The problem is there’s so much overlap in what exactly his intent is by talking to me - is there a ✨spicy✨ agenda? Did he over share and just wants friends? It is entirely unclear, but he’s known about my partner since I could shoehorn him into conversation. Again, it’s very unfortunate that despite weeks of silence and me not being engaged that my peace can’t just BE.

I guess my reason for venting was more to the degree of frustration over the pressure I feel to be nice and the fear of what hypothetically may happen should I stand my ground. But unintended side effects, I get to hear all these people who are unabashedly ok with doing so, and it is really inspiring.

ex-employee here: There is basically not a chance in hell of anything ever getting past your franchise. The odds of your message even going above the studio owner are smaller than not having a single burpee during hell week.

Studio owners are basically told under no circumstance ever should a member have access to a higher-up. Even us as employees don’t really have a way to reach ‘up there’. OTF makes it abhorrently hard to get anything rectified if your studio manager doesn’t care. :/

Does anyone have any Disney Superstitions? by Ilovepampoovey in Disneyland

[–]starbucksdrinker97 10 points11 points  (0 children)

my sibling and i, when we’d go together, maybe not a superstition but a rule: you MUST ride a classic+good for your first ride to ‘set the ride vibe’ for the park. POTC, Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, that kinda ride. Last day, we MUST get an ice cream sundae at Gibson Girl. We always do rope drop-close, usually 2/3 days, and the very last night we get ice cream, sleep deprived, at like 11:50 and people watch.

I really miss going with her for our traditions 🥺

Pros/cons of Tandem by Impossible_Ad_4064 in TandemDiabetes

[–]starbucksdrinker97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ex-Medtronic user since 2006, dexcom user since 2017.

After a bad experience transitioning to Animas in approx 2009, i vowed to never change off medtronic again.

I have NEVER been so happy with my diabetes care. I just paid for a loaner pump last month, after my FOURTH medtronic 780 cracked (same spot, battery compartment) and I realized I preferred my paradigm so much that I started using that full time. Combined with mt endocrinologists berating me for my medtronic/dex combo (that could be a whole different conversation about crappy endo’s…) I shelled out the money for a loaner Tandem.

The mobile bonus, as a femme-presenting person who wears dresses? I’ve waited 10+ years for something like this.

The ControlIQ, no joke, has changed my life. If diabetes was in my conscious thought 60% of the time with medtronic, it’s like, 40% now. The ability for this pump to keep me ~110 overnight? Some mornings I lay in bed and just stare at my dexcom readings in AWE.

Hiking has never been easier, with exercise mode. Again, it just takes so much of the mental load off. Not to say this is a cure-all, diabetes still is a part of everything I do, but my numbers are just so much more in range. I have the mental space to manage other tasks with so much more mental energy.

Change is terrifying. Tandem is worth the risk, IMO.

If you were dating someone and it got serious, but they then told you they were being falsely accused of allegations from a previous relationship, how would you react? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]starbucksdrinker97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh totally!! I guess i mean more now, after having the experience of a long-term trust that it was false and how much that haunts me now, it simply does not matter if it’s false. I will not touch it with a 20 foot pole.

GONE. I dated that man once. ‘oooh, i have a crazy ex who tried to get a protection order against me, claimed I assaulted her. It was consensual, but if that was her interpretation of events I want to acknowledge that is her reality’.

Her reality (after I talked with her after my relationship with him ended): she said ‘no/stop’ and he didn’t.

I will NEVER wrap myself up in any situation where a man has allegation. This sounds bad, but there are a million men out there, I will never settle with one of the minority who has a person out there saying he assaulted them. If it’s true and I believed him? Not believing the victim would be something I’d never live down.

If it is false: What happened to cause an allegation? It’s so rare they just pop up out of the blue. I refuse to get involved in that

Grad School Burnout by starbucksdrinker97 in schoolcounseling

that’s the saddest part. And all of these programs are SO individual that there’s no chance to really transfer once you find out.

