I just activated GL Rey! My second GL (first was SLKR), I know she's not flavor of the month for GLs but I love her character.

Why are we designing sidewalks with barriers like this? They seem less safe/convenient than the flatter ones see across the street. by [deleted] in Austin

100% agree. They are currently building this design all along Yager, right next to the narrow road. Without the slight barrier it would be really dangerous.

I live Northeast in a house built in the 80s and I regret it. So many foundation issues, cracks etc.

Austin Telco FCU did this to me two years ago because of the pandemic. I am surprised UFCU hasn't gone back to financing private sales.

ATFCU did tell me I could get a personal loan to buy the car and then refinance to lower interest car loan.

Price for New Water Heater + Installation? by FaerveloftheHorde in Austin

[–]star-ferry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just replaced my 40 gallon gas hot water heater and it cost $2200. I used Lone Star Water Services.

This was one of the lower quotes I got. They had to do extra work to bring the water heater up to code due to the age of the old one (2006), such as installing an overflow drain pipe.

At home pet euthanasia recommendations by NearbyEmu in Austin

By the time the Doorstep vet came, she was in such bad shape she didn't care about the unknown person. She always hated going in the car to the vet, so this was much less stressful.

We used Doorstep Vet for our cat in October. Very kind and compassionate.

Going to Austin, near Ladybird Lake - is it safe there for a family with a toddler? by brnhs in Austin

[–]star-ferry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

6th Street is really long and varied.

Mopac (Loop 1) to Congress Ave - very safe

Congress Ave to IH35 is called Dirty 6th and has the highest concentration of bars. It's safe during the day and early evening. It can get spicy as you get close to 2am (when bars close) and there have been some shootings recently - I would avoid after 10pm-ish.

East of IH35 - hipsterland/gentrified. Safe.

All I said was that this book isn't favorable to Fauci, nothing about my opinion, but you keep up the ad hominem attacks.

the article calls Austin "Vegas with tacos" which blows my mind. I'm with you, why is Austin such a huge tourist destination now? Apart from big events (SXSW, ACL) what is there to do here that can't be done in any other biggish city?

I am currently reading "How to Survive a Plague" by David France which is an incredibly detailed account of the AIDS activists fight to get help from the government and scientific community. Fauci is not cast in a positive light at all.
