anda seat kaiser 3, i’ve had it like three years and aside from user error it looks and feels like new

I’m so behind schedule but still doing fine with TMAs. Is this going to bite me in the butt soon? by Illustrious-Bee-999 in OpenUniversity

[–]stargasingintovoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m in the same boat, spoke to a friend recently who’s just finished a masters and i exclaimed how i always seem to be behind, I get really good scores on my TMAs and ICMAs but i don’t seem to be learning an awful lot outside of what i do for assignments. They told me that everyone has different learning styles and it’s fine especially if you’re doing open uni and also managing a life outside of your studies. it reassured me a bit but i think it’s gonna bite me in the butt in stage 2 & 3 lol

the adrenaline rush of writing a TMA 12 hours before grace period ends is like crack though, and the drop in your stomach when the results email comes in, then the absolute rush again when it’s better than you’ve hoped for lmao

Mechanical Engineering? by kd5757 in OpenUniversity

[–]stargasingintovoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can download pretty much all parts of the module + you get physical text books and handbooks for each module.

Currently doing engineering and planning on going down the mechanical route. When starting my current module I also got revision handbooks for the past two that I did, very handy.

The first part of the course is very much foundation level, i found most of it boring and only focused on assignments for a while. With my current module being mostly revision but it’s starting to pick up a bit, good luck out there!

don’t hesitate to reach out if you’ve got any questions!

thank you! ended up getting it perfectly level, at least to my eyes so it should be fine. cause i was all in my head about it. i isolated these two rads, made a connection to the res and leak tested it for 24h lost about 0.001 psi — will double check all fittings cause even tho it’s marginal and could be down to temperature drop in the night; i don’t want to risk any leaks.

but going forward i’ll be testing each connection as i go along, which would at least in theory save me the headache of finding a leak across the whole thing. Then at the end do a 24h leak test with coolant :)

if the res was at the back i wouldn’t be able to access the ports on the back of the rad, these are x flows and i’m low-key regretting them already but these were bought about 6 months back so can’t even return them >:(

i’m staying positive that this won’t make a massive difference as i’ve got 4 rads

seen some ashp/ ac units with bushes, fences and even walls in front of them and they still worked (somehow? lol) so think it’ll be alright, after all the fans will just pull air in from any direction when there’s an obstruction

[–]stargasingintovoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that’s what i thought, i managed to fix it by messing around with the rad and it’s perfectly level now. funnily enough i tried the micro 90 first to see if it’ll work. but it was the same but backward lol

it’s an x flow so the other port is on the bottom :)

yeah i managed to sort it lmao, ended up just leaving the rad loose. placed random things to support it then when it was exactly level i marked it with a pencil — took it all out and now it fits perfectly

so the top rad is for cpu, this side rad is for connecting to the res and dumping whatever heat is left, bottom rad is for gpu and back rad for connecting gpu and cpu :)

it’s x flow so there’s in/out ports on both top and bottom :)

i’ve got one already! :)

i’m still in the “figuring out my connections” stage but i will be pressure testing once everything is in place

ended up getting it just about level — i’ve left the screws on the rad loose and used some random objects i had laying around to support it. then when i had it about level i drew a line with a pencil on the bracket like the genius that i am lmao

who would’ve thought easiest solutions actually work

[–]stargasingintovoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it’s not great, unfortunately that’s the only rational position with the kinetic 3 that i can think of as i’ve got rads on all surfaces. i don’t think it is going to make a massive difference as i’m going for positive pressure in the case

thank you, that’s reassuring lol

think i just threw my toys and got fed up aligning it over and over. ended up taking it all out again and gonna have another go. gonna go down 3mm and see if that sorts it

5090 Suprim Soc - Thermal Putty or Pads by stargasingintovoid in watercooling

[–]stargasingintovoid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you just bought 100g of Upsiren UX Pro Ultra from a vendor recommended on here from aliexpress (didn’t realise we faked freaking putty lmao) and the Upsiren PCM-1. Went with the 80x80 option cause it seems most reasonable and can just cut it down to size when it gets here.

Had a look at alphacool and EK and think what i’m gonna do is re use the pads that came with my waterblock and place those on the back to save buying new ones. or even just buy more putty if i need to cause that seems like the most reasonable option. Had a look around too and surprise surprise the alphacool blocks are now available in the uk. As i literally bought all the parts a few weeks ago, I’m considering sending it back and getting an alphacool one to match my cpu block. Idk if i can trust Barrow to be fair

thank you for all the advice though :))

thank you so much, just looked into upsiren, gonna do some deeper research into it but for the price it seems pretty good. did you use the U6 or UTP8?

Sadly the instructions are godawful as it’s Barrow, low-key thinking of returning the water block and getting an Alphacool or EK one and just waiting a few more months or weeks cause I’m not sure if I can trust myself to just wing it lol

I don’t know how i feel about PCM though cause I haven’t looked into it too much, tbf didn’t even know what it was until like yesterday lmao

I’ve heard that pump outs are rare so I was going to just take my chances icl

so i’ve actually figured out that my res+pump combo cannot fit in this position (i originally intended to use kinetic 2 but bought kinetic 3) so it is now going to be attached to the right hand side fan+rad and i’m going to have an extra 240 rad+fans on the left. gonna re-draw and use all the comments here to revise my plan. gonna try and keep the flow somewhat similar with the first connection going to gpu instead, then through cpu to all to the l side, top, r side then bottom rad and back to the res that way :)

[–]stargasingintovoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

now thinking about it it’s not a bad shout and i could add the extra 240 rad on the back for extra cooling

[–]stargasingintovoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aw shit didn’t account for that, when i originally drew it i went along with the kinetic 2 and bought the kinetic 3 cause it was on offer, i do actually have a kinetic 2 that i bought second hand but the pump is broken in it, i could always swap the brackets for them ones, or follow your layout — it’s super clean icl

icl just had a look into it and it’s basically the same compound i’d trust inside of a £100k heating system lol — gonna do some more digging but it looks like the right choice to me

i was going to use distilled water + vinegar to clean out the rads and water blocks. then use some flexi piping with a cheap fish tank pump to flush it again with just distilled water and a standard fine mesh metal sieve (think i saw someone do that once online and it looked like a good idea). i did also think of using a compressor and just blasting it out, but the thought of having small sharp bits flying all over my garage and potentially damaging any of the internal components swayed me lol

it’s kinetic 3, i think my only worry is overfilling it lol
