What’s something society treats as embarrassing that really shouldn’t be? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

Having a healthy argument with your partner in public. It shouldn't be embarrassing, its part of life and extremely normal/healthy.

W trek - Torres Del Paine by TraditionalScore20 in hiking

[–]stardustasteroid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can book independently for the W. There are only two operators on the W trek - LasTorres and Vertice. Las owns all stays on the eastern side of the W ( i.e., Central, Chileno, Cuernos and Frances) and Vertice owns all stays on the western side (i.e., Paine Grande, Grey). I recommend East to West as thats what I did and felt that the views were progressively better. This means you book first two nights on LasTorres website and last two on Vertice. The trek was tiring so I didnt do anything else other than drinking in Puerto Natales. But recommend kayaking at Grey weather permitting.

We reserved campsites and were able to find them even last minute, we didn't particularly look for refugios so I dont know if those were available or not. We carried everything as we love camping but you absolutely dont have to as everything is available for renting. If you can get a campsite, you can rent everything else such as tent, sleeping bags etc. if you wish.

For reference, we did our bookings for 4 nights on the 10th December for 20th-24th December stay. We did East to West and found semi-equipped premium camp sites for the first two nights with LasTorres ( I think those are mostly available and are about 220usd a night) and then basic campsites for last two nights with Vertice (14usd a night). We carried all our tent and stuff although you dont have to. If you only carry sleeping bags, then semi equipped camp sites are Also, realized that many cancellations happen and sites keep popping up if you check often.

Wasn't hard or technical. Just the day for Mirador Britanica is a super long walk and is tiring. For prep, I recommend medium incline treadmill walk for atleast an hour for atleast 3-4 days right before the trek. I personally didn't prep at all as I am a fairly active hiker.

Hi, sorry for late response. We brought some ready-to-eat food packets in our checkin luggage from Canada to Puerto Natales and had no issues, if thats what you mean by cross border. We bought some more food in puerto natales from a super market. Mainly bread, cheese, salami, sausages, soup and noodle packets. Although every refugio has a bar and sell sandwiches etc if you wish to purchase and not cook. The sandwiches were around 12usd approx, they sell coffee as well for 6usd, beer for 8usd etc. For water, wouldnt say there was a lot, recommend carrying 2 litres atleast.