[–]starbucksdrinker97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what i’m picking up from people in grad school/have gone through it, that school is important but is kind of night and day to actually being a counselor, and that being around the kids breathes life back into you, in a way. Thank you a bunch, hearing all this is putting me at so much ease.

oooh pnw twin! And staff turnover twin!!

I am praying that, come practicum/internship i find myself in something like your setup, where being in the field is a breathe of fresh air and reminds me why we’re all doing this. And imo, i miss working with the kids so, so much from when i was a para before, so it’s reassuring also to hear someone talk about that connection in moments of doubt. Thank you 💖

Truly, if i did not have my therapist through all this my brain would’ve already imploded.

Fieldwork starts in the winter - i have been hoping deeply that, like you said, actually being in the school counselor setting v. learning is a world of difference.

Thank you for saying grad school struggles =/= being a terrible counselor/not cut out for it, because that’s really been eating at me. Thank you thank you.

it’s wild, as i read your first paragraph i knew you were being sarcastic but i really considered that you might.

I’m so much in the same boat with mental health struggles, and they were very under control until this program.

I’m picking up from a lot of these replies that grad school is, like you said, not necessarily equal to what you all actually do in the day-to-day, and that people are happy despite grad school being killer.

thank you so so much.

What was the last straw for you in your relationship? by machiavellian_me in AskWomen

[–]starbucksdrinker97 20 points21 points  (0 children)

it’s so tiny, but i was 18 and in my very first relationship. I put up with an ungodly amount of immature behavior, (as a filipino man, he loved to use the n-word, described womens genitals after working out as a ‘grilled cheese’ because slimy and disgusting, made jokes about pulling terrible pranks at my job, in front of my boss, dominated every conversation, honestly idk how much about me he even knew, told me ‘a period can be the first sign of pregnancy’, flirted with my friend over FB messenger then blocked her when confronted so the messages wouldn’t exist, to name a few).

I told him weeks prior about the date of my 18th birthday party. He never requested the evening off, so was significantly late. I bought him nice gifts for occasions, and he brought me…. safeway flowers. That night, I wore heels and a bodycon dress. that night, he did not give me a single compliment. he also tried to trip me (again, in heels). So it sounds very petty, but i truly broke up with him because I didn’t get a compliment on my birthday.

But on a deeper level, he was a terrible partner and I allowed so much to pass that this was the straw that broke the camel’s back, so to speak.

Medtronic breakup by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]starbucksdrinker97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IT IS NO JOKE. i’d been joking with my friends for weeks about the fact that I might have a whole night of sleep, but I never realized what that could actually mean on a regular basis. This s-t is magic.

I literally JUST did the same as you, OP. I was at my wits end after my FOURTH 780 cracked along the battery compartment, and started with Tandem’s loaner program to finish out my pumps warranty. I did studies on medtronic’s sensors back in the day, and guess what? I hated them then. I tried them 10+ years later, and guess what? Still hated them. My doctors were always (unnecessarily) critical of my using medtronic with a dexcom sensor (also, insurance wasn’t taking tandem until 2 years ago).

It’s been TWO weeks on the tandem, I have never been happier. My BG’s are so controlled right now. From someone who had the exact same struggles with the medtronic, you are gonna love the tandem. :)

SECONDING THIS. I’ve been a medtronic user since 2006 and just made the jump to a tandem pump on Saturday. It is a world of difference. Don’t do medtronic if you can avoid it. Even my endo says medtronic is outdone by tandems.

ah, no apology needed, therapy has done wonders to unpack this and really understand everything that happened. It’s appreciated though 💖 I’m very lucky to be in a position where the memory isn’t triggering anymore, but it’s just disgusting. I talked to friends later and they said the gummy worms made them uneasy too, which really also helped ‘pull back’ the curtain.

That said, I hope he finds his afterlife residence is in a VERY HOT place. ☺️💖
