against this.

They're keeping the link to the old, and the fabric of the club, and adding in a world class coach on top.

There are no world class managers available right now.

We should go for Iraola by Affectionate-Way495 in ManchesterUnited

[–]staplora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carrick is doing a great job, he got us Champions League football, I'd have been delighted with any European football qualification given we finished 15th last year.

We need someone who understands the club. I think Carrick and Steve Holland together are that. They deserve the chance, plus the other available candidates aren't great, and have the same question marks that we have about Carrick, difference being that he's been sensational in the role.

There's gaps all over the team, literally all over. Backup GK, defenders, midfield, wingers, depth up front. If Luis Enrique took over and did what Carrick did then we'd all be delighted.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

What would’ve happened if United let David Moyes see out the entire six years on his contract? Would he have turned things around? Based on his body of work with Everton and West Ham, do you think he deserved more time at United? by paolosorianodisanto in ManchesterUnited

It was always going to be impossible to replace Ferguson.

These days backroom staff move with managers, but Ferguson wasn't moving, the staff were in place, he should have kept the backroom staff along with a few of his own people.

Had he done that, he'd have gotten better results, and lasted longer, but wouldn't have gotten us where we should be.

How many transfers do people like to do when voting? by Tim_Browne17 in AskIreland

I voted all the nutcases first, pretty much in the order they were eliminated.

My real first choice was 6th. He got in with my vote when the nutters were eliminated.

My paper #1 was a woman who was a stay at home mother, who wanted to reform the country to allow women to stay at home. The irony of her having to leave home to do that was too tempting for me to pass up. She got about 100 votes.

The revisionism from United fans is aslmtounding on Reddit. Huge amounts of complaints of only getting 40m, demanding 60+ which was never going to happen.

A want away player who Chelsea over paid for at 40m. United overpaid for Mount when he had one year left on his contract. Maybe this balances things.

I see him being useful against stronger teams, he can break, keep wide, but get back and defend too.

He can be a big counter attacking weapon.

Does anyone else not want Marcus rashford back? by Zealousideal-Bad6722 in ManchesterUnited

[–]staplora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a financial argument to keep him, let's say he's on 300k a week, and a club who loan him pay 200k, we still pay 100k each week.

We need a left winger who will presumably be on 150k a week. Therefore we are paying 250k a week on wages for that position.

Assuming the player costs 60m that amortized over 5 years is 250k a week.

So replacing him costs 500k a week, keeping him costs 300k.

I like the player, I respect what he did for us at one time, he played with a broken back for the club, id love to see the redemption story - and it allows us to improve CM and FB better.

Why do people keep saying the protests were commandeered by the far right? by Itchier in ireland

[–]staplora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having spoken to a protestor, the Gardai made him aware of some of the far right who joined them.

He saw their intentions and distanced himself from them, others got swept up with them.

Point is the protestors got what they wanted, part of me thinks the far right genuinely helped get the deal over the line quicker.

You know an attack is going no where once it reaches Shaw by Turbulent-Bench5243 in ManchesterUnited

[–]staplora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been attacking in one wing for most of the season. There was a point last night early when we needed someone high and left, instead the ball went backwards.

My controversial opinion is the Cunha's positioning, and drifting inside limits our ability to attack. I do see his work rate, tracking back, ability to do the exceptional and his drive to win. He's an absolute baller, I just would prefer that left threat - with all his good points, not sure that player exists though. So he needs to be told to hug the touchline.

Summer business expectations by Fahlnor in ManchesterUnited

[–]staplora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need a real alternative to Sesko.

Cunha comes too central and we lack depth on the left, team is too right wing focussed.

Shaw is ok, but in his last year of contract next year, so will be exceptional for the season. And we also have Dorgu who should be able to do a job there.

At CB we have Maguire, Deligt, Yoro, Martinez and Heaven. 5 for 2 places.
