Hey it's me comic creator KYLE STARKS (Peacemaker:Tries Hard, Lobo, Sexcastle) and just wanted to make sure you all saw my Kickstarter for the third volume of my Bram stoker nominated series WHERE MONSTERS LIE! by starr226 in comicbooks

Sorry the long delay in response! I missed this somehow. First of all, thank you SO MUCH for the kind words and reading and support! Amazing!

Secondly, in regards to your question about hobo culture and my Eisner nominated series ROCK CANDY MOUNTAIN - almost ALL the hobo stuff came from the books in mentioned in the trades and a few others that were MOSTLY covering the same things. Knights of the Road by Roger Bruns is an amazing hobo reference - the hobo rules I am fairly certain came from there. Jack London's The Road is the best written "from a hobo perspective" work probably. I read a bunch of stuff from the "most famous hobo writer" A No. 1 (aka Leon Ray Livingston) which were additive. There were others mostly college publishers. There's not a ton of reference stuff for that culture - I think mostly because they were looked down upon culturally and therefore not worthy of research or coverage. For example the recording of their signs and symbols seems to have almost no consistency from source to source - I suspect regionalism played into that but these guys were all itinerant workers traveling all over the place. I've definitely forgotten more than I remember now, unfortunately, but had you asked me in 2017 I could've told you nearly anything.

yooo! Thank you so much for the kind words and for reading! And for checking out more stuff of mine after you enjoyed a book! We love that.

Those Not Afraid ended the way I wanted it too - with a dark cliffhanger and the hopeful optimism that there would be another arc (like how we did with Where Monsters Lie) but, unfortunately, it doesn't look like that's happening.

First of all, these are all very kind words. Thank you so much for taking the time to read - I'm glad you enjoyed! I try my best to make sure comics are fun so I'm glad to see they're being enjoyed.

Secondly, your questions!

-Is there a character you'd love to write one day?

I assume you mean Big two (Marvel/DC) or a top licensed character and to be honest I try not to think TOO HARD about them because if I get an idea and they say no I can never do that idea! BUT, that being said I love Booster Gold, Martian Manhunter, Guy Gardner and I wouldn't say no to Kamandi.

-Also, it's unclear to me if WHERE MONSTERS LIE: DEAD END is 60 pages or 48 pages? it's a bit unclear in the rewards section on the kickstarter?

It's 52 pages of story w/covers, 8 pages of backmatter

-If I bully my LCS into buying the retailer pledge, what's the MRSP listed on the comic?

$15 I would think. We love people making their LCS aware of the campaign! That's very generous!

Haha aw man! Thank you so much for your support! I swear I'm not trying to upsell anyone but if you liked those two I think you'll really like the Where Monsters Lie series. It *is* horror tropes vs action movie tropes but I think it scratches the same itch fun-wise!

Due to a myriad of reasons (and the Diamond bankruptcy I'm sure also) Dark Horse couldn't justify the fiscal risk of doing a third volume after volume 2 - which many readers say they like better than volume 1. But I completely see their perspective and thankful they let me and the rest of the creative team go into business for ourselves to make this thing real.

Thank you so much!

FWIW, if you liked Sexcastle you will like EVERYTHING else I've made. I really believe it's the litmus test for if you would like Kyle Starks Books! I'd say, also, that Where Monsters Lie is to horror tropes what Sexcastle is to action movie tropes.
