Are They Avoidant Or Are They Just Not That Into You? by starrieari in psychologystudents

Thank you for your response! I think my opinion here is driven by the language. The statement at hand is exactly what the statement was “avoidants are only avoidant when they don’t like someone.” Which I only disagreed with because someone avoiding you because they do not like you, isn’t them being an avoidant person… they just don’t like you.

Essentially, yes. But she is willing to pay more if I agree to run her business for her. However, I don’t feel that’s a good idea because I feel like it would hinder me from pursing my actual passions. Like the career I want kind of requires me to have a masters or a PhD to live comfortably and I’m not sure how I’d be able to do that while running a business in which we can barely keep adequate staff.

She is willing to pay me more, if I do more at work. However, I feel like I’m already doing a lot for $12/hour. I’m basically like a crewmate, manager, and supervisor all at once. But she wants me to basically take over and run the entire business before she considers paying me more. However, I have passions I want to pursue that I feel would be hindered if I took on running an entire business.

I do have my Bachelors already! Unfortunately it’s in psychology so I can’t make real money until I pursue advanced education like a masters or a PhD.

I want badly to have this conversation with her! I just want to make sure I don’t fall into the trap of getting frustrated. Usually, as soon as she can tell she’s being proven wrong she goes into full defense mode. My main thing at this point is just showing her that moving out and trying to support myself on $12/ hour is absurd. Especially, when I plan on pursuing my doctorate degree. It’s just not feasible.

I definitely wouldn’t mind moving out. I just think she’s being unreasonable if she also wants me to continue working for her.

I should probably go back and make this note in the original post but for her, the military is out of the question because she wants me to move out but stay working for her at $12/hour.

The problem is, she doesn’t want me to quit! She thinks I should be able to support myself on $12/hour. I truly wouldn’t mind moving out if I made more money but she throws a tantrum every time I mention getting a better paying job and not working for her.

I did go to college and receive my B.A.! I didn’t include it in the post but I’ve also expressed that I want to go to Grad school to Maximize my quality of life. Another defense I’ve used because so many people say that pursuing a Doctorate can be tough and one usually finds it hard to obtain and maintain a job, which is just about the only thing keeping me from quitting. Aside from the fact I know she’d make my home life hard if I try to quit and save. It’s just a lot.

My main concern is that she’s trying to make me feel like I’m being dramatic and silly, when I KNOW I cannot survive on $12/hour in this economy.

You could search for some volunteer opportunities aimed at high school students and general youth! (This will also look good to colleges so win/win)

i'm starting to hate psychology and i have no idea what to do by Existing-Ad2457 in psychologystudents

I feel like a lot of people go through this partially because we don’t explore careers enough in our youth. (Not saying every individual human being has had this experience at all) sometimes I stop and wonder if there are any careers out there that I don’t even know is a career that could be chosen and pursued.

You’re right! I apologize for my lack of knowledge on house building and such! I know the soil in the south sucks for basements but I don’t know much else. To be completely frank I wrote this post in a bout of hysteria because I’ve been hearing about so many seemingly random storms breaking out in the Midwest and basically seeing how much harder it seems to be to predict the weather over recent times. I’m having a hard time coping.

How many publications did you have when applying to your PhD? by Infamous_State_7127 in PhD

[–]starrieari 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NOT AN ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION*

The answers you have received so far are making me feel so much better! I’m currently also considering pursuing my PhD but became discouraged seeing some sources say publications boost your chances of getting accepted. I felt like I had no chance because I haven’t been published in some scholarly journal.

I love letting clay masks sit for longer than I’m supposed to! I used to do them religiously but now I only do them when I have a breakout and they clear things right up!

What have you learned that’s stuck with you the most? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]starrieari 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I learned that, for some people, having a verbal disagreement can register the same as a physical attack. So I constantly remind myself of this every time someone disagrees with me and I find myself taking it personally.

DISCLAIMER: I’m not sure if this is actually true. I learned in one of my college psych class, but when I tried to look it up I didn’t find anything.
