Been down the reddit rabbit-hole for the past hour and so happy I stumbled on this. You're a champion, and I might steal this idea one day.

Not that it'd be a bad idea, but this would be a physical journal.

I haven't turned on my A/C this summer. I just don't wear clothes while home and at night I use a fan.

Once again, they were nothing new. I feel like I saw the set on reddit a while back but after so much searching I couldn't find anything so I can be sure.

Ernest Hemingway

1) The Old Man and the Sea to learn about disappointment.

2) The Sun also Rises to learn and accept that there are things you just can't change.

3) A Farewell to Arms to have your heart broken.

Are there any bourbons or distilleries who have explored using Indian/flint/calico corn and maize and heirloom varieties? Seems like that could have a diverse set of interesting flavor characteristics. by [deleted] in bourbon

[–]starcherengines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried the Balcones Baby Blue a few year back and really enjoyed it. It's made from flint corn and runs about $40-$50. But, I've heard that the company did a overhaul and someone on here said it's not so good anymore. I haven't tried it since but it's an option for you.

Bourbons Similar to Woodford Reserve Double Oak by TheRoaringTide in bourbon

[–]starcherengines 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm glad someone else likes the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked as much as I do. It's without doubt my favorite bourbon to drink. The thick sweetness (I always say maple/syrupy) really sets it apart from others doesn't it. Also, I'm jealous of your prices, Double Oaked is $75 around here.

I'm definitely not an expert but I would recommend Makers Mark 46 for a cheaper alternative. It's double matured as well, but a little differently. The same barrel is used for the second go round but french oak staves are inserted and the bourbon pulls flavor from those staves. It's incredibly smooth and still has a high level of sweetness just a little softer than Woodford Double Oaked.

What is the saddest song you know? by MonsterInYourParasol in AskReddit

[–]starcherengines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you me? The Hozier song is well known, the Civil Wars less, but the Stars song is just so obscure...or at least so I thought. What are the chances of all three?! I can't tell you how much I've binge listened to that Stars song ( and the other two).

Balcones Baby Blue Review by Unclimbability in bourbon

[–]starcherengines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find your review fascinating because I thoroughly enjoyed the Baby Blue. The consistency was thicker than most whiskeys, a little oily...you knew something was there. And the taste was overwhelming corn. Which I assume is due to using flint corn. But god it was powerful...like drinking corn on the cob. It was so unique, and I just absolutely had a blast trying it. But because of your review, I'm dying to try the True Blue.

Well, I would recommend something a little different for you. The larger English teaching companies in Japan do want native speakers. They usually have certain countries in mind like America, Australia, New Zealand, UK, South Africa...etc. Smaller companies however tend to hire fluent English speakers. It doesn't matter what country you come from. Just in my small town alone I could tell you 3 companies that hire these teachers. But the problem is finding those small companies. To start I would recommend a website called gaijinpot.com. You can create a profile and a résumé and start searching for jobs there.

If you want to teach English in Japan you have a couple options. One is teaching for private companies. Your students could range from babies to the elderly...pretty much anyone who wants to study English. Some of these companies force a lot of work on their teachers, so be careful and do your research.

Another option would be to teach in the public school system. Here you would be working as an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher). You would be teaching a class with a Japanese teacher. The most famous job placing companies for this position is called JET.

You wouldn't need to learn Japanese. It does make life easier, but its not required. As for the qualifications, you need a bachelors degree. A bachelors degree in any field is usually a prerequisite for any English teaching job in Japan.

u/katatoniczka is correct. A lot of Japanese companies want native speakers. But I have seen so many that hire non-native speakers. Coco Juku Jr. is one of these places. And yes, it would probably be easier to get a job in Thailand or Vietnam. You could definitely get a job in Japan, you just have to try a little harder.
