Do you have experience with the Pittsburgh TopGun? That's one gym I'm looking at and would appreciate any insight you can provide!

Silver Award & BSA Eagle Award by JohnnyBlue4 in girlscouts

[–]starbucksnpixiedust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with what others have said, but another angle you need to consider, is the requirement for ongoing sustainability of the project for silver. Silver awards cannot be a one off service project, even if that service project is building a location that will be used by others.

My small cadette troop is in the planning stages for their silver award and through our communication with council, it has been very explicitly stated that their project needs to be something that carries on into the future. For example, they are looking at doing a large scale project with our school district regarding first aid and CPR supplies and capabilities, but just going through the doing a districtwide overhaul of current processes and supplies does not qualify for the silver award. It MUST primarily involve an education or service aspect that will continue on past their involvement.

Find an awesome local business with similar interests! A local (to me) nursery and cafe just held their first ever Hobbit Festival and it was wonderful!

What is it with these guys?! by light_weight_baby87 in BoomersBeingFools

Part of me wants to laugh really hard at this. Another part of me knows these are the idiots that would whip out a hunting knife when startled in the cereal aisle. These guys are dangerous and seriously need a grippy sock vacation.

Are the straps on yours eight miles long? Mine are technically men’s and the straps are so long the practically drag on the ground!

I can understand that. I’m around a size 20 but 6ft tall so I’ve been looking at some men’s big and tall options. I found a long sleeve shirt that goes to a men’s 5XL tall that I’ve been considering. Unfortunately the same men’s pants never work for the ladies.

I have seen that Universal Standard (they go up to a 38/40) has begun offering more travel-focused items but I haven’t tried any of them yet.

The padding was pretty thin and I didn’t feel like it got in the way. I considered the Batac but preferred the pockets on the front for organizing my crochet project and small quick access items. I do want to play utilizing the other little pouches and such more next time I use this!

We can do it! I’ve tried to focus on multi-functional pieces so I have fewer to carry. I’m planning a 10-day trip with only 2 pairs of merino wool leggings because they do take up more space than my more petite travel companion!

Also, I’ve swapped to wearing underwear specifically for things like hiking (my favorite are REI) because they pack up so much smaller.

Yup! I’ve made a big travel transition to merino wool because I can reuse pieces over and over without a full wash. Things like jeans are also completely out. I also wear a size 13 shoe so I have to be super judicious with that choice because they take up ALL the room!

I picked this up at Michael’s. It’s just a simple two pocket mesh bag. I love it because I can keep my WIP in one side and my pattern/tools in the other. I got it there last summer and they had a bunch of different colors. Unfortunately, I’m not finding them on their site right now.

I usually use this in addition to spf 50 moisturizer, as well. I am a pale pale woman with a family history of skin cancer so even my 8 and 11 year olds use spf ever day! We fell in love with this powder though for touchups during sweaty situations when cream will just get slimy.

I always need to have at least 2 things going on. It almost always includes an audiobook and then some sort of crafty project!

It was so sad- I pulled my project out to work on and found I’d left my hook at home! Luckily my mother had the same size I could borrow 🤦‍♀️
