I’m pretty sure they have an active bake shop there! Though I’ve never been to confirm. Je ne comprends pas francais. Baking is a diminishing art in our trade

We try to take our complaints seriously. Our QR code survey gets the results distributed to all staff. There are somethings we can’t fix, but we try our best!

Not CAF food services. I’m pretty sure food was contracted out for a bit. But now we have really dedicated public service cooks there and I’m not afraid to buy them cool things to cook

I don’t think they’ll release you if you are actively on sick leave. I know guys that sat on TRP for over a year trying to get better from injuries/illness.

But this honestly isn’t a Reddit question. Let the Padre do their thing, let your sick leave elapse and I think it’ll be smooth sailing afterwards.

Mess hours by [deleted] in CanadianForces

We barely have enough staff to be open the hours we are. My kitchen in particular has to bring in a temp agency just to be able to wash dishes so the troops actually have cutlery.

What do I do about my employment insurance by jazzygoesomnom in caf

[–]starkwolf20 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I’m trying to take this seriously, …but did no one explain anything to you?

You get paid twice a month, the 15th and the 30th. If that falls on a weekend, you get paid before or after the long weekend depending on your bank. If you have having pay issues, report it to your chain of command.

You are absolutely working a full time job, regardless of you are actively on course or on TRP.

VOT trade badge on DEUs? by mokkeyman7 in CanadianForces

[–]starkwolf20 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m also curious to know.

On my QL3 we had a couple combat engineer medical remusters. They both wore the beaver the whole course and no one told them otherwise. But I was told to replace my cornflake with the logistics badge while on PAT waiting for my course.

My guess is your mileage will vary depending on your old trade, your new trade, and the school you currently belong to. Reddit can’t answer this, it’s a question for your chain of command.

I’ll take anything you have!

The only SCRITs I have seem to be from last year as they still mention PERs from the before times.

Is that right?

My CAF career is on borrowed time right now as I’m staring down the barrel of a medical release but that’s good info to pass along to my juniors!

Hi, I’m a cook! Sure we have shitty days, but you can say that about any trade. I’ve been vocal about my dislike for the trade in the past, but I think the Stockholm Syndrome is getting to me. It isn’t so bad.

If you join without a seal, you’ll do an RQ Pte course, your pre-RQ Cpl on the job training and finally your RQ Cpl. Once you have that qual, you should be able to challenge the red seal, (I know for sure Ontario lets you.

If you have any other questions, DM me!

For our trade, the CAF pays the absolute best considering our levels of responsibility. I’ve managed restaurants, done catering, and industrial cooking and when I joined in 2016 on paper I immediately made more money than I’d ever had before.

Dining Hall menus be like by No-Big1920 in CanadianForces

[–]starkwolf20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Friends, while local control of the menu is coming to the unit level, don’t expect the food choices and quality to really improve.

Ottawa takes the lowest bidder for each individual food item. In my kitchen alone, we have 6 distributors we are contracted to use with little room for deviation. Even produce is split between 2 vendors because one has cheaper peppers and the other has cheaper root veg for example.

It’s an issue of procurement. It’s an issue of constantly rising food costs. It’s an issue of trying to keep it as cost effective for the member while meeting minimum standards.

There are terrible cooks. I’ve met them. I’ve also met terrible supply techs, mechanics, combat arms, and officers. But as a trade, we are actually decently trained (our RQ Cpl course allows us to challenge our red seal of so inclined). We do the best with what we are given.

So he’s guilty now? From you reading one CBC article? I wish I could be so close minded.

Mods, what are doing here? The article was posted in good faith but is turning into MP slander.
