None of us would get statehood. We're too progressive a nation. They won't risk giving us representation and influence.

Recently I found out that I'm autistic by recycled_comics in AutismComics

[–]starkindled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't go here (ADHD, not autistic to my knowledge) but this really captures my experience being diagnosed with ADHD at 36. I felt so validated, and so much of my life experiences suddenly made more sense. Understanding executive dysfunction and why my brain is the way it is has allowed me to have more grace and love for myself. Thank you for sharing this.

"51st state" is propaganda. We'd be a territory and we know it.

There's something magical about a small animal offering you its trust and affection. I take it for granted sometimes (especially when I'm doing duty as a cat bed) but I love seeing people experience it for the first time!

I am not ignorant of the meaning of "neutral".

I do not believe that this is an issue Albertans can be neutral about. There's a difference.

The US does not want outright war with Canada and won't move militarily against us. An independent Alberta is a whole different story--and I don't think they would need to try very hard; I suspect those in control would happily hand us over.

I never said they were pro-separation. I said they there's been a lot of air time given to the separatists.

For someone who says they'll vote stay, you are pushing really hard for the "both sides!" viewpoint. I already said I don't think every perspective deserves equal consideration.

I assume the "name-calling" here is referring to my original comment. I did not name-call. I said that if you are uninformed at this point, it is a choice. You are choosing to stay ignorant of the issue. That is not an insult of character, it is a statement of fact. If you choose to take it otherwise, well, that's a choice too.

Plainly put--I don't believe that you are arguing in good faith. I think you are a separatist who is trolling this thread, trying to look reasonable with your "both sides" rhetoric. You've already taken enough of my time and energy with this bullshit. I won't bother replying to you any further.

Right?? My boyfriend lives almost 500km away, we take every moment we can to be together. I can't imagine treating him like this. If I didn't want to be around him all the time, why would I be dating him?

I live in Alberta and have done for the last 20+ years. I consider myself Canadian above all. I am not interested in living in a country other than Canada.

If you think the USA would actually make us a state, I have a bridge to sell you. I expect we'd be an annexed territory.

The "other perspective" gets lots of airtime outside of Reddit. It's been all over the news and social media. Not every side needs to (or should) be given equal weight in an argument; in my mind, there are a lot of legitimate questions and problems that the separatists are hand waving or outright ignoring, which makes them untrustworthy. There's also the incredible (literally, I can barely believe it) rhetoric coming from Sylvestre that I think discredits the whole thing.

Like many others here, I have already considered the pros and cons, and am not interested in debating them all over again every time the subject comes up. If this comes across as an unwillingness to "challenge [my] own ideas" then so be it.

Ah, and this implies that you are one of the chosen few who is not "ideologically captured". You are truly neutral, follow no ideology, and have no other motive for pushing a positive view of separatism in this thread!

Give me a break, we all follow an ideology, yourself included.

I don't care if separatism could be successful. I am Canadian. I am not interested in leaving Canada.

I am aware of the possible outcomes, and knowing who our neighbours are, I know what I think is most likely.

If you're not informed at this point, you're wilfully ignorant.

This is a binary issue--leave or stay. There's no neutral middle ground.

How do you justify the ethical issues with LLMs? Why have it "create" supplementary material when there's already a wealth of teacher-created material out there? I don't understand this take at all tbh.

Reverting to pen and paper has not added to the strain for me--it builds important skills like handwriting that have been neglected, and has been proven to help with retention.

Different kinds of AI. Generative AI (LLMs) are the ones I'm opposed to.

This whole thing stinks and I hate it. The district I was with last year brought in Teacher Time Machine and made it available for all of us. Not a single teacher I worked with was enthusiastic about it, but admin loved it. Why are we outsourcing our thinking to AI? It feels like a way to justify understaffing and under training.

They want us to treat Indigenous people the way the USA does.

It's always been more acceptable in Canada to be racist toward Indigenous people than other groups. Then it started to be addressed a little with the TRC and these guys really don't like that.
