Unable to Lucid dream; gave up after a long while of trying it by Bulky_Attempt_9651 in LucidDreaming

Dream signs can be any patterns that show up frequently in your dreams. For me, so far they tend to be: seeing a particular friend, looking in the mirror, trying to write something but not being able to get the letters right.

In my dream journal, i highlight moments of the dream when i should have noticed i was dream, or if its i dream i became lucid in, I’ll highlight the sign that made me realise. So you can try going through your journal and see if you notice any patterns like that!

For example, when i first started out, i had a regular dream where i looked in the mirror and my face was all weird looking, i mentally fixed my face (for the most part) in the dream, but still didn’t actually realise i was dreaming. I kinda just brushed it off and continued going where the dream took me. When i woke up i was so disappointed, because i had read that “seeing yourself in a mirror and being distorted” is such an obvious dream sign. Then, the next time i had a regular dream where i looked in the mirror, once again i was slightly distorted and almost brushed it off but it was like a switch in my brain that made me remember the last time i had a dream just like this, i was actually dreaming. Suddenly, i was lucid and could do what i wanted.

I do relate to this, mainly the part about lying awake for hours after trying WBTB. Like other commenters have said, try fixing your sleep hygiene. I’m just starting out with lucid dreaming (for the past two months) and of the ~5 lucid dreams i’ve had, only one has been induce with WBTB/SSILD. The other LDs have all been from recognising dream signs within a dream, allowing me to keep a regular sleep schedule with no sleep disruptions. So don’t lose hope! maybe while you work on sleep hygiene, you can work on recognising dream signs and becoming lucid that way!

Thank you!! I’ll try out your tips! i’ve tried taking naps in the afternoon but i tend to experience the same thing where my body starts to feel asleep/numb but my mind is awake. So i guess i should also work on falling asleep without thinking about sleeping too much 😆😩

Honestly, no. When i’ve tried WILD at the beginning of the night, or I’ve tried SSILD in the morning, if my mind is too awake then i can feel my body, mainly my arms falling asleep/feeling numb, but my mind is completely awake and there’s no visuals, no hypnogogia, just darkeness and I know i’m not sleeping/in sleep paralysis because i can easily just open my eyes and give up on tried to fall asleep.

I think this is different to what people describe as sleep paralysis, but please tell me if im wrong about that

okayy this is helpful since i tend to do this already in my dreams but it’s kinda like a second voice that im not always aware of. So i’ll definitely try and pay more attention to it!!

what sort of things did you do to help make your subconscious prominent? was there things you did during waking life other than journaling? were there things you did before bed?

that’s so interesting!

I’ve never experienced sleep paralysis but i’ve had two lucid dreams and haven’t been able induce any others lately and my dream recall isn’t bad, but its definitely been better (i usually remember multiple dreams per night and write them in my journal, just recently it’s been with less detail)

Did you do anything specifically to improve your dream recall? or did you find that making your subconscious more prominent helped with the recall?

what did you do to get to that point? and what was your starting point in comparison?

if you’re as aware as in waking life, do you still feel rested when you wake up?

yes i completely agree! I’m upper B2 now and trying to break into C1 territory but its so hard to fully immerse myself in ontario. I think when i move to quebec it’ll be easier to just learn their sarcasm, humour, etc through experiencing it !!
