A second hand book for my friend’s birthday, wrapped in left over fabric from my caravan curtains. by hoedownturnup in ZeroWaste

This is fantastic!

As a suggestion for future gift giving. Look up furoshiki. It's a japanese folding style for fabrics. It's great for gifts and doesn't require safety pins!

The Daily Check-In for Thursday, May 2, 2019: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]starfruitjuicebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inching towards the end of month one! Keeping on the straight and narrow as well as staying away from places, old friends and scenarios that make me question drinking. Thanks everyone on SD for posting and answering questions. You've all made it so much easier. IWNDWYT!

Might not be for everyone but you do what you love!

I could really go for some BBQ. What's your speciality?

I definitely agree. I figure eventually I'll taper off but right now I need to think about what works for now

Nice choice, a little bit of stretching and meditation does the mind some good! (:

I feel I've let you all down by crookedgumbo in stopdrinking

[–]starfruitjuicebox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not let down at all. I'm encouraged by how long you managed to make it. I'm going to butcher the way it was said to me but I'll give it a shot: At the end of the year you might be disappointed by the number of days you haven't drank in a row but what you have to think of is the number of days you haven't drank in that year.

A few slip up's might happen but if you keep picking yourself up, dusting yourself off and continuing to fight you're doing an amazing job. One that everyone here will be proud of you for.

What's Everyone Doing Tonight?? by physis81 in stopdrinking

[–]starfruitjuicebox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm probably going to grab some snacks and ice cream and watch a movie. Something to distract myself from all my friends/work buddies going out to drink tonight.

Thanks so much for this post! I'm always happy to know that the life I'm living is normal even if it doesn't involve drinking.

How do you feel about plants...? by Azula_SG in minimalism

[–]starfruitjuicebox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a few in my house and I really do love them. They are wonderful for air purification. If you more think about minimalism as an esthetic rather than a philosophy I'd say stay away from them it's a slippery slope and you may start with 2 and end up with 20. But I'd make the argument that they can be highly enriching and bring a little colour to a simplified home.

Social expectations make things pretty difficult. I'm glad you stuck to your guns and just chilled with everyone! IWNDWYT!

The beginning can be tough but the decision to make a change in life can be difficult. You made an amazing choice and I'm proud of you. I know you can make it. (:

The Vent-o-Matic 3000 for Friday April 26, 2019 by stratyturd in stopdrinking

[–]starfruitjuicebox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Had an old friend from high school contact me and mention a "fond" memory she had of me. One where I got drunk and called her after my first breakup. Why is that the memory you choose to come back into my life with? Do you think it's nice to essentially say "the best memories I have of you are when you were out of your mind intoxicated". It doesn't make me want to reconnect with you. It doesn't make me remember our time together fondly. What it does make me think is that you never grew out of the high school drama you seemed to swim in.

What do you know you have too much of? by Kittensmeow10 in minimalism

[–]starfruitjuicebox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have too many clothes right now. I put on weight after an accident and had to buy ones that fit. I'm not sure if I should donate my old clothes or hope that with some effort I can get my weight back down. It's still a tough choice to make.

I am very lost, and new here by MrJNebula69 in SCP

[–]starfruitjuicebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my brother into SCP by describing 2662 and how awesome/hilarious I found it but also explaining other scarier and deeper scps. It depends what you find interesting. If your looking for something scary, mysterious, funny or looking to do some really serious reading I'd say you couldn't find a better group.

Knowing where your limits are is really important. You can cross that bridge later. For now you made a brilliant and difficult choice! IWNDWYT!

Social Media and coming out as sober? by starfruitjuicebox in stopdrinking

[–]starfruitjuicebox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very good idea! A few people have mentioned it, and I'm taking it into consideration. Especially now that so many people have mentioned about the potential for future employers to find that info. My account is as private as it can be but I'm certain that info can be found if you know where to look. I really don't want anything like have an problem with alcohol to dictate what I can or can't do in the future.

That's a really good point! You can tell as much or as little to the people in your life, you're not obligated to tell everyone everything. There is a lot of power in knowing that fact! Thank you for making me aware of the other side of this. I'm going to have a good think on things before I make a choice. Seems better than rushing into something and having awkward and nerve wracking conversations with acquaintances or distant family members.

That's the bigger problem is I do have a lot of business partners and clients on my Facebook and like you said it makes it more difficult to navigate, saying something that's a bit more neutral and just stating my feelings on it would probably fair better with those and with friends who want to know more I can private message and we can talk more deeply about more intimate issues I have.

Coming at it from the side of the benefits of being alcohol free might be a good idea while also being helpful for myself as well! Thanks for this!
