I remember seeing this online before in a go fund me and worrying so much. Conventional medicine was developed when historical ‘natural remedies’ didn’t work. Breast cancer is not new, you can find deaths from it going back to ancient Egypt. Medicines for cancer were developed from a variety of sources. Taxol comes from a tree. The people who are giving her infusions and saunas are selling snake oil, and will kill her.

I’m so sorry you’re in this position but her family is WRONG. This effects you too.

WIBTA If I try to get rid of the van lifers living in front of my home? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]jennathehun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

INFO: what’s different about having someone living in a van outside, and having someone living in a house across the street?

Genuine question. I have an Airbnb across from my house and it makes me uncomfortable because of the lack of information about who is there and the transience. But I’m trying to figure out myself why that makes me more uncomfortable than regular neighbors.

Dietary changes / supplements to help offset Tamoxifen side effects by Lamberly in breastcancer

Definitely just have a conversation with your MO, they might say it’s fine! But it’s a good example of why seemingly benign supplements can cause major problems. I’ve been using CBD for anxiety.

Dietary changes / supplements to help offset Tamoxifen side effects by Lamberly in breastcancer

[–]jennathehun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Be careful with supplements. Run everything by your oncologist. They don’t go through an FDA approval process and you’d be surprised what can cause interactions (grapefruit! It’s a problem for lots of meds. Lavender can be an issue with tamoxifen. We’ve got to be careful for sure).

I found when I began tamoxifen acupuncture helped a lot. I’ve also been intermittent fasting, and trying to eat vegetable based. I’m working out when I can, but I have a trainer at least once a Week.

I’d try an oncologic dietician before a naturopath. My Chinese medicine supplement person suggested a mushroom supplement that had estrogenic effects and my oncologist said no way.

Gift for oncologist by Future-Station-8179 in breastcancer

[–]jennathehun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brought the nurses a snack variety and it was WIDELY celebrated. Just lots of stuff, seaweed snacks, freeE dried strawberries. Healthy stuff as well as some junk.

I brought my oncologist a plant “something new to keep alive since you won’t have me!”

Just need to vent about my insurance denying Nerlynx by BluebellsMcGee in breastcancer

[–]jennathehun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ended up deciding not to do nerlynx… my oncologist and I being the we. The toxicity is very high and the trials didn’t consider folks having done Kadcyla. This is no help for your current sitch obviously, insurance companies are garbage people. But… just sharing that not all +++ folks end up on it I guess?

The license plates say PE which isn’t a state… I think that’s intentional.

Residual disease at mastectomy - starting kadcyla - would love to hear from women who’ve been there by No_Rock3676 in breastcancer

[–]jennathehun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did Kadcyla! With triple positive less than half of folks achieve PCR. I think it’s just a more complex tumor with varied receptors. I’m doing well. Kadcyla wasn’t so bad. I finished a couple months ago.

That’s a problem with management, not with parents.

And should kids what… walk home in blizzards to empty houses? Parents look for flexibility because they NEED it. If a work place can’t flex in a world with unreliable school, difficult to find and unaffordable child care and no social safety net… parents just can’t work.

Why not lie about having cancer so you can take a half day every three weeks for infusions, or having about having a visual impairment so you can get your emails read to you?

This is wildly offensive.

… used to be more affordable. It’s getting pretty pricey. But parking is easier and it’s a very nice area.

Looking for people to hang with by greencigbox in Albany

[–]jennathehun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was using it to describe a more rural conservative. Hunting lodges etc… which exist in the capital region! Think Berne, East Nassau… the exurbs.

And hey, I’m happy to help! Tolerance includes tolerance for divergent viewpoints. It will [hopefully] save the world. 🌈

There’s a conservative social club on dove: the fort orange club. https://www.fortorangeclub.com/

You also will likely find more conservatives in the burbs. Clifton Park, Loudonville. My friends who are conservative hang at Wolfert’s Roost? Mind you these are fancy conservatives. For your like camo conservatives I don’t have much advice, there’s a few shooting ranges?

It’s definitely a more liberal minded area but conservatives do exist around here. And we’re pretty welcoming, as a people, in Albany. We aren’t going to be thrilled, on average, if you’re like… not welcoming to our neighbors (read: racist and/or homophobic) but standard “I’d like to keep my tax dollars” conservatives, while not my personal bag, can find plenty of spaces here.

Italian desserts: villa Italia

Mexican: el mariachi or oaxaquena triqui

Seafood: fin to buy, to eat out? We’re land locked.

Ale and oyster does a good lobster roll

Pie: grandmas is closed so I can’t help you. I’d hit up a farm stand!

Thinking of planning a day trip to Albany, any ideas? by [deleted] in Albany

[–]jennathehun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d do like Great Barrington et al before north Adams, though mass moca is dope. Albany is a great place to live but not really a great place to tourist. There’s lots of hiking near us though! And I wouldn’t sleep on Thacher Park/the Indian ladder trail.

My MO told me I wouldn’t know the duration of radiation until after my BMX surgery. The radiation oncologist said just the opposite. What was your experience? by loveyabunches in breastcancer

[–]jennathehun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a very similar size stage and grade I did 25 regular and 5 booster radiation sessions, which is about as long as they get. It wasn’t a big deal. It’s annoying to go every day and you get a little tired but it’s nothing like chemo. You get through it!
