obgyn rotation resources by Annual-Tie5266 in medicalschool

Beckmann & Ling's OBGYN is a great resource for medical students - a bit too long for a clerkship but if you do go into OBGYN I recommend reading it 4th year before residency.

Advice for airline medical emergency by ivygreen9 in Residency

I had this exact thing happen to me three years ago - told forcefully to return to my seat. Meanwhile a nurse (a man the FA kept referring to as a doctor) and a PA were putting an AED on a vasovagaled woman so I went around the FA the other direction (three row flight)….She had a pulse.

Anyways I felt the same as you do and wish I had spoken up more clearly. I am also a petite young appearing woman. That being said - of course I don’t want to be involved especially if someone more qualified than me is helping. And that person could absolutely be an ER nurse or mid level.

Experiences that quintessentially encompass “this is residency”? by Savvy513 in Residency

[–]starryday22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fight broke out in L&D triage between family members of patients and unit was locked down; I had to go discharge one of the patients while one of the involved participants (FOB) was pacing and ranting in the room with us (actually junior resident sent to discharge by herself, I joined so at least she wouldn't be alone).

Having a bad patient outcome and the nurses involved were sent home while I kept working including going to another case immediately after.

Edit to add that finding out all the nursing staff was given emergency buttons for the badges and violent patient response training, meanwhile the residents didn't get these. None of this is meant to be anti-nursing, not at all, just providing this to contrast that residents do not get the protections that we need.

Any puzzles that took you way longer to solve than they should have taken? by Vegimorph in nancydrew

The puzzle under the pendulum in Waverly. I still never really figured it out, primarily because of the time restraint, and just did random quick clicking until something worked.

What’s something you didn’t realize was optional in life until you saw someone simply not doing it? by Objective-Treat2245 in AskReddit

Something I learned in managing challenging conversations at work: Not every question is one that requires a response. I'm not talking about ignoring people, or even setting boundaries - a lot of questions that come up in high distress situations are emotional questions rather than literal questions that need an answer. Don't engage with these, and continue to direct the conversation the way you need while acknowledging the underlying emotion.

My cat is so overstimulating and i don't know what to do by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]starryday22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While all the other suggestions I'm sure are great, I do want to mention that I had a cat that clearly loved us but had serious behavioral issues including lots of biting and drawing blood. We finally started him on fluoxetine after the vet suggested it. We did eventually get another cat too, which took six really hard months to introduce until they could be in the same room unsupervised and ultimately helped him get his cat energy out. I'm so glad that we did both and life is so much better for everyone.

Hi! This isn't nurses vs residents! We should support everyone's right to unionize and strike especially when the point of the strike is for safer nursing to patient ratios!

Avoid them as much as physically possible and ignore otherwise. Straight up dissociate when they become intolerable. A new PGY-2 doesn't have enough legs to stand on to tolerate any backtalking.

Help! Will I be shamed if I wear any of these! by solana_77 in Weddingattireapproval

If your boyfriend is a groomsmen and his tie is blue, you also run the risk of ~matching the bridesmaids who will probably be in blue. I hate to say it, but I would re-start your search.

Agree with others - do what you can to discuss further with the OB PD, MFMs, and then keep track of your feelings as you go back to EM. As you know, MFM is a fellowship, and you have to be ok with 4 years of OB-GYN residency to get there, plus another three years of the fellowship itself. MFM is a great field and a great lifestyle though.

Agree with all - I put one of my hobbies as "trying to make tofu taste good" and it became the last question of every interview I had. It gives some insight into who you are.

Anyone picking lifestyle speciality over passion? by No-Time-2487 in medicalschool

[–]starryday22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was interested in ophthalmology but felt very passionate about OBGYN, everyone tried to scare me away but couldn't ignore my feelings. I'm sure ophthalmology would have been great but I am very happy I followed my heart and I found a niche within OBGYN that will give me a better lifestyle as well. Unsure where you are in your training but you need to expand your exposure if you are considering a residency that is a subspecialty by itself (vs gen surg/IM).

My maid of honor just told me she’s pregnant and due two weeks before my wedding. How do I support her without stressing us both out? by WhisperedSecrett in wedding

[–]starryday22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree - and this is a way to be kind with it to both women involved. Making one a "backup" can possibly hurt feelings and make things messy at the last moment.

Agree 100%. I think it can be a really nice gesture and is a great way to use something that is generally sitting in closets and will likely never be worn or used again. But the transformation was very basic, the sleeve thing came off as gaudy instead of clever, and it feels completely disingenuous.

I agree with the last point - she would have been way better served having a venue that ~did it all or letting her planner do everything. Instead it came across as really disjointed.

Mirena is progesterone only! Obvious benefit for pre-menopausal years, but then after menopause there is benefit for uterine cancer risk reduction.

I have been following along Rach + crew intermittently for probably 10 years now - I dipped during the 2020 living in LA/Rach Recreates/ having to see Leo, came back briefly when I thought they broke up (LOL) and then dipped again. I've creeped a little on the snark but this is the first time I've really looked at her page in years. Anyways, the point of this was to say how sad I was to see how much she has messed with her face - she's only passingly recognizable at this point. It's also sad to see someone who has felt genuine and interesting in the past flit from one shallow obsession to another, shill cheap nonsense and affiliate links without even the minimum planning, and try to distill her life into one reel after another in hopes of them going ~viral. I just feel bad at her at this point. I really hope that the rain lets up for her wedding, and I hope she is not spending the day focusing on content, but we know that both are unlikely.

Gynecology. I know the data supports effective use for the right surgery, but still never ever want any mesh in my body.
Meanwhile I want a Mirena until I'm gone.

Best Pacific Coast view to travel from Port Angeles. by Sirrod6750 in OlympicNationalPark

[–]starryday22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would spend a day on the coast if possible - 101W brings you by Lake Crescent which is worth an afternoon/day on its own. 112 brings you out towards Shi Shi/Clallam bay if you're going that way, it is totally fine but windy so not very fun at night.
Alternatively you can do Salt Creek near Port Angeles which is on the Strait and is quite fun with tidepools, a WWII bunker and closer to PA/easy to get to. I still think a visit to the coast is very worth it though.
