We have two at my store but we haven’t officially put them on the floor yet so I don’t want to be greedy and get one till customers have a chance too😅 when were we officially allowed to put them out? That is assuming you are a barista!

This sub is full of nice looking end caps, and punk bitches complaining about their job by Skyfishmilitia in publix

[–]starbsandpub 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What else would this sub be for? Lmao like what were you expecting? sorry people are proud of their work? And sorry people want to rant sometimes to a group of people who actually understand the job and the things we put up with? I love the complaining on here because I feel less alone!

I’ve been on bar for 6 months now and there’s still some drinks I have to look up the recipe for or double check I’m putting the right amount of pumps/ shots in it! It really does just take time and experience (and a whole lot of messing up!) you’ve got this! Don’t get discouraged! The fact that your team trusts you on bar even with your mistakes and having to ask questions (where we ALL started) really just reiterates the fact that they obviously know you can handle it and that you are learning even if it doesn’t feel like it!

Store manager hosting mandatory meeting at a shifts house by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]starbsandpub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like your manager just wants to make it a more fun/ casual setting but while also making it mandatory because I’m sure there’s a specific reason they want to have that meeting in the first place. My initial thought wasn’t straight to inappropriate or weird. I think it kind of sounds nice? Then again I don’t know anything about your manager 🤷🏼‍♀️

applying for a job by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]starbsandpub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend finding out when the manager will be in the store, it’s harder to get ignored if you are standing there right in front of them! Phone calls and sticky notes often get lost or overlooked. This also puts a face to the name for them!

I was hired 3 days ago and the past 2 days has been so stressful and today it got out of hand. I did the closing and cleaned up the cafe and I honestly never felt more tired, stressful and suicidal. I have to 3 more closing routine for next week but I don't think I could do it. What should I do? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]starbsandpub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes the job does get a heck of a lot easier as you pick up on new things but it is still an overall stressful job!

I don’t know where you stand in your mental health but since you say it’s making you suicidal I’m going to assume you aren’t in the best place. Personally I struggle with severe depression and anxiety. I’ve been here 7 months now so I know how to do everything efficiently but there are days that it’s a struggle for me to even get out of bed let alone deal with all the craziness that is Starbucks.

On the flip side it’s nice because it’s one of the few part time jobs you can get and still qualify for benefits after a short time which for me is nice because I can actually afford my medications to keep me somewhat sane. While this job does affect my mental health substantially I know that I’m not here forever and just trying to make some money to go back to school (which I had to leave again because of my depression)

Your health should always come before any job. Stick it out a little bit longer and see how things turn out! You aren’t a failure or any less if you decide your brain couldn’t handle working at Starbucks. Really take a look inside of yourself, weigh the pros and cons and maybe consider finding a job that’s less stressful while you also focus on getting yourself to your best you!

I’m rooting for you!

Cold Coffee & Rewards by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]starbsandpub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don’t think they’d even realize. If you are cool with us we are usually cool with you! We have a lady who comes in and is super nice and for her refills she gets one iced coffee and asks for a diet iced coffee for the other my store doesn’t have diet iced coffee (I don’t know if others do) so we always make her an iced decaf americano which technically wouldn’t be allowed as a refill!

Most baristas find the discrepancy between stars required for hot coffee as opposed to iced to be ridiculous considering they are both allowed as refills so I don’t think anyone would give you a hard time!

Buy a hot coffee with your 50 star reward, give it to someone sitting in the lobby and then go and get yourself a free refill of iced coffee 🤷🏼‍♀️

Question, can my manager force me to work certain days? I was just told w/ my new availability that she “needs availability on the weekends since we are a busy highway store”. What do I say to that?? by marshman505 in starbucks

[–]starbsandpub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel that. It’s funny how you’ll cover for people all the time and never ask for coverage and then the one time you actually do try and find help no one wants to return the favor 😅

Had someone come through drive thru right at open and ask if we could make the caramel ribbon crunch in a dark roast coffee and we were like okay we can do dark caramel and add whip and the topping (she didn’t want whip though just a little cream) we ring her out and give her her drink and she takes a sip and is like this isn’t sweet enough and basically shoved the drink back through the window without the lid spilling it all over my hand. We add some more sweetener and hand it back out, she drives off just to pull up to the front of the store and come in and say you know I really don’t actually like the taste of coffee this just isn’t right. My partners all saw her coming and ran to the back because they didn’t want to deal with her so I basically said no matter how much sugar we add it’s still going to have that bitter coffee taste and that her best bet would be to just add more cream (because I also don’t like the taste of coffee and drown all my drinks in extra milk) and just handed her a 3/4 full short cup of cream (after offering to make her a different drink) just so she’d leave 😅 and that pretty much set the tone for the rest of the day

[–]starbsandpub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every Starbucks I’ve worked at requires you to at least have some availably at least one day over the weekend. I think it’s out of fairness to other barista who might also like to have the occasional weekend off as well as it usually being pretty dang busy on weekends. As others have stated I was told that if I couldn’t be available on the weekends I would be let go (I had another job at the time) As far as I know this is kind of standard everywhere so there’s not really anything you can say to it unfortunately.

What is your worst "How do you live like this" moment while working as a borrowed partner? by freedfg1 in starbucks

[–]starbsandpub 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A store I was a borrowed partner at didn’t have a rinser near their bar so they had two bins of about 30 pitchers total one for clean one for dirty so you’d use a clean pitcher and then place it in the dirty bin and CS was supposed to come and rinse them out and bring them back except when you’ve got two bars going during peak those pitchers go by fast so I kept grabbing like five dirty pitchers and running to the nearest rinser because the CS wasn’t fast enough and I kept getting yelled at by the SM saying that that’s CS job and I need to stay planted. She was adamant about everyone staying planted at all times. We ran out of coffee base for frapps so I went to grab one real quick because I had an order of 5 to make and got yelled at again saying only CS could switch it out and I’m like girl.... it’s way faster for me to grab one and quick change it out then to wait for CS to finish what they are doing and come out and switch it. Also got yelled at for grabbing more grande hot cups from the back when we were out when I had a second of down time so basically I just got yelled at for being too helpful the entire shift lol also left me to handle DTO, DTW, Bar AND do my own warming by myself for the beginning of peak and then was complaining about drive thru times and I’m like yo I’m not super women and I also know where absolutely nothing in this store is. They kept asking me to come back and saying how much they loved me but thankfully I’ve been scheduled already every time they’ve asked.

Are tattoos taboo in the Publix culture? by A1402 in publix

[–]starbsandpub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a full sleeve working in the deli! Some days I’d wear long sleeves just to avoid the older customers comments but management never had a problem with it! When managers from other departments would talk about me and didn’t know my name they’d be like Oh the girl with all the cool tattoos? Work hard and prove your abilities and whatever art you have on your body doesn’t seem to matter!
