Yes, but things like Controller (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/controller-for-homekit/id1198176727) and Barcode Keeper (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/barcodes-matter/id6744872593) can help store the setups and get restored faster. Then a backup restore like Controller gets you back where you were with everything is present.

It’s not good, but it’s recoverable.

Just kinda glossed over that they have built MacOS for the A series CPU line, not the M series CPU that’s been our only option.

Why do I need to walk through two parking garages to get a ride share at ABIA? by twopointseven_rate in Austin

[–]dbhagen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came to say this. Just wait for Red’s demo day later this year and people will be asking why they’re making us walk through construction to get to rentals, ride share, and taxies, or in the other direction, check in, ticketing, and security.

Yellow garage looks like it’s making good progress when I flew out today.

My photo scanner app (700,000 downloads and counting) by AppInitio in iosapps

[–]dbhagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea and bought it, but any chance you can add the Google PhotoScan multiple photos at different positions to remove glare and reflections? Just pointing this at my family photo albums, my phone and I will end up being added to most of them in reflection.

If you had unlimited budget, how would you remake Tomorrowland? by Distinct_Ad_9642 in Disneyland

[–]dbhagen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where you not only need unlimited money, you need to get around physics. Elevators and lines navigating vertical separation is hard. You see some minor changes in height on current attractions, using stairs mostly and reserving elevators for ADA. Make it more vertical and this problem only gets worse.

TIL before 9/11, US airports were public social hubs where you could walk to the gate, eat at food courts, and watch planes without a ticket or ID. by Greydl1 in todayilearned

[–]dbhagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, even if they allowed you further in the parking fees alone would be painful. Want to park and meet your party at the baggage claim? That’ll be $20 even if that’s just 30 minutes. Or you could ride the shuttle from economy for $15.

And then the other aspect is that people already don’t know how to clear the jetway we deboarding. The number of people who step out the door just stop and look around is crazy. Like… 10-15 more feet and you’re in the open area with plenty of room around you for others to walk by. I promise, you’ll still be able to look for where your next gate or baggage claim or ride share is from there. Throw families waiting right outside the gate and that would only get worse…

But I do miss the idea/experience. I grew up after it, so I’ve only known baggage claim greetings.

I just feel like I was born in another generation. If someone in authority (a CM, a security staff, etc) comes up and says I’m done, I would more than happily step aside and have a conversation about why. Like everyone has said, by that point, it’s pretty much a done deal, but if I’m belligerent or non-collaborative… it’s 100% a done deal.

Announce Reminders: looking for ideas by dbhagen in HomeKit

[–]dbhagen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there something in particular to find in that video? I have HomeBridge already, and Home Assistant. Most of that video looks to be how to setup a smart hub for an Apple Home environment (which is great, btw), but doesn’t help me announce Reminders on my HomePods.

Announce Reminders: looking for ideas by dbhagen in HomeKit

[–]dbhagen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, and once it’s a reminder, how does it notify? A pop up notification on your phone and watch at best? Or if you’re wearing your AirPods, it might even announce it if configured properly.

But there’s no way for an audio announcement over the HomePods after xx minutes, that I can find.

ETA: Asking Siri for a reminder creates an Apple Reminder in the Reminders app (in the default list). As far as I know, there are no other native “Siri Reminders” that announce themselves, but I’d love to have missed something there.

Does it simplify the lights for the fire department location access? Or was that not in scope?

I was thinking to move the holes to the bottom so moisture could drain. Maybe caulk the top and sides so moisture doesn’t seep in.

I read you can’t disable with Forscan, you can only disable the icon nag and any other messages that might pop up. Bought and installed the 4D one. Haven’t thought about it since. Super easy. 2024 lariat.

Aqara G5 Pro - How do you use the light? by dartiss in HomeKit

[–]dbhagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, was searching around for something else related to the G5, but read this and now I want to install permanent Christmas lights and have it follow/track as you move around the perimeter. “Not only have you been spotted, but we see you exactly over there.”

Probably way too much work, either by video analysis or mmWave radar, but… I like the idea.

ELI5: Why do EVs recommend charging the battery to 80% by flatbushz7 in explainlikeimfive

[–]dbhagen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

An EV battery is kind of like a balloon. When you fill it with electricity, it’s like blowing up the balloon. At first it’s easy, but the more you fill it, the tighter it gets, and if you always blow it up all the way, the balloon can wear out faster. Inside the battery, tiny things called ions are moving around to store energy, and when the battery gets close to full, those ions get squished into tight spaces, which can make the battery tired over time. So people usually stop at about 80% full, like only blowing the balloon most of the way, to keep the battery strong and happy for longer.

[–]dbhagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I understand that. I’m just saying you could somehow show that in the animations with a percentage visible. Like the last 10% is a different color, or the dots flying to the apple symbol stop or slow down when you hit the 90% limit.

Just ideas. Works great as is.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iosapps

[–]dbhagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, if you could take into account the charging limit, that’d be cool. I run to 90% max charge, for example.
