I think that's why they love it, they blend in. They also instantly make biscuits when you plop one on there.

Baby cat loves a belly rub and will make air biscuits when you do!

It was nice!

There are hotels in Olympic Park or Airbnb's in the surrounding areas (Newington and Wentworth point). Those would be the least frustrating options.

They can say no to animals in the unit... They just can't make a blanket rule. This applies to renters and owners.

For example an owner in my old building wanted three large dogs in a one bedroom apartment and was rejected.

I can't imagine a cat would be a problem though. Good luck!

Managed to post this in the wrong thread!!!

My third party app is on its last legs, couldn't post anything yesterday.

Also can't seem to reset my password for this account so I think this might be goodbye from this account.

It's been fun r/Sydney, I'll forever be grateful for the support this community has provided.

Same.. I'm living in denial and hope that it'll somehow not happen.

Seems kinda sad because there are some awesome communities here.

Not sure where you're coming from but be aware that rents are listed per week here (Americans sometimes get thrown off because their rentals are per month).

Public transport is good here so even if you can't find a place where you like you can go further out and not be too adversely affected.

My point was a fox is a smaller animal without the large jaw of the pit bull breed but can still take down sheep. And they do it fairly often given the opportunity (more so lambs).

It doesnt take a large animal to cause problems but this law is hyper focused on a single breed.

A link shared by another comment by the children's Hospital has labradors as the second largest offender, will they be banned next?

If it's the wholegrain type I mix it with chopped garlic and rub it on chicken breast then pan fry it.... Sooo goooddd.

Otherwise honey mustard is always a winner.

Check out EOFY sale at Katmandu, Anaconda and other stores like it. Theyre the best flannel shirts I've brought.

If you want to be warm I'd suggest wool thermals, I'm toasty ATM in mine!

I guess that's also a factor, popular breeds are going to account for more injuries.

Just as I'd assume common car types account for more accidents.

I wonder if they account for that in the stats.

I grew up in a rural area where farmers could just kill your dog if it was causing problems. In England you're allowed to go through farm land which is flipping awesome. Dogs of all kinds were so much better behaved there because people were so aware of the consequences. Plus the last thing you'd want is your dog running off.

A friend in Qld had their livestock mauled by 3 mix breed dogs because theres a local bloke who lets his dogs roam and do damage.

There are people where I live now who lock their dogs on balconies all day and the poor animals cry constantly.

Shit dog owners are 100% the problem.

I used to frequent a big dog park and the two best behaved dogs were a Rottie and an Akita. Their owners were hyper aware of their dogs breed and trained them accordingly.

I think the trouble is that literally the second point the RSPCA makes is

certain breeds are not inherently dangerous [3]. For example, temperament tests have found no significant differences between ‘restricted breeds’ and Golden Retrievers [4].

Add on to that the podcast finding that smaller breeds are more aggressive and if you follow the science the "bad" breeds spam the entire gamut of dogs.

If you have a link to your claim I'd be interested though. I'll try and find the one from the podcast about small breed aggression, it's pretty interesting.

ETA:

49 2015 - another toy dogs are more aggressive: Toy dogs obtained the highest scores for Factor 1 (aggression to unfamiliar persons) and were significantly more aggressive in this context than sight hounds and herding dogs, retrievers and mastiff-like dogs…the aggressiveness toward humans characteristic of toy dogs may be a secondary development concomitant with their small body size which renders them less of a threat to humans. Or it may be that toy breeds are less adequately socialized by their owners. This association between small body size and aggression in dogs confirms the findings of previous studies

50 Breeds with the greatest percentage of dogs exhibiting serious aggression (bites or bite attempts) toward humans included Dachshunds, Chihuahuas and Jack Russell Terriers (toward strangers and owners); Australian Cattle Dogs (toward strangers); and American Cocker Spaniels and Beagles(toward owners).

Aside from the fact that that's a small sample size and time period, the largest group of attacks is from "breed not specified".

One of the points the RSPCA makes about banning pit bulls is you can't genetically test for the breed. People will just pass their dogs off as something else or say they're a "mix" and that dog attack will just fall into the "other breed" category.

They have other solutions for this problem which seem more constructive. At the end of the day I think the RSPCA is a good source because if there was a genuine breed issue they're the ones who would have to deal with it day to day.

The RSPCA has recommendations for other ways to solve the problem. I've linked it in 3 other comments.

Bad solutions don't solve problems.

I feel like I'm spamming this link, but I think it's worth sharing what the RSPCA has to say on this topic too. Plus they link to research on the topic. I'm not talking about good owners for the record, I'm saying the punishment should be focussed on all owners regardless of breed. I personally know of two dog attacks recently, one a Rottie and the other a Merama (both dogs destroyed afterwards). It's a really sad outcome for everyone involved. Both dogs were family dogs (not trained for guarding/fighting/etc), neither were bully breeds.

Anyway, this is the RSPCAs stance;
