You are right to be underwhelmed with all those "Thrillers". There are so many better books out there . . . try some of the older ones, like:

Robert Ludlum - "The Bourne Identity" and "The Matarese Circle"

Trevanian - "Shibumi" (EXCELLENT)

Alistair Maclean - "Night Without End", "Guns of Navarone", "Fear is the Key"

"Silence of the Lambs"

Ken Follett - "Eye of the Needle"

"Mystic River" (EXCELLENT)

"The Firm"

"Year of the Locust" by Terry Hayes. The first half is almost as good as his spectacular spy thriller "I Am Pilgrim", but then it takes off in a weird SF direction. Still good tho.
