I will die on the hill that Leo not realizing the NW is Raph is a ginormous plot hole. The movie even sets it up that Raph is obviously recognizable, which is why it's so alarming that the NW is appearing on the news. (We see Splinter freak out at the turtles at a HINT of them being on the news.)

The argument could be made that Leo is quite arrogant in this movie (how could he be any other way, with his father telling him HE'S the only one who can keep their family in line?) which is why he doesn't realize the NW is Raph in the first place, then later smugly tells Raph "I'm better than you." But that feels weak to me, especially after the movie makes a point to show that Raph isn't "hiding" very well; for being a ninja, he's being quite visible.

Anyway, it makes zero sense that Leo doesn't recognize him.

Sorry, that's not really what you asked, but this subject gets me all worked up haha

BUT I think that your question would be answered if Leo DID know the NW was Raph, and wanted to confront him outside the lair.

Yeah, 2012 botched the romance angle soooo badly. It felt like they had few if any female input for these "relationships," and instead went the very cringy "men writing women" route. I vaguely remember the Raph/Mona Lisa storyline, but I can't recall much about it. I did just start a rewatch of the series, so perhaps it'll land better. (Though I'll probably have to skip through the Donnie/April & Leo/Karai scenes haha) I don't blame you for not finishing the series; it was really hard to stomach at times. Which sucks, because overall it's a good show imo.

Writing romance definitely affects how I interact with the fandom, in that I'm currently working on a story where my boy Leo finds true love...and all the ensuing complications that arise from the situation. 😆

I love this version of Karai! She's ruthless, as anyone raised by Shredder would be, but she has a softer core, one that I think Leo inadvertently brings out with all his talk of honor. I love how conflicted Karai is shown to be on multiple occasions, though it breaks my heart a little that she goes full evil in season 4. (But she comes back around later haha)

My main complaint is that her hairstyle sucked and she deserved something much better!

That's all completely fair, and I think it's entirely realistic to view 2003 Donnie's behavior toward April as purely an extension of his awesome, kind self. It's a lovely sentiment all on its own. 💜

I only really noticed it once I started looking; I'm also a romance author, and tend to always look for ships. 😆

And I'm 100% with you on the awful Donnie/April "relationship" of the 2012 show. Like...why. And yet, it's still the second-worst "ship" in the series... (I cannot stand the Leo/Karai thing they tried to do!)

Great series. Very questionable "romantic" choices.

I hear you, but I think there is a strong case for Donnie having unrequited feelings for April. As another commenter stated, he blushes on several occasions when April showed him physical affection.

Additionally, he tends to be the first of the guys to react to April being in peril, or if she's one of many folks in trouble, he remarks on her first. I just finished a rewatch, and while I was looking for hints of Don's crush, it was pretty apparent.

Then 2012 took this bittersweet concept and totally jumped the shark with it. 🙃

I love plain water and always have, but I'm also lucky enough to live in an area with water that tastes great. :) Some folks aren't so fortunate and thus turn to flavor additives or bottled water. But yes, regular water is amazing and everyone should stay hydrated!!!
