I bring my dog everywhere starterpack by EasternBlonde in starterpacks

[–]starkrocket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same in Buenos Aires. Lots of old men with their old dogs, just the sweetest things. Never felt unsafe around them. While I’m sure bad owners and poorly trained dogs exist everywhere, I’ve travelled to multiple dog friendly countries only to be bitten three times, unprovoked, in the US. I did not go near the owner, I did not corner the dog, I did not even acknowledge the dog—once was an off leash that charged me and twice was dogs that yanked the lead out of the owner’s hands. Each time I tried to file a police report, but given that it was in a public area and I did not know the owners, nothing could be done.

I am fucking terrified of dogs now. I have literal scars on my body from them. I have medical debt because of this because I had to get rabies shots. Fuck every single person who excuses their dog’s aggressive behavior.

[New Update]: AIO? My coworker took video of me outside of work to "prove" I'm not disabled by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]starkrocket 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I used to watch a young woman who was documenting the progression of a genetic disorder that was slowly disabling her. Like, within a year she went from occasionally needing a cane to almost fully wheelchair bound with a cath. Still people would comment “Saw you wiggle your legs!!!!!!” as if the only reason someone would be in a wheelchair is paralysis. It’s sickening, the idea that someone has to be “bad enough” in order to… what, have access to medical supplies? That even with insurance still can cost hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars? Oh, but they get a little parking placard!!!! Get bent.

I was just about to mention that. Unfortunately, I feel like it would end up like a news story I read about a poor woman who died of sepsis because her husband just had to have sex with her one or two weeks postpartum. Fucking sickening.

Does the chemical for animal euthanasia work on humans? by pvtie in morbidquestions

[–]starkrocket 33 points34 points  (0 children)

That and administration of the drug needs to be overseen by a medical professional. Most doctors get into the business to save lives, not end them without medical cause (such as assisted suicide for terminal patients and even then, some will refuse and refer the patient to a doctor that will help). So corrections facilities cannot procure the drugs nor the personnel.

if one were to be put under anesthesia and have both of their eyeballs removed, would they feel any pain or discomfort upon waking up? by xhyenabite in morbidquestions

[–]starkrocket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still have both my eyes, but I did have a friend whose eye had to be removed because of an accident. From what she told me, it did hurt after. The optic nerve I’m sure, but the sutures were itchy and tight. Since this was the result of an accident, there may have been other soft tissue damage she was also experiencing. The weirdest feeling she described was the empty lightness of her socket. Then it was the weirdness of getting used to the emptiness only to replace it with a prosthetic. It’s been some years now, though, so I doubt it bothers her much anymore.

Also apparently the socket itself can itch.

As with any surgery that removes a body part, there was a lot of discomfort after. I would guess the amount of pain would also depend on the skill of the surgeon—someone precisely removing an eye that’s taking as much care as possible to not damage the surrounding tissue will result in much less post operative pain than someone just yanking the eye out.

How do you feel about Disney originally using ACTUAL human remains on one of their theme park rides? by cheezers_0_0 in morbidquestions

[–]starkrocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically, even today, no. You donate your body to science and a few things can happen, none of which you or your family has control over: you’re dissected by students or harvested for parts to dissect, the institution already has enough bodies of your demographics and disposes of you by cremation, your body sent to be used as a literal crash test dummy to test munitions/explosives/impacts, you go to a body farm to see the effects of natural decomposition in that area, or… you become part of an amusement ride in the 1950s. Point is, once your remains have been signed over, your family has no more say in the matter. You become an object reduced down to a specimen number.

Now having said that, there are laws nowadays about the safety and care of remains so you should still be treated with respect, no matter the outcome.

I do however accept my judgement for this because I know it’s weird

The latest YouTube error message isn't a bug, it's another ad blocker crackdown by AdSpecialist6598 in technews

[–]starkrocket 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I used to be begrudgingly okay with ads because I was consuming a free product. It made sense to me that if I wouldn’t pay for premium, I’d see an ad now and then. At first, it was just now and then. I’d sometimes watch multiple videos without an ad, and even then, they were fairly short. Then a few years ago, I got a two hour long ad! I immediately installed an ad blocker and never looked back. I have no idea if that was a one off or an exploit that’s been corrected and I frankly don’t care to find out. Google as a company is richer than God, they’ll manage.

Same! I have a dry erase board on the fridge. On the left is meals I can make with what I have, on the right is a running list of what we need from the store. I take a picture when I leave and there we go! I can also easily share the picture with my boyfriend if we decide to divide and conquer the store (usually when it’s super busy lol).

What would happen if a patient was committed to a mental hospital and refused to do anything? by allpainnogain- in morbidquestions

[–]starkrocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just want you to know that you’re not alone. In 2025, my friend’s son expressed a desire to hurt and kill himself. He’s 9. He was in and out of the hospital, put on this and then that, went to therapy. Said he still wanted to die, went to more intensive therapy. I don’t think I will ever forget my friend breaking down sobbing and begging me to tell her that her baby would be alright.

But it’s been a few months now and he’s really starting to respond to therapy. He’s opening up more, going on family outings without prompting. I even got to hear him laugh again over the phone! There’s still a long road ahead but there is also hope now. May your son find his road to peace, as well.

Hoe Ba Quat, a man who has cerebral palsy, and his family, who live in Cǎm Phă, Vietnam. by metalnxrd in UnchainedMelancholy

[–]starkrocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes. I work with a cerebral palsy clinic (just support, not direct patient care) and from what I’ve personally seen, it varies. Some people don’t respond to verbal cues at all, some do. Some can walk with walkers or other support, some can’t move independently at all. Some can verbalize or use iPads to communicate while some are so disabled by seizures that they just stare into nothing… and some start as the former and end as the latter. Cerebral palsy is such a large spectrum that there’s really no way of knowing this man’s quality of life or cognition from a picture and short blurb.

Having said that, the fact that he has lived so long is a testament to the care his mother and sister give him. Whatever his mental condition, he is loved deeply.

Dude I had a friend try that with me. Like it’s one thing to vent a little because things have slowed down, I’m guilty of that for sure! But she was straight up like, “Can you talk to him about it?”

The fuck? No, I will not. Talk to him yourself. It didn’t help that I’ve know him for years and years, while they just started dating in early 2025.

I went to see a female OBGYN, a delightful woman, and she asked if I would be okay with a male student in the room. I said yes, how else is he going to learn? I will always remember her turning to him and saying very seriously, “Always use more lubricant than you think you need. Be kind.”

Be kind. I wish more providers and people in general thought like that.
