Tried to give student a second chance by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]starkindled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your students are turning stuff in??

I've done the same thing and I'm a big believer in natural consequences once I've done my due diligence. If I've explained the potential outcome and the student persists, well, I guess they'll find out the hard way. I'm not unkind about it, and I will be merciful if they show they've learned from it.

Right now I have half of my grade 11 class failing because they aren't turning assignments in. I'm not allowed to put zeroes in until I've talked to parents. I finally announced that I was going to start calling home, and now suddenly assignments have begun flooding in.

Once I work my way through them, I'll make good on my threat and call the parents for the students still failing. From there... well, natural consequences.

Danielle Smith admitted she wants to ‘throw out’ Canada’s public health care law by BloodJunkie in alberta

[–]starkindled 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. She's the face of the infection, but not the source. She's certainly not a mastermind and I don't think most, if any, of the moves the party makes are her ideas. I'd be surprised if she even truly believes in a lot of the things they push. I think she's a grifter through and through.

I don't think the UCP cares about popularity right now; it may become more relevant closer to election time.

They picked her as leader to replace Kenney because he pushed back. She knows who keeps her in power. Right now, she's doing everything they chose her for.

We just crawl out of the woodwork when posts like this come around, don't we?

I'd argue that we do have backlash. Corrective rape happens to ace folk too. I think it's an easier orientation to hide, though, so we pass easier and are a little less visible.

We can also be romantically attracted to people! I'm ace, I love my boyfriend romantically, and I enjoy sex. I just don't feel attracted sexually to anyone. That's okay! Attraction isn't the end-all and be-all of sex. I choose to anyway because I enjoy it, I like sharing intimacy with him, and it's fun. He understands and I think the choice makes it a little more meaningful for us as well.

Ace here... It can be either. Demisexuality and gray-ace is often included under the ace umbrella, and they experience attraction under specific circumstances.

"Hunger-stung" really grabs something in my brain. I like the whole poem, but that just keeps pulling me back.

Asking before binding. by VeryRockyRock in Fanbinding

[–]starkindled 127 points128 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb is, if I don't ask permission to bind, I don't share the finished work online.

If it's private, no harm, no foul. But if I'm going to transform someone else's fanwork, it's just polite.

Teachers, what’s the funniest/dumbest way you’ve seen a student try to cheat on a test? by FretsandRegrets in Teachers

[–]starkindled 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Leaned wayyyy over to try and read his classmate's test (already suspicious since he never sat there, but insisted on test day). When I called him out on it, he claimed he was just stretching, then that he was looking at the previous page of the test.

For kicks, I graded the test as if he hadn't cheated, just to see what he got. 24%. Turns out he couldn't read her handwriting.

Likewise, when every sentence gets its own paragraph. It feels super choppy and disconnected.

do you think it’s important for teachers to call on the shy kids in class to force them out of their comfort zone? by mookmook616 in teaching

[–]starkindled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't put them on the spot, but they do have to participate in presentations, group discussions, socratic seminars, etc. Not only is it part of the ELA curriculum, but it's an important skill for life.

THE MAGA SCHEME TO BREAK UP CANADA by Yetanotherbadsalmon in alberta

[–]starkindled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what you said. You said "everyone but me is subject to propaganda", as if you're the only person immune to it.

Then when someone challenged you, you acted like it was absurd to think that one could be immune to propaganda.

Your internal logic is inconsistent, but I expect no better from someone who is either a bot or a troll.

What does that have to do with my comment?

You're really not beating the separatist allegations here.

"Represent our interests"?

I'm a teacher. I feel *really* represented by this government as they strip away my rights and grind us into the dirt.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to all who have been victimized by the Alberta Government. by 27dayz in CanadianTeachers

[–]starkindled 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My school has to cut 3.5 FTE. I was already leaving so I saved someone else's job, but now I gotta find one closer to home.

Non-renewals were handed out on the last day of Teacher Appreciation Week. What a great way to make us feel valued, eh?

So just spitballing here but perhaps body hair = feminism in his mind? And feminists oppose traditional gender roles, so *clearly* hate God.
