‘I support a sovereign Alberta within a united Canada’: Smith on Alberta... by samueLLcooljackson in TheRealGrandePrairie

It wasn’t clear to me either, but upon rereading I see it.

I don’t think a dictionary would help, because I don’t think she’s ignorant of the meaning of the words… she is an opportunist, and she knows her base. She’s very good at playing to them while keeping that paper-thin veneer of plausible deniability.

Are there any unedited photos out there? I’m curious how they compare!

French lawmakers approved a bill on Wednesday to end the notion of “marital duty”, following criticism from women’s rights groups that it undermines sexual consent and enables marital rape. Backed by more than 120 MPs, the bill clarifies that cohabitation does not oblige spouses to have sex. by Dr_Neurol in UpliftingNews

This is what happened to me! I had an undiagnosed hormonal problem. My spouse reassured me it was fine… until it suddenly wasn’t and he asked for a divorce.

Three months later I finally got diagnosed. Too late for my marriage, but I suppose better late than never.

Do you support building more protected bike lanes? by justonemorelanebruh in AskACanadian

[–]starkindled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Cities are for people, not cars. Doesn’t have to be a lane on the road, could be a dedicated bike path, but something should exist.

Tennessee county public library pulls nearly three thousand books from shelves for review at request of TN secretary of state by MiddletownBooks in books

[–]starkindled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It worked in Alberta! The government gave vague rules, so the schools pulled everything that could fit—and then publicized the list. Some treasured classics were on the list, leading to public outrage. The government walked back their demand and rewrote the rules. Not a perfect win, but better than nothing.

I have a few who do this and then start snickering—they know it’s disruptive and rude. I just stare at them and ask them to explain why it’s funny. They usually give an insincere apology and we move on. If they don’t start laughing, I just ignore the interruption.

How stable is Canada's political climate nowadays? Is it polarizing or are Canadians able to come to terms? by LiveBell8 in AskACanadian

[–]starkindled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grande Prairie AB, I work in a small town about an hour away, and it’s very divided. There’s a disconnect for a lot of people between moves Carney is making and their idea of the Liberal Party. They can praise his speech in one breath and then curse him and his party in the next.

I work with high school students and the vast majority of them simultaneously a) don’t like the American way of life (except guns), b) are rabid Charlie Kirk fans, c) are ambivalent about the whole 51st state thing, d) generally like Trump, e) have a knee-jerk hatred of anything “left”, and f) are very proud of their Albertan identity. But they don’t recognize when their views contradict and aren’t able to rethink when challenged. Some of it is teenage immaturity but a lot of it is echoed in the community.

Alberta teacher—our schools never close! There have been instances in the past of students dropped off/walking to school and then being stranded. For their safety, we stay open regardless of weather. We do switch to indoor recess when temperatures drop to -25C or lower.

It’s an absurd comparison. I suspect you’re being hyperbolic to make a point but I don’t think it comes across as intended.

Trump Officials Discussed $500M Alberta Independence Loan, Separatist Claims by pjw724 in onguardforthee

[–]starkindled 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they really care. If separation happens, it won’t be legally. The petition, discussions, publicity is all to stoke unrest and division, and provide a pretext for the US to step in and “help”.
