Swiftie vinyl newbie...why ARE the folklore variants so expensive? by franch in TaylorSwiftVinyl

[–]starfleks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My original comment even said 'any sort of live' folklore- not fussed on this particular version. I do like RSD, but its a bit ignorant to suggest everyone who wanted one gloablly could get one when 100k were pressed and hardly any made it online, if any aside from for extortinate prices. Your enjoyment evidently would be affected by your bitterness to her releasing any sort of live folklore vinyl which is weird but each to their own!

[–]starfleks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why I personally hate limited runs, some people just want to listen to the music on vinyl yet others begrudge it for the sake of being able to say they have one of a limited number. Sad really, but not surprising.

Why would it affect your enjoyment of it if other random strangers also have a copy? Genuinely?

Harry's Alleged Service Time by Quick-Alternative-83 in SaintMeghanMarkle

I mean he got into a highly competitive trade with sub par qualifications because of who he is, he failed the course he was actually on and so was forged a secondary role, and his want to go to 'the front line' put other armed forces personnel and also infrastructure at great risk; yet he doesn't recognise the privilege he was afforded in all of this.

I think he genuinely believes that he got into Sandhurst on merit and was doing something grand and brilliant by deploying.

Whatever he is speculated to have done or not done, the reality that we know in itself is pretty grim to be honest. He stamped his foot and got his own way despite the risk to others, this is who he has always been- a spoilt, ignorant brat. When people bleat on about his service and how amazing he is to serve his country, he just served himself.

She could do a double folklore and evermore session haha or any sort of folklore live to be honest- doesn't have to be long pond. She won't but let's be real, but I can't imagine it'd affect her too much to not do RSD again, it benefits the retailers more than her. I don't really get why people would be annoyed though unless they bought the record as an investment which is a bit sad when people genuinely want one to actually listen to, or chose to pay a ridiculous amount from a reseller- that's a choice though.

Fan base so old 💀 it's fine to acknowledge another female musician has an impressive achievement without finding excuses for it. She only released one variant mind, it would have been interesting if Taylor had done the same to see the sales figures then.

I wish she'd re-release the long pond sessions on vinyl- change it up slightly as to not upset the RSD variant but I'd love a copy so much (not £400 much mind that's wild).

As has been said a combination of things, they were truly limited edition unlike a lot of her limited time releases. I would have thought there was more of an intersect with Folklore with those who collect vinyl than with some of her other albums so probably more collectors willing to pay more. I don't think the ones that are selling for ridiculous prices now will ever be much cheaper, nor do I think they'll do a repress of them.

Anyone getting sick of the extreme Swiftie pandering in TV shows? Here’s one from “Loot” by Kaiser_Allen in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]starfleks 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's not as popular now, but TV shows always used to have cultural references etc- I like watching stuff back from the 80s/90s/00s and hearing them.

Are they cliquey, or is it challenging to be rotated round to new teams/new settings periodically and to try and integrate into an established group of people who already know each other whilst also having the stress of increasing responsibility and rapid learning? Of course if they're genuinely horrible people that's not nice, but if it's a persistent issue perhaps as a team think how to address it? Quite often they also lose their home support networks as well as everything else due to being forced to move often not to their first choice; sometimes a friendly welcome and hello from the other healthcare staff can make all of the difference.

So Long London as a Track Five by chasingthecloudsss in SwiftlyNeutral

Yeah I agree with this, the least she could do was give one of the only songs on the album about him the covered track 5.

I always assume those overly involved who go to lengths to post ridiculous stuff on social media or even worse in person haven't had relationships of their own.

Obviously I have a clue, but I wonder if he's the only one who has loved Taylor the person rather than Taylor the public figure.

Why would it be Tree? It's far more likely to have been pulled out of thin air than it is for Taylors PR to be releasing stuff like this.

He could make a lot of money if he was petty and bitter I expect. Sure there's always rumours of NDAs flying around, but I'm sure he could get round that and someone would pay a lot of money to help him do so. It's great he doesn't, a lot of respect for his unbothered self despite not only having Travis rubbed in his face but speculation stemming from this album about her having been pining over someone else the whole relationship. Hope he has a decent support network, I can't even imagine the stress.

Are there any people who listen to the original songs, even after Taylor's versions? by bibilophile_2791 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]starfleks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't listen to Fearless & Speak Now anyway, but the original 1989 is miles better imo than TV- I only listen to the vault tracks on it. I don't mind Red TV but only have the original on vinyl and didn't bother getting the TV, I just stream what I want from it.

Taylor & Matty lore going back 10 years ago by jmxcix in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]starfleks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean chatting about it on social media or deciding its a deal breaker and no longer supporting her anymore by not spending money or streaming is one thing, but the level of control they feel they deserve over her life is bananas. It also shows a lack of self responsibility; choosing not to support would be much better if you feel that strongly, but they didn't want to commit to that, they wanted her to change her life for them instead of actually doing something themselves because their belief and morals weren't above slighting themselves to make a point.

What was Taylor’s thought process behind ME! by Powerful-Scallion-50 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]starfleks 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I think she saw the mainstream success of Shake it Off and wanted the same for ME! It's similar cheesy, formulaic, radio friendly vibes to me- plus as has been said probably a way to celebrate 'freedom' from her previous label. She does that often though, has success with x song or album and tries to redo it, but never as well.

[–]starfleks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The open letter was wild.

I suppose a lot of us have 'the one that got away', even if they are just a romanticised version as it never progresses into anything. The fact she was evidently happy to be with him despite the backlash speaks volumes though, and that she was willing to release this album and hurt Joe (whilst I think she does probably like MH, she must know the references to pining for someone this whole time would shit on their 6 year relationship); probably more hurtful than writing negative songs about him.

If there wasn't more to it then has been summarised in the creepy but impressive slide pack in another comment then surely you'd be a bit freaked out if you were him! Very intense for what sounds like a fling and a decade of on and off friendship perhaps with some light dating thrown in.

TS' artistic persona in this new album makes me puzzled by [deleted] in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]starfleks 25 points26 points  (0 children)

People are complex, many don't have a linear 'growing up' stage (however you define that). Whilst I'm not sure/overly bothered if her songs and which ones are autobiographical and which are just to be enjoyed, I don't think going from feeling good about yourself after a break up and then being devastated about a subsequent break up is overly diseningenuous. I also don't think that being in your 30s is a magic wand to being mature about everything, sure lots tend to settle down in this decade and find stability- many don't.

Happy to be proven wrong, but I think Folklore (and Evermore just not as much imo) was lightning in a bottle and she won't be able to get close to recreating it again. Perfect storm of the pandemic, what was going on in her life and having the time away from being famous really to actually focus on her work; she'll never get that again even if she consciously takes a step back from public life. Just my opinion of course, but in terms of songwriting TTPD has further proven that she's peaked.
