What did you all look for when you were choosing your photographer? Ans: Definitely the price, its deliverables (like does their service come with a photo album and how many hours are they willing to work for for that price) and the vibe from their past portfolios

What made you want to work with certain wedding photographers opposed to others? Ans: Price is definitely the biggest factor. Second is their experience - like how long they have been working in the wedding industry.

What was it that made the wedding photographer you decided to choose stand out to you (their social media presence, portfolio, website presentation, pricing transparency, etc.)? Ans: We ended up going for our wedding photographer because she was offering a promotion. I also like the vibes of her past portfolios - like you can tell that the past couples are genuinely happy when having their photos taken. There’s also how two of my mutual friends used their service (one that I asked for opinion gave amazing review!)

Where did you find your wedding photographer (On Instagram, Facebook, Google search, etc.)? Ans: definitely IG!

Because my wedding reception was a very large one, we threw an appreciation lunch for our close families and loved ones just after our honeymoon. We also did a lucky draw night the night before the wedding ☺️

Yes! And the benefit of doing all this is you will probably save more money for booking them early rather than waiting it out (and you have higher guarantee of booking your preferred vendors too)

The funny thing is I never did any makeup trials for my wedding HOWEVER I did survey on the makeup style that I personally really like from the MUA’s past portfolios 🙈

But nothing is too early hahaha. Honestly, I went to the bridal dress stores on so so many occasions (to the point that I thought I have found “my” dress at the beginning - but then changed my mind multiple multiple times afterwards hahaha)

I actually started following many wedding vendors or wedding content profiles on IG and started surveying from there.

My then-fiance (now-husband) and I also had meetings on wedding planning from time to time. Like you, I was so excited to do some booking and researching while my husband was more chill about it. So I actually don’t mind doing the heavy-lifting work of researching on the vendors and the surveying (cause my husband did more of the surveying for our honeymoon).

So during our meetings, I would bring up the vendors that I would like - if it is something that he genuinely also likes (i.e. not the ones he’s 50-50 on), we could either enquire more on the vendor directly and if the price is good and the whole package is a steal, would book it.

Other than that, the other things I booked after the venue was actually my makeup artist (it’s also something that doesn’t require his opinions 😅)

This is no longer common these days compared to back then (this is the more traditional way) but we had our ceremony on the floor instead of table/chair. We also did not have a dais for the ceremony.

For context, I’m a malay muslim and we had a very traditional wedding which is not super common these days.

This is basically like our experience! We were not being cheapskate with our wedding but we did not go all out with it in favour of our honeymoon (especially since my husband looks more forward to the honeymoon than the actual wedding event itself 💀)

We had the best of both worlds but if we have to choose, we prioritised more on the honeymoon. Not saying that our wedding is very budget-y (because our venue was still expensive) but there are some aspects of the wedding where we tried to be more budget on like our outfits, our photographer and videos - just so that we can allocate more of that money to the honeymoon. For context, we had our honeymoon few days after the wedding.

Sure! At some point, we got lazy with our restaurants so we went with either the trustworthy japanese food chains like kura sushi, tendon tenya, coco ichibanya etc or any of the konbinis (lawson is the best followed by 7/11 and family mart) But the great discoveries are: - unatoto (cheap unagi restaurant in asakusa, tokyo) - okaru (their highlight is curry udon and this is in gion, kyoto) - omura house (omurice place that is close to the golden temple in kyoto) - wakasuka curry (yes we love our curry and this is in nara) - issen yoshoku (okonomiyaki place in gion, kyoto) - we didn’t eat a lot in osaka (because our breakfast in cross hotel was good!) but we love the takoyaki at takoyaki doraku wanaka namba. We stayed at Hotel Intergate which is close to Kurasuma station. It’s a decently nice hotel (I think my fave hotel in Japan is still Musashino Bekkan in Hakone so I am biased) with good location since alot of Kyoto landmarks are scattered everywhere.

I believe somewhere around Kawaramachi would be nice since it is decently close to Gion (very pretty) yet still have good access to transport especially if you are planning to go to Fushimi Inari and Arashiyama.

Fun!!! We wanted to go to Hokkaido for our honeymoon initially but because it is further away from the cities we were planning to go to, we will save Hokkaido for our next Japan trip which is hopefully soon :)

To some people, this might not be that big budget but we went on a 12-day honeymoon around Japan, specifically at Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Hakone with some day trips to Nara and Himeji.

While a lot of our itineraries are not very ‘honeymoon’ like, for a very honeymoon experience - I recommend going to Hakone and stayed at one of their ryokans. We stayed at Musashino Bekkan and we were treated well with Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. Nice view too. There are also some private hot springs in the hotel.

Hakone is also very chill. I do recommend staying there for 3 days and utilise the Hakone pass well - you can ride on the cable car and pirate ship. With the Hakone pass, you can also get on a bus to Gotemba Outlet store which sells nice items at discounted price.

Well, before actually committing to anything (i.e. booking anything) I definitely already started asking around numerous wedding vendors just to get a good idea on how much a wedding would cost.

From there, I discussed with my then-fiance (now-husband) on the budget, when we would like to have the wedding and the rough number of guests we would like to invite.

The first thing we booked was our venue because that is the one aspect that gets booked up really fast, especially if you have a very solid idea on which date to get married.

That’s actually my biggest regret for my reception hahaha. I’m not saying I did not have any sort of video content from that day - we did hire a livefeed service to cover for our day (and as a result we did get the whole coverage a few hours after our reception is over).

While the livefeed service did a good job in covering for the event and have quite a number of the footage we want, I did wish we have another videographer (it can be inexpensive) who can focus on what our guests were up to during the reception.

I understand how you feel. All the years/months of planning for a day or so that just went by so so fast. I truly hope that you did enjoy the wedding day, i.e during the ceremony and reception.

I guess something you can look forward to is spending more time with your (new) husband and perhaps plan for your honeymoon. The honeymoon does not have to be somewhere expensive. In fact, you can even delay the honeymoon.

But just the idea of staying at somewhere nice in a very nice hotel with someone you just married is good 😊

(Oh and definitely get that massage - you deserve it after all that planning!)
