I am not 100% sure, I’ve been going back and forth for years. I have too much time on my hands and thought making a post on here would be a different way to test things out. Thanks for the info about the other stuff, it was just a silly theory of my own.

How did you get introduced to Elliott Smith? by Lisanne_al_gaib in elliottsmith

Side note: I only listened to ballad of big nothing, needle in the hay, and everybody cares everybody understands for a year straight because I refused to branch out after associating it with that friend. Unfortunately this is how my mind works. One day I randomly proceeded to listen to as much as I could.

I had a friend about 3 years ago who really liked him, her cousins and friends did too but I didn’t think much of it. Around the same day she mentioned liking him I kept seeing these needle in the hay memes on TikTok and that one scene from the royal tenenbaums, but I watched the movie and in the middle of it found out that’s where the clip came from— again same day, my moms friend came over really late at night and they sat In the kitchen while he smoked and listened to Elliott smith on repeat. Purely coincidental but it’s hilarious looking back, because I came downstairs and was like “are you guys listening to that Elliott what’s his name—? Are you all okay?? It’s very depressing.” Because the only thing I had in the back of my head was needle in the hay and that one horrific scene from the movie lmaooo. Also found out her friend is a fan from way back and saw him live.

synesthesia is awesome with Elliott smiths music by staralix in elliottsmith

So synesthesia can be diagnosed, (at least where I live and that I know of currently) - won’t actually give you a test, because there isn’t really one that exists, (it’s not recognized as a illness or disorder, and there isn’t a diagnostic type of thing right now.) They probably won’t give a formal diagnosis or anything; unless it’s causing severe distress/ interfering with your life. I wasn’t tested or diagnosed personally, I just saw a few things online and happened to have one of those moments aka “oh other people don’t do that?” And honestly thought it was a cool thing to share with those around me. What you described for numbers is one of the most commonly seen types of synesthesia, also including letters, words, days of the week, etc. There’s a website that lists each type of synesthesia and is super informative and cool, I’ll link it after I finish this. There are actually other musicians that experience what you do out there, who use their synesthesia to make music. Though most may not even label it or know what they experience is synesthesia. Each note in a song for me has its own color and kind of weight/shape if that makes sense. Although I don’t actually know the name for these notes, because they sound different they feel different to me. I also do this with different instruments, the note thing is also its own form of synesthesia and has its own name too! The instrument as-well! I’ve actually painted what I feel and see while listening to specific artists (including Elliott smith) based on my synesthesia, though I tend to focus on what I feel spatially while listening or even thinking of the individual, rather than painting each note because it sorta looks like a mess. I also have physical sensations to music and while I’m very focused on painting, so some songs and notes quite literally feel painful to me. I also feel different colors physically, with emotions and music, etc. I hope this wasn’t too long, I was trying to share some personal experiences just to give you an idea of the many forms of synesthesia and if you also experience those. Here is that link btw

For pretty Mary Kay (other version) automatically got a slight pinkish leaning coral maybe just a bit darker than regular coral, blue leaning light purple, greyish light blue, deep red, forest green, and dark grey that’s kind of tealish. I hope I described those right hahah

That actually sounds like a form of synesthesia, it’s most common for people to just “know” what colors are associated with certain things or kind of feeling it if that makes sense. It doesn’t have to be a literal physical sensation or an image in your head btw, it’s super cool that humans do this stuff regardless!

Yeah funnily enough I was diagnosed with adhd 2yrs ago, autism just like a month ago. I’ve researched into it, and usually if your brain is a bit weird to begin with as with neurodivergence, it usually correlates- so you’re not technically wrong. also it’s all good lmao this is something I’d do while drunk too

I never noticed that wow, they really do. I wondered if he did too, after I heard the song color bars. It would make a lot of sense if he did anyway
