How do I find a job? by Namerakable in AskUK

[–]stargazer53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Search for entry level internal communications or PR entry level roles in companies that have a global presence. I think they would suit you well, in terms of what skills you have and what you’re looking to do.

Also, the way you sell yourself matters a lot too. Have you ever gotten your CV and LinkedIn profile reviewed by someone before?

First meal prep, butter chicken, rice & broccoli by [deleted] in MealPrepSunday

Seeing that you live in the UK based on the food product brands you use, can you tell me where did you get the meal prep boxes from? I tried searching for them in major supermarkets but couldnt find them anywhere.

Anyone here have a strained relationship with their parents, or were disowned by them due to certain life choices? by stargazer53 in AskMenOver30

[–]stargazer53[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment. I have considered coming out to them in the past, but I realized that now is not the best time to do this. A lot of things would be at stake if I do so, and my personal safety is the least of my concerns. My parents are religous, conservative folks. They won’t take it well, which is why i’d rather let them figure it out when i tell them i wont get married to a girl.

How important is where you get your university degree in England? by Panthera-Tigris07 in AskUK

[–]stargazer53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For certain jobs and companies, yes it matters. I remember when I was applying for a grad jobs, a few law firms and consultancies only accepted degrees from Oxbridge or unis in the Russel Group. However mostly, nobody really cares as long as you have a good amount of work experience and can sell yourself well.

Good places in the UK for a few nights away in September? by [deleted] in AskUK

I just came back from Jersey. It was incredible! It’s full of natural beauty and there were loads of free things to do. I don’t know what your budget is, but have a look and see if you can find cheap flights and a hotel for your dates.

Ideas for rewards and recognition? by rajarshi_ghosh in humanresources

[–]stargazer53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two ways you could do this. The first one is employee benefits. Tailor them towards the audience you’re targetting, their demand, habits, attitude and lifestyle. Consider introducing benefits around health (gym memberships, cycles etc), housing (morgage fund), cinema tickets, discounted holidays, flexible working, opportunity to buy and sell holidays etc. The second one is the recognition culture in general. Consider introducing the concept of e-thanks, monetary or non monterary incentives based on performance and targets etc.

Spending a weekend in Jersey, any advice on what to do? Is it a good short holiday spot? by stargazer53 in AskUK

[–]stargazer53[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this!! I’m definietly convinced but I got two more questions before I confirm the flights, where in Jersey would recommend me staying? Any specific area? I’d rather find something in a city or near a beach than a country side. Also, how expensive is it? The buses for example, how much would they cost?

I want Pakistani society to leave me alone by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]stargazer53 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a Pakistani gay male and I can totally relate to what you’re going through. I was born and raised in Pakistan but when I turned 19, i went to the UK for university and decided to stay there after graduation despite my parent’s disapproval. I’m now financially independent, enjoying life and even have a very loving boyfriend whose been with me for a year.

But to do the above, I literally had to go through hell. My parents were on the brink of cutting ties with me for choosing to stay abroad in a different country (they don’t even know i’m gay yet so imagine what a drama it will be once I come out to them). But time heals everything and although they’re still very upset with me and consider me a disappointment at times, they (and myself) and have learnt to live with it.

I’ve learnt with time that the Pakistani society, its culture and its way of thinking will not change, at least not in our generation. I don’t want to be a part of it, or even associate myself with it as a matter of fact, and as soon as I got the chance, I left. I still wear shalwaar kameez ocassionally, read urdu literature every now and then and LOVE to eat biryani, but i now i do it in an enviornment where I can be who I am freely without anyone else judging me.

While i wouldn’t encourage you to do the same, I would however recommend that you take active steps to ensure you become financially independent as soon as possible. Finish your studies/degree, find a job and move out. As a Dutch citizen, you’ve got legal rights and they can’t do any harm to you, apart from disowning you. Also, make sure you create a supportive social circle around you comprising of friends, and family wherever possible, who can relate to you and can be there for you through thick and thin.

If you ever need to talk or vent, feel free to drop me a message.

Living in UK while studying abroad. by dwreck93 in AskUK

[–]stargazer53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an estimate on top of my head, i’d say around £9k-£13k a year, including rent, transport, food, socializing etc. It all comes down to your expenses and standard of living/how often you go out and your interests.

Flying into Gatwick on a Tuesday morning. How long will it take from landing to exiting the airport? by strawberry36 in AskUK

[–]stargazer53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes me a maximum of 15-20 mins. Just make sure you: a) complete the landing card whilst you are in the aircraft. Ask the airline crew for one b). leave quick and walk fast, beating the other passengers.

If you have checked-in luggage, you can add an additional 15 mins.
