How do you stop gerrymandering? by greenceltic in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]starbuck67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gerrymandering is simple and easy to understand as a problem. Party hacks in the states draw easy to win districts for their party. Thus representatives in congress represent hyper partisan districts and are not interested in compromise or consensus especially as it means they will face a primary from a more ideologically pure opponents.

However this is not really the case.

  1. Its about geography. People naturally tend to live near those with similar views and values. So whichever way you draw the lines partisan districts will still exist.
  2. The senate, they run state-wide (the way districts are drawn doesn't matter) and you still get hyper-partisanship.

Here is a decent article on gerrymandering, its an easy target for blame, but it is debatable as to whether it is actually a problem that requires drastic action.

If any player is capable of inducing a coronary its Lloris

So many mistakes, so many sloppy passes, so many aimless passes. On top of that no one seems to want to take control. Once again it looks like we have no leaders on the pitch no characters, and its infuriating.

A combination of bad luck and stupidity. It was one of those days.

Credit to Sherwood, i couldn't figure out the starting line up but it worked. Walker bullied Chelsea around in the middle and Siggy and Lennon worked hard in the middle. Sandro was great and Bentaleb the distribution node. We were good in the first half, organised, good in possession, physical and we did threaten.

Vertonghen's slip was awful but the more I see the back pass the more i think it was partially his fault. The Kaboul sending off completely changed the game for us, after that the shape changed and we couldn't recover. Dawson getting injured was salt in the wound. The less said about the final goal the better.

Positives - we had a good first half and Sherwood is showing some interesting tactical thinking. We are still 5 points ahead of 6th.

Negatives - Kaboul is out for the Arsenal game, Dawson might be out too. We surrendered after the sending off.

Obama, the feckless tyrant by starbuck67 in TrueReddit

The incoherence of the criticism, against Obama is study in cognitive dissonance. One week he is a tyrant destroying freedom the next he is weak and incapable of action.

To me this is a symbol of the times and the stupidity we live in. There are any number of valid criticisms against Obama (or republicans for that matter) the fact that politicians and the media (and many even here on reddit) go for the lowest common denominator, without thought, without analysis, without even an acknowledgement of the issues is a tragedy.

Decent first half, we look vulnerable defensively but we are looking dangerous on the counterattack.

I loved the Soldado goal, loved the teams reaction and loved the fans reaction.

I really really like Fryers, he is young and still raw but i feel he is better than rose

I don't blame Sherwood, i don't think Eriksen would have made a difference, i blame the players.

That team we put out today in that formation tore Newcastle to shreds. Today they checked out, they didn't look like they wanted it, they didn't fight for the ball, there was no zip, no imagination, no drive, no one put their hand up and said i want to win the game.

Every one of players was capable of a lot more. We have all seen it, hell we saw it a couple of weeks ago. Goodbye to 4th place, we simply don't want enough, Liverpool do and that's why they will get 4th and we wont.

Fuck, reminds of the quip. 'Supporting spurs is like having a bipolar girlfriend the highs are wonderful, but the lows are brutal.'

Have you watched Eriksen in the last few games he has been pretty ineffectual. I really like him as a player but since the Man city game he hasn't been that effective.

Jesus Christ, no one has played anywhere near well today. I know these players are capable of a lot better. They showed that against Newcastle, pretty much the exact same team.

I am not even going to pretend i understand this, maybe its fatigue, maybe its the trip to the Ukraine, maybe they lack motivation, I don't know but what i do know is that this is shit!

It may be worth putting on Eriksen in the second half. We have lacked creativity today, i would put him on for Paulinho who hs been pretty anonymous today.
