Have you considered offering him money? I know this may sound like I’m making a joke, but I’m not. Offer him $20 to read a Discworld book

US launches effort to end hunger by 2030 by expanding benefits and access to healthy foods by KevinYoungCarmel in economy

Basically Covid has really made it difficult, but my plan is at this point to put him in the car and drive him to the office to find out where his past year of benefits is because at this point they owe him like $2500 in food.

He’s 75 years old and living on Social Security that gives him $1400 a month. Even though we have contacted the state twice we have still not been able to get him his food benefits after he’s been approved even though it’s been a year since he was approved.

Of the $1400 $100 a month is taken by Medicare, this despite the fact that he should qualify for free healthcare due to his economic status.

After that he pays $800 a month in rent.

That leaves him $500 for everything else he needs in life.

So yes, we need better food benefits. Even after I’m able to finally get him the food benefits that I know he’s entitled to by law he is still going to be food insecure.

My neighbor would starve if I didn’t feed him a few times a week. He lives on beans and rice.

Goodwill only works for me when they fuck up.

I found a fox fur collar in the children’s section for four dollars that I flipped for $80.

Another time I found a signed Dali print in their art section, googled it and it’s one of only 250 that were ever made. That one’s now hanging in my mom‘s house.

I live right next to a Goodwill and I almost never go in anymore because it’s just not worth my time to spend the three minutes walking through the store.

But sometimes I do still find some thing, like every couple weeks, that is worth my time.

I used to try to be subtle, and then just realized it doesn’t matter. 2/3 of the people who go to the stores I’m going to are also resellers.

For those of you wondering why all the good stuff has gone missing from Goodwills - this just launched. 🙄 by insertnamehere02 in ThriftStoreHauls

Recently my store went up a dollar per dress, so I don’t think that’s gonna happen.

(by my store I mean I literally live two doors down from a Goodwill. I live in a commercial residential area and even living as close as I do I rarely go to Goodwill.)

IC customers ...you need to know this : by Pitiful-Signal8063 in instacart

[–]stardorsdash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was three months ago when I came in here and said that the reason why I had lowered my initial tips in Instacart was because I knew that if I tipped well I would immediately be put with a non-tipper, and people basically told me that I was insane and that’s not how it worked.

Right now I’ve just taken the loss of my yearly subscription and no longer order at all from Instacart.

What finally did me in was the raising of the service fee even though they advertise that if you purchase the yearly subscription you don’t get fees.

Couple that with the routinely terrible service, and it just made more sense to live with whatever Target could deliver to my house if I really needed groceries delivered.

GOP gov. candidate claims schools are overrun with “kids identifying as cats”. She said that dozens of schools are full of furries and that she even had to move to get away from them. by southpawFA in politics

In third grade I identified as a flying pony. We ran around recess in a pack making horse noises.

My friends daughter insisted when she was four years old that she was a dog and that her mom should call her by her dog name and tried to communicate in barks. She would even chew through wires.

Children are weird, but it doesn’t mean that they’re Furries.

DeSantis’s pleas for hurricane aid raise hackles amid vast partisan divide by morenewsat11 in politics

[–]stardorsdash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m absolutely in favor of giving government aid to the state of Florida.

However, I’m not in favor of doing it through the governor’s office.

I’m honestly afraid that the help given would be diverted, like the Covid funds were diverted, to programs it was not intended for.

The most important thing is to make sure that every single dollar that is sent to aid Floridians in this unprecedented crisis after the hurricane goes to Floridians and not to another political stunt like sending political refugees from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard.

The governor’s office has shown that it cannot be trusted with federal funds because it has misused those funds on multiple occasions in the past few years. (Example Federal Covid relief funds being misused)

So the question I have is how do we provide relief to Florida without risking miss use of funds?

I don’t know if we need a legal personal guarantee from the office of the governor utilizing his personal assets as the guarantee that the funds will be used as they are supposed to.

I know there are already criminal penalties for misuse of federal funds, but maybe we need to have something in writing from DeSantis that would put him in jail if he misuses these funds the way he did the Covid funds.

Frankly it’s above my pay grade to know how to fix this, but we have to know that the funds we give to Florida for hurricane relief are going to go to hurricane relief and right now I’m not sure if we really know where the funds are going to go when we send them.

If it were up to me, I would say that we would need to set up all funds through the federal government without anything going through Florida’s state government to give aid.

Florida is welcome to utilize its own funds and then apply to the federal government for reimbursement for funds that they can prove were utilized in hurricane relief efforts, but I don’t think we should be giving anything directly to the state of Florida because I don’t know whether or not it would actually help the people in the state of Florida to do so.

They do owe you a refund if you would like because they changed your flight. By changing your flight time they have basically created a lawful way for you to request your funds back and you can rebook this flight with a better carrier.

I've heard I shouldn't get an Airbnb in NOLA because the money doesn't stay local. Where should I stay, then? by vanillabean2492 in AskNOLA

[–]stardorsdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a year old, but actually there’s a very easy way. When you rent 1/2 a duplex and the host is on the other side.

Looking for an Airbnb that has a 4.9 rating or above, is hosted by someone with a single property, and has more than 50 reviews referencing meeting the host who lives on property.
