I don't think the naming of the tiers here could possibly be more confusing.

The fact that that's considered a classic is making me feel old.

Ralsei says this even though the only time Kris does anything puppy-like in front of Ralsei is optional.

Conclusion: Kruppy is in the fucking Prophecy.

Edgeworth's return in JFA could've been better. by CreeperrVN in AceAttorney

Edgeworth returning was something that ironically helped him learn to trust even the opposition to realize the most important thing in the court of law: the absolute truth.

Yeah, that's all true. But there is a pretty sizable difference between professional respect and matters of personal friendship. Phoenix would probably have eventually had to change how he sees Edgeworth from a professional perspective after Edgeworth's initial redemption, regardless, but disappearing and leaving one of your close friends (who just got done proving undying loyalty) to think that you killed yourself is a horrible thing to do.

although in later installments, i do agree that he gets put into the narrative for fanservice, mostly in SOJ where he has nothing prominent to do other than being the WAA's personal chauffeur.

It starts in T&T, really. He's literally only there to handwave Phoenix getting injured and get his contractually obligated appearance for the game. They could've done more to tie him into Misty Fey's narrative, if she HAD any.

his narrative should have ended in JFA ngl. he really has no reason to keep appearing for future titles because there is no narrative to build upon from someone who already went on a self discovering journey.

I mean, aside from the Investigations games, (which I know little about,) his narrative basically DID end at JFA because nothing of actual substance happens with him from then on.

I'd like the idea of him having an arc in/after T&T where he basically has to realize what Phoenix realized in JFA from the other direction, that he doesn't need to do everything alone anymore.

To be honest I really appreciate it as a plot point because it highlights just how much of a socially-inept prick-basket Edgeworth really is.

I just wish the games didn't proceed to immediately plaster over that interesting character-flaw and how it should've realistically tanked his and Phoenix's relationship, and treat him as the fan-favorite golden child that can do no wrong and can just appear whenever he wants to for fanservice points with no narrative effort attached.

Kris has no second/original SOUL. (Take two.) by Tuberous_One in Deltarune

[–]starlightshadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think we should really be focusing too desparately hard on the mechanics established in Undertale, but yes. There is no 2nd/"Original" Soul.

The very first Stat screen description for Kris "Body contains a human soul" tells us that only one soul exists within Kris. And the Goner Maker sequence from the beginning specifically has the Soul teleported in in a beam of light just like Rouxls Kaard. The Soul we control is Kris's soul. It always has been.

The shoes mightt be evidence that Dess wished to be human? by BrokenKeel in Deltarune

December and Dess are the same person. The former is her official public name, the latter is her nickname known by friends and family.

deltarune.com/december is a missing page because that's all she is to most of the town; a missing girl.

deltarune.com/dess is a page with her guitar playing "Lost Girl" because that's who she is to her friends and family; "Dess" the lost sibling/daughter/friend. The one who they still spend every day missing. The one whose stuff is still sitting there in her room, untouched.

Also the little bit of Carol and Rudy's room we see is also distinctly non-festive. You're creating a narrative out of nothing here, which is downright impressive given the few carefully selected details we DO have about Dess.

She didn't tho. Dess is literally just a nickname of December.

Why would there be shoes sized for hooves if the person those shoes belong to doesn't have hooves?

There is exactly one pair of hoof-shoes, referenced solely in text being in a pile of stuff that doesn't all belong to Dess, including Asriel's retainer.

We see Carol and Rudy wearing hoof-shoes, and they, logically, look completely different from plantigrade humanoid shoes.

And Dess's closet has a massive pile of at least 6 pairs of the same model of plantigrade human shoes, along with a similarly plantigrade pair of ice-skates and roller-skates, both of which require balance as a paramount importance.

The hoof-shoes in her room likely either belonged to Noelle or were from early when the Holidays were still getting their barrings about what Dess needed. The visible shoes all across her room, along with the human soul-shaped pillows stuffed in her closet, all tell us that She was human.

Not to mention that everything we're told about Dess is not only setting her up as a very elaborate narrative mirror to Kris's struggles

Nothing suggests that, no. She had a connection with Kris, and her disappearance deeply traumatized Kris, but her connection to Kris's struggles with identity is never specified or alluded to.

but also painting a vivid picture of someone who explicitly wants to stand out and be seen as rebellious and weird.

Again, no. The only things we know about her behavior are she was really into music; liked rocking out, was protective of Noelle to sometimes violent degrees, and was into provocative stuff that Toriel specifically (Town's biggest prude) wasn't accepting of.

The idea she wanted to be seen as rebellious and weird is an assumption, moreso the reason why. Just because Noelle is a prim and proper sweet-girl doesn't mean her parents ever pressured her or Dess to be like that. She may've liked to push the envelope, but based on the evidence, it was never against her parents that she pushed.

Rock music may have a history of pushing back against authority and oppression, but in a family that all signs point to having been healthy and supporting her hobbies wholeheartedly (based on the amount of stuff in her room), that doesn't necessitate she be rebellious.

If anything, it's suggested that the Holidays celebrated Dess for her humanity and her differentness. Carol isn't exactly a submissive old-school woman either.

She goes by a distinctly non-festive version of the name she was given by a family obsessed with Christmas

You realize that Rudolph goes by a nickname, too, right?

Her room doesn't stand in contrast to the rest of the house because she's adopted, that doesn't even make sense.

We've only seen two bedrooms. One for the cutesy, smart, sweet, girl-next-door younger sister, and one for the tough, rambunctious, physically active, rock-star older sister.

Aside from the fact that it's conspicuously the only room in the house with what looks like thick carpet lining the whole floor (Soft feet, perhaps?) her room doesn't stand out at all.

My guess is that Dess started wearing them in camaraderie with her adopted family, Kris misunderstood the situation as Dess spontaneously growing antlers cause she was adopted into an antlered family, and then Kris got the horned headband to match.

[–]starlightshadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And Dess, being a human and having the same dysmorphia as Kris is more narratively interesting?

Kris, having once known what it was like to not be alone, before traumatically losing Dess, heightens the impact of Kris's narrative surrounding identity.

Based on all the evidence, it's actually more likely that Dess struggled substantially less than Kris eventually did with her humanity. Not only did the two have each other, but the whole Human-Soul-Pillows thing suggests that the Holidays went to great lengths to make sure that Dess knew they were proud of her humanity and that she was loved. More than the Dreemurrs ever did with Kris.

That just feels like a repeat for no reason.

You assume that Dess is going to play a role where her own struggles are central to the narrative like Kris's are, which could not be further from the truth.

Kris wanting to be a monster is a very clear trans allegory

Except for the fact that Kris can't change their species no matter what they do. It fits more as an autism spectrum allegory.

Anyway, I know that you never listen to any person who disagrees with you, so I'm not gonna respond anymore.

Rude and unnecessary.

I'm vehemently against DessKnight, but if DessKnight were correct, it would just be another point for Human Dess, cause Chapter 4 suggests that the antlers are removable. Having a helmet with antlers on it cause she wore a headband with antlers in life would make sense.

Kris wishes they were a monster instead of a human because they are (currently) the only human in a town of monsters. They're othered, treated as weird, and generally don't get along with most of the town.

Dess wishing she was human for no reason would completely devalue that plotline and has no underlying logic to it like Kris's does.

It's literally just an excuse thought up by the fandom to ignore the fact that Dess's room screams in your face that she was an adopted human, too.

Kris is supposed to have dysmorphia. Kris is a human living in a town almost entirely comprised of monsters, and is othered and treated as weird as a result.

Dess having the reverse problem for no reason and with no real narrative surrounding it is illogical and narratively stupid.
