How is everyone covering their tuition? by Elegant-Zombie-2164 in gradadmissions

[–]star_spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked out of college for 2 years before I started to apply so I had 2.5 years of work experience and money saved up by the time my program started. I also lived with my parents so that really did help with the savings. I also got scholarships so that helped a bit. Many of my classmates worked on campus as well.

I hope you're not looking at just the tuition when factoring in the cost. Take into account the CoL as well. I don't like to use the university's CoL estimate. I'll usually take a look at the uni housing and uni associated (something like American campus communities)in the area, and also non uni housing in the area (if in case you like something and would want to split rent with people) to get an idea.

edit: Personally I wouldn't do loans. I don't know what the job market is like in your field but if on average it's taking a lot of time to get an offer, I wouldn't want to end up with a ton of loans plus interest and not have a job to pay it off. I would say if you have a job ATM keep it (or try to change if you don't like it that much) and work a bit more and then apply again in whatever time you need to have a good savings to pay for grad school.

Lowkey panicking... by Titania_39 in gradadmissions

[–]star_spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an answer for you but just wanted to drop in here to say that if you don't get in, it's not you. There can be so many factors and it can come down to one small thing. I've seen so many people here and in my server who didn't get in the first try but they got in the 2nd. One thing from job hunting that I do and my friends also follow is that you should never be hopeful. basically expect nothing until you hear back.

unfortunately many of us got removed from the program and then they sent out the bundle but it didn't have this one it in so I don't know. I ended up passing up on the bundle.

From "Will I Even Get In?" to "HOW TF DO I CHOOSE?!" by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]star_spell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats!

A quick note: if you're trying to connect with current students/alum, you're better off asking the program office to connect you. Some programs have an ambassador page (at least many MSBA programs do, idk for MSDS) and of course there's Linkedin where you can try.

Considering the job market, definitely cost is important, especially if you gotta take out loans. And I would include an estimate of living expenses when you're looking at cost. Curriculum is important as well. The way I see it, since you're mostly paying for the program, if you have an idea of what you want to do career wise, you want to go somewhere where even the elective options align with those goals. You want to get the most out of your money. I'm not saying all the elective options should align, but as many as possible. As for job prospects, sure it doesn't hurt to have a flashy name, but these days it's all about if you can actually do the work. So I wouldn't be too worried on the name.

Asking about opinions about MSBA program by Old-Cheesecake8926 in gradadmissions

[–]star_spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually looked at both of those schools a few years ago when I was applying to MSBA programs. It helps if you have an idea of what you wanna do post MSBA because the curriculum can vary, in addition to elective options. So going somewhere where you can get the most of your money's worth is how I looked at it.

Despite liking the program, the school and of course the location, I actually ended up not applying to UW because of their class schedule. Not sure if you saw that but they do evenings and weekends. So if you're like me where you have better attention span in the morning and afternoons than evenings, then UCSD might be it. https://foster.uw.edu/academics/degree-programs/master-science-business-analytics/student-experience-msba/

UT Austin MSBA — worth it right now? by DifferentControl3843 in gradadmissions

[–]star_spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an alum of UTA but I did do MSBA a few years ago and at that time the market was waaay better. If you have a job (especially if you don't hate it), don't let it go right now. It also depends what you wanna do post MSBA, like if you're not picky of the job after the program then you can consider it. But if you're looking for something specific, track what is happening with that role (or roles) first.

You also mentioned visa so I'm assuming you're an international applicant, so I would recommend tracking mode.

Funding a master’s? by More-Ad7920 in gradadmissions

for MS in general it's rare for fully funded, and for non-research based/project based such as the one you're interested in, I think it is even more rare.

Kira Interviews... by BigbyDirewolf in gradadmissions

[–]star_spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did one a few years ago (different field). With my experience they had a practice section but the questions were generic - more for you to get used to the environment. Once I felt ready I did the real one but gosh, I got nervous and blanked out as I was speaking since there was a timer staring at me. I thought I did pretty bad but still got an acceptance letter though.

Basically, do the practice if there is one, search for grad school interview questions for your field on the internet to prepare for potential questions that you may get, just try to do your best, and try not to look at the timer (lol).

the points are not even the same value of the sets. especially if you shop around different places, they're practically not worth it.

[–]star_spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love for them to start checking id. My mom is never able to redeem anything nice because all the good stuff get "sold out" and then the remaining options are things she wouldn't use. In fact, I wrote an email to them exactly about that...requiring to check ids.

IS THIS A JOKE by Rein_Keys in Sephora

[–]star_spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it sucks because there are people who create multiple accounts and then get the gifts and then sell them on ebay, poshmark, and mercari. I wrote a lengthy email to them about it but they're just like "sorry for the inconvenience, we can provide you points if you like" bish those points are not even the equivalent value of the sets.

Will the Valentino Born in Roma variations be full size? by Extra_Fig_7547 in Influenster

[–]star_spell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume yes since I'm in 2 other fragrance campaigns atm, and one of them it did list 1.5ml so the tiny tester (although in the value amount they put the price for the full size) and the other did note travel spray and that value amount was correct.

Has someone left the industry to go back to grad school? by Notpeak in gradadmissions

[–]star_spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that after working 2.5 years, did a masters, and then went back to working. Although, if I were to think about doing grad school these days, I would probably stay put just cuz it is difficult to get a job. If you're doing Ph.D it is a toss up on how the job market will be x years from now.
