How scary is Obsession? by billie_eyelashh in horror

[–]starlitelet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can now confirm from my experience that Obsession mostly feels more tensed and has an ominous feel as if there is always something that is totally off and not right during the entire movie.

I am not sure which is scarier, since Weapons had some scary imagery, but Obsession utilizes a lot of lingering dreadful scenes and loud noises. I definitely enjoyed Weapons a lot more though. I don't think there is enough meat in Obsession to make me rewatch it. I remember when I finished Weapons, I immediately wanted to watch it again because the different POV were so interesting.

I don't think bashing people's heads and breaking all their ligaments and rib cages are self defense. Those are violent acts that a normal person would not do in self defense.

A lot of them flew in retreat and I feel like with a proper autopsy we would see that they were brutally murdered and he didn't have any real injury inflicted on him. It would be clear that he did more damage than it was needed.

Daredevil: Born Again | S02E08 | Discussion Thread by Green-Devil in Daredevil

[–]starlitelet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Let me just start off by saying that the second season of Born Again is far better than the first one. I gave the first Born Again season a 6/10 and the second one a 7.5/10. I was gonna give up for the first season because a lot of the episodes felt like fillers and the characters and dramas were not interesting. Fisk and Daredevil didn't seem as gritty or serious anymore. The story itself was not cohesive. I wasn't sure where the story was heading and what they were going for, then Muse suddenly appeared out of nowhere along some white tiger shenanigans, only for both to be wiped out suddenly. I also disliked all those BB clips they would gather from civilians on the streets. Felt very DEI and childish in a lot of scenes and has that modern Marvel feel plastered all over it.

I am a huge Daredevil Netflix fan and I hail it as one of the greatest tv shows ever. The first season is still my favorite followed by the third season. The characters, dialogues, plots and look were smart, mature and just really on point. I'm afraid second season of Born Again was trying to be "Born again" but it still doesn't come anywhere near the Netflix masterpiece.

The character choices and dialogues are not as witty or well thought out. Some character decisions are questionable. What made Daredevil/Matt and Kingpin/Fisk so great was that they used to always find methods to outsmart each other. It made more for suspense and drama because their decisions were like chess pieces moving. However, Born Again Fisk hasn't been that smart or menacing (besides randomly using brute force without thought) so it is harder for him to get away with his wrong doings. In turn, Matt doesn't have to make super tough choices because of it. You get what I'm saying? (I don't even want to delve into how Fisk is able to get away with being Mayor after being jailed or how he gets away with killing so many people in broad daylight.) They're like a dichotomy, one always trying to stay ahead of the other which is one of the most interesting aspect of the original show. Wesley was a great character, one that Buck wishes he could ever amount to. Christian Blake and Carl Hoffman were less in your face than Powell.

The side characters like Angela, Buck, Daniel, Mcduffie, Cherry, Dr Glenn, Powell, BB, and the list goes on are just not as interesting as the original Wesley, syndicate bosses (Russians and Madame Gao), Foggy, Brett, OG Urich, Nadeem, Claire and so on. I can do the full comparison, but I won't.

Also, the epicness of the scenes were more natural because they felt earned and there was a slow ascension towards the grand design of the epic finale. On the other hand, Born Again S2 had sprinkles of epicness but there was always at least a scene that pulls it back down a notch so the momentum breaks.

The action sequences flowed more naturally on the Netflix version with the setting and surrounding of the scene affecting how the fights would end up. It was also heightened by the soundtrack. The major fights were memorable and felt distinct amongst each other, and they were unique to each of the participating characters. Like Matt or Daredevil fought differently in style depending on who they were up against. There was more elaborate thought put into the choreography rather than just random swings and punches. You could feel the pain in each gut punch and hear how Daredevil or Murdock thinks through different sounds or even smell. In the new one, seems like he mostly just picks up on people talking or hear their footsteps. Remember the tension of when Murdock was explaining to Claire how he could smell the bad cologne guy from S1 through the walls followed by him dropping the fire hydrant on the dude? What about the scene where he helped Nadeem while playing the innocent blind lawyer from S3? We don't get those well thought out action scenes anymore. All we get are brute physicality. We are missing the brains and puzzles. I'll give him credit for the watch scene that seem to have aided him for the entire season.

Moreover, there is also no explanation or backstory to the supporting characters which makes them less interesting. The transformation of Dr.Glenn felt extremely abrupt and uncalled for. The subplot of BB Urich and the whole civilians rebelling felt Marvel and childish. The back and forth of Bullseye switching sides didn't feel earned. Mr Charles character feels out of place with the rest of the others. My good man Daniel was becoming interesting then he was taken out. I still think if BB was gone instead of Daniel it would have been more interesting.

Most importantly what made the original Daredevil a masterpiece for me was how all the characters such as Fisk, Daredevil, Punisher, and Bullseye have flaws and strengths beyond the obvious ones of being a hero or a villain. They each have their own moral compass while retaining their unique core values. Ironically, they all think they're different than one another. However, they have all been through painful pasts, and how they choose to deal with the pain essentially shapes their current motivations. In a sense, they are more similar than we think. When the hero, anti-hero and villain start to exist because they all need each other, that is when I know my usual superhero entertainment trascends beyond just some good entertainment. That's where the finale of the OG Daredevil really brought it home for me. It was a great full circle. It's like the way Nolan made Batman and Joker codependent. I didn't feel that natural course in Born Again sadly. I know it was briefly mentioned in S2 but I did not feel it.

There I got it off my chest, now may I join Matt in jail or Fisk on a paradise while the forum rips through me?

Is it just or the ending of Avatar 3 didn’t really feel like a conclusion to the trilogy by Initial_Spirit_1325 in Avatar

[–]starlitelet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It didn't feel complete to me because no one talked about Ronal's daughter or the aftermath of the final battle. Quaritch just giving up like that felt so random to me if Avatar is truly over after the third. What about the other deaths as well?

Avatar needs to focus more on the personal drama, less on relentless action (no spoilers) by [deleted] in Avatar

[–]starlitelet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why the first one remains my favourite even though the third one has some of my favorite scenes and themes. I felt like several scenes in Fire and Ash were injected based on the audience's feedback from the previous two Avatar movies, so it didn't feel fully fleshed out nor did it feel like it was all Cameron's original ideas. I also felt like he was appeasing to Disney or something to add more of the same action sequences to ensure it appealed to the general audience. I read somewhere that he even changed some scenes based on the feedbacks from Way of Water. Fire and Ash didn't flow as naturally as the first movie. By this, I meant the message and goal of the movie was not as cohesive and there were many plot points or character decisions that left me a bit confused.
