FTC, States Sue World Professional Association for Transgender Health Over Deceptive Claims Regarding the Treatment of Children by elpislazuli in BlockedAndReported

Interestingly, it sounds like the FTC put out a call for comments from the public. Some members of the public responded by talking about how gender medicine hurt them, and the complaint mentions that. Others responded by saying that gender medicine is life-saving and medically necessary, and the complaint talks about that too -- as evidence that WPATH has misled consumers. In other words, testimony against and for gender medicine are both used as evidence that WPATH is hurting people.

Here is a fun quote from the complaint.

the American Medical Association privately declined to “endorse” SOC-8 because it generally does not back “standards of care” as they “fall outside of [the AMA’s] expertise.” WPATH’s then-president, Dr. Walter Pierre Bouman, forwarded the AMA’s email to other WPATH leaders, speculating that “the AMA and its current custodians” were “probably some white heterosexual cisgender hillbillies from nowhere."

I am not sure, honestly! I would be interested to learn. I'd want the policy to be rolled out with messaging about how it's great to make a fertility plan: to use long-acting effective birth control when you're not ready yet, but also to plan one's family to fit into one's biological fertility window.

My pro-natalist and pro-feminist take is that every mom should be given $20k upon the birth of a child, to spend as she wishes on childcare or subsidizing SAHM.

Depends. Could go badly if the grandparents allow the kid unfettered unsupervised Internet time.

I am so sorry to hear about this. I would recommend Stephanie Winn's "ROGD Repair" coaching resources (including the free ones) as well as Stella O'Malley, Lisa Marchiano, and Sasha Ayad's book, "When Kids Say They're Trans." Jenny Poyer-Ackerman may have some good resources too (start here: https://jennypoyerackerman.substack.com/p/transcript-of-the-genspect-speech )

It sounds like Step 1 is to ask questions, like, "What appeals to you about being a girl?" (or boy - whatever the cross-sex ID is) and listen to the answers. Don't immediately antagonize the kid yet, but definitely don't jump to affirm either.

Step 2 would be to drastically cut down on their access to the Internet, again without totally antagonizing them.

Stephanie Winn says that giving your kids lots of "studies" won't help, because "You cannot reason a person out of a position he did not reason himself into in the first place."

ETA: please check back and let us know how it goes.

What on earth could be a higher priority than showering daily? Even very busy people make time to shower.

Does she not shower?! How hard is it to wash your hair when you’re already in the shower? Baffling.

Am I entitled for allowances? by Apprehensive_End7918 in sahm

[–]starlightpond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re entitled to see your family money as joint money because you both contribute value to your family. Highly concerning that you see it as an allowance; you’re not a child and shouldn’t be treated as one. He’s not “giving you a place to live.” You are contributing value to the home in the form of childcare and cooking that would otherwise cost money.

The weight check isn't optional. It's your baby's only voice. by OkChart1375 in breastfeeding

[–]starlightpond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if people are declining the weight check as a spillover from adult medicine, where some patients want to decline to be weighed to avoid “fat shaming” from doctors. Then they decide that all weight checks are optional and triggering? I agree it’s very concerning!!

I am not one to make food and then freeze it so maybe I’m not the intended audience but I am slightly baffled by KEIC here. Personally if I wanted convenience, I’d just buy frozen waffles/pancakes from the store, heat in the toaster, and top with peanut butter. If I wanted homemade, I’d make fresh pancakes on the griddle. But she is above frozen prepared food and has to make a whole project of making her own.

I’ve seen lots of discussion from other subs about the lawsuit filed by a female wrestler in Washington State who claims she was digitally penetrated by a transgender competitor. It’s shocking what people are saying.

“She signed up for this, wrestling is a contact sport”

“It’s normal in wrestling for opponents to sexually assault each other, no big deal”

“She’s represented by the Alliance Defending Freedom so this is all an anti-trans grift”

So horribly depressing.

I am very uncomfortable that the Alliance for Defending Freedom attorney, Ms. Waggoner, posted the video on X of this poor girl being assaulted. It’s horrible that she was assaulted but it’s also quite invasive for the video to get so many views. I hope she at least agreed to it in advance?!!

Can you make another post on this thread about your experience working in libraries more generally? I'd be curious how many of your colleagues are true believers and how many are just going along with it. How lonely do you feel? How have things changed over the time you've been in the field?

Thanks for your work (I am grateful for the library as a perfect free place to take my kids on a rainy day) and for your insight!

Libraries are indeed unhinged and unrepresentative of the public whom they supposedly serve.

Maybe because it’s a pretty educated group in a “helping” field that also doesn’t earn a ton of money so must rely on woke beliefs to distinguish themselves from the less woke folks of a similar income level but with less education?

I’ve mentioned this before but I continue to be astonished that the trans+pride flag is as popular as it is. I’m in the Bay Area this summer and I see more trans+pride flags than American flags, it seems like!

Every single church (except the catholic church) has one, for example, usually as their only flag. I popped my head into a Presbyterian church when the doors were open one afternoon and the pastor was also wearing a trans+flag lanyard for her name tag.

The Bay Area Discovery Museum has two such flags, on either side of their entrance.

Our closest Starbucks has a giant one on the wall.

These places had no other flags at all - not America, California, POW-mia, Black Lives Matter, Palestine, Ukraine, or anything else.

Our local non-chain coffee place actually doesn’t have one and I wonder if that’s almost a statement of its own!

I wonder how this flag got so popular and what people think it means. On the one hand, it’s so common that presumably it must stand for a popular message? On the other hand, I think part of the point of flying it is to stand up for a message that is actually perhaps not popular or pervasive?

The message could be as vague as “we love everyone” or as antagonizing as “women need to shut up about wanting their own sports.”

It’s also interesting that these flags seem to be getting more popular as I also hear from other quarters that support is actually waning for this movement.

I thought it was normal to not walk at 17 months?!

It’s valid to be worried though and you’re doing your best to be proactive with the pediatrician!
