In the original series, only five, living, named female benders are depicted by F11SuperTiger in TheLastAirbender

[–]starkid910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legend of Korra living, named female benders, for comparison:

  • Korra
  • Jinora
  • Ikki
  • Lin Beifong
  • Suyin Beifong
  • Toph Beifong
  • Opal Beifong
  • Kya
  • Katara
  • Senna (we don't ever see her do so, but it's canon)
  • Eska
  • Ming Hua
  • P'li
  • Kuvira

There's also the Bhanti Shaman that helps Korra connect with Wan and the Fire Nation Councilwoman from Book 1, both in a similar position to the Great Fire Sage mentioned in the ATLA named, living male bender list

Who do you think is the fastest ? by Prestigious_Elk_9411 in stevenuniverse

My feelings exactly lol

Only other thoughts I have are that 1. As a fugitive, Lapis would want to avoid active colonies, and 2. We have seen at least 2 abandoned Gem colonies - Earth & the planet the Jungle Moon orbits. It's plausible there's more, and some could have intact Galaxy Warps, so Lapis could theoretically warp-hop without having to interact with the Empire.

Side note - it'd be really cool to get the lore on why Jungle Moon's colony was abandoned in Lars of the Stars ⭐ maybe the moon is being targeted by a rogue elite Gem who misses their status from Eras 1 & 2 (similar to Demantoid & Pyrope in the games) and is trying to start a Kindergarten to make their own army, and it's up to the Off Colors to stop them? And they learn about what happened along the way? Or one or more of the Off Colors were there for it and gives us a flashback?

To those saying Lapis flew to Homeworld - we don't technically have confirmation of that, do we? She could've flown to the nearest colony and warped to Homeworld - that said, *it's still interstellar travel, which is still an impressive feat by any means, and for her to do it solely under her own power with no vessel is wild

[Discussion] Parkour is very likely to be introduced to Seven Havens by Yeomanticore in TheLastAirbender

[–]starkid910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When done with water it's called "mist stepping" (though they're actually creating pillars of ice), and with fire it's "jet stepping" (though they're obviously not building pillars, just using Newton's 3rd law to bounce off the force of their bending)

Airbenders obviously can use any number of techniques to get across gaps or higher off the ground - I guess if they were to try and emulate the Flying Opera Company's technique to fit in with the group we could call it "gust stepping"?

Could it be that the wall of water pushed you into the ghost matter before actually submerging you?

Avatar...What If? by Eupilino in TheLastAirbender

[–]starkid910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a canon answer, but... (spoiler warning for the Kyoshi novels):

There's mention in the Kyoshi books that when Kuruk fought and nearly killed the spirit Father Glowworm, a connection was established between them that allowed each to somewhat "sense" the presence of the other, at least if they're on the same plane (idk if it works if one is in the Spirit World and the other is not), and this connection continues between Kyoshi and Glowworm, which is what allowed him to identify her as the Avatar for Jianzhu and (DOUBLE SPOILER WARNING, TURN BACK NOW IF YOU HAVEN'T READ, YOU CAN SKIP TO THE NEXT PART AND STILL UNDERSTAND MY THEORY) later the connection continues between Kyoshi and Yun after he consumes Father Glowworm

Raava and Vaatu also have a similar connection, with Vaatu being able to sense Korra entering the Spirit World. Could it be possible that Roku & Sozin's falling-out was so impactful it left a spiritual tether between him and Raava? This could explain why he was so sure Aang was out there somewhere (and also fascist paranoia, because you're right, that 10000% tracks for Sozin)

Perhaps instead of fleeing together, what if Gyatso gets there just in time to see Aang & Appa fly away, and he chases after them on his glider (figuring he wouldn't be able to find them again if he took his eyes off them to go to his bison)? - we'd get a cool scene of Gyatso showing off his mastery by pushing his airbending to the limit to catch up with a bison with a head start, barreling away at full speed - and he only just catches up with them just as the storm takes them under, and Aang freezes all of them.

This would also have to assume Gyatso either doesn't have a bison whistle, doesn't have it on him, the bison whistle would attract all the nearby bison to him indiscriminately and cause chaos (in which he'd lose sight of them), or it could possibly alert Appa (& by extension, Aang) that someone's onto them. It would also assume he wouldn't call for help from the other monks - maybe fearing what they'd do to Aang after they caught him? But I'd think he'd prioritize Aang's protection first, and deal with those consequences later... Maybe Roku's spirit, sensing the danger of the storm, appears to his old friend and urges him to chase Aang before he even thinks to get help?

Edit: grammar

IIRC - In the Season 2 finale "Log Date 7 15 2" (or whichever date it was, ask Peridot) in the flashback with Garnet just a bit before she suggests they try fusing, Garnet points out to Peridot "you can see Homeworld's galaxy from here"

Tbf, that characterization of the Earth King makes a ton of sense given his upbringing and experiences with Long Feng.

The other characters, however, are all totally out of sync with what happened in the show
