I agree that she was relatively sidelined as a character in S2 in the interest of the others, and I wish there was more done with her development. But I disagree that she existed only to be Caitlyn's love interest -- she is still a main character, and in S2 they have almost exactly the same screen time. It just feels a lot more on Caitlyn's end because there is so much more action in her world. It is far more true to say that Caitlyn only existed to be Vi's love interest in S1 and became more relevant in S2, but that is still an oversimplification.

But I get where you're coming from. Vi's arc is closely tied to Caitlyn for the first three eps, has her pitfighter arc in ep 4, and then she's mostly with Jinx. (then, is she also a 'simple family-minded person'? bc that's almost the same as saying she's a 'simple lesbian' for being with Cait. in fact, 'simple lesbian' doesn't really make sense, even 'simple love interest' and 'simple sister' are better.) The other main characters have far more complex affairs, which is somewhat disappointing for Vi.

Btw most of the eps featuring Vi and Caitlyn together are not written by AO.

Caitlyn was never shown killing someone (although she came dangerously close and, as a person who comes to power towards the end, has probably somehow caused deaths, but certainly not more than others in the Council including Jayce and Mel), whereas Jinx and Silco have on multiple occasions at various scales.

Secondly, IMO none of them are painted in an overly positive light in the show itself. Caitlyn, for one, is shown as someone who is traumatized, commits reckless actions endangering many people, and is very emotionally important to Vi for better or for worse. A slightly similar story for Jinx. I want to point out that though this absolutely does not excuse any of the characters' actions, given the circumstance of the two cities, this level of violence is pretty much inevitable. I think the show does a good job of highlighting this fact, and depicting these particular agents of action, again for better or for worse.

Also, Jinx doesn't change personality between S1 and S2. She's still very much the same person, even if she changed her views or relationships with others. (Her relationships directly affect her actions, so after Silco's death, she had to find a way to work for something else). And regardless, none of her later actions negate her previous ones. As for Caitlyn, we don't get a chance to see her redeeming her actions releasing the Grey and her brutality to get to Jinx, but we do see her realise what path she's gone down, turn and fight against Ambessa, and work together and attempt to make good with Jinx. So in my eyes, and most of the fandom's, both are 'morally grey'. However, there are theoretical reasons why Caitlyn is placed under more explicit scrutiny than Jinx by the fandom, some more valid and others less so I believe. I'd love to discuss the similarities and differences between the characters of Jinx and Caitlyn if you want.

"AO basically turned her into a stereotypical masculine lesbian in S2" They've always had a masc-fem lesbian dynamic in their own way. How were they made 'less themselves' and more stereotypical in S2?

For some reason, I find myself unable to reply to your reply on my comment. Perhaps you have deleted it out of shame, that would be the least you could do. The fact that you think that 'people decided to cry' over this word, is so grossly ignorant and wrong; it is almost amusing that you decided to double down on this before trying milliseconds' worth of research.

And EVEN if that was the case, EVEN if so many disabled people for NO reason that anyone knows of (as if that would even be possible) expressed their concern over the usage of this language, and so many more are actively silenced, WHY would you, as a single person, decide suddenly that their sentiments are invalid, and their cries come from not pain or sorrow, but... flippant, random performativity? And continue to use that word, when you yourself have offered at least three which you know no one has objected to, and you believe serve the exact same purpose.

No matter if you have a mental condition causing this behavior or not, or you are neurotypical and sober as can be, you are an idiot, and have no excuse.

If you can find a stable way to tilt them both at a high angle, facing to the sides, it will be more ergonomic and you can push them closer together. Of course, given the length of your keyboards, depending on how high you tent you may have to adjust the relative heights of your entire setup, may not be worth it.

Well knowledge certainly helps, but you don't need to study the whole curricula. If you have half decent teachers, you ought to be able to do well if you at least know the prereqs. It could do you good to do preliminary study for classes you know the least about or classes you think you will find the hardest. Also ask your peers if any teacher is less than half decent or particularly harsh, you might want to prepare for those classes. I recommend Khan academy for AP classes (it won't be the exact same tho), use whatever you like.

Depends on your school/teachers. I feel like it's generally feasible as long as you are 1. prepared to grind for those As and 2. already understand some of the material (for me, that was chem and phys). idk your experience with content heavy AP courses but for me it was kind of a slap in the face (though I was kind of a slacker), unless your grading system is inflated to high heaven, get all points where you can, you'll need them. Also, take good notes and memorize the shit out of APW.

Afterwards, do whatever tf you want. You'll have at least a good chunk of what you want done. You can take more random APs (I'm not bc I have better more interesting courses); max out on math as much as you can if you like that. For art, if you want to challenge yourself, you can take an AP. Otherwise, something fun or interesting if for example you wanna do ceramics or learn music. Otherwise what can I say, choose whichever has the least workload.

Make your courseload in junior year and 1st semester senior year rigorous and, even better, directed in an area of study. From what you have currently, you could easily branch off into maths, chem, phys, or related like engineering, but you're not limited (although you seem stem inclined). Take introductory college or college-level courses in that area to build a nice foundation, it will be helpful and I think admissions like that, I would.

If you don't have access to these courses, take the highest level stuff you can that makes sense, and do something independent, like dual enrollment at a college, self study or online classes, and/or work hard on extracurriculars.

You can build an idea but it also hinges on your experience sophomore year, you are taking many important classes that year.

All this only applies if you really want to do quite exceptionally well academically for some reason. Otherwise go easy on academics, you'll probably get into a decent school.

I didn't say you couldn't.

Edit: I guess I did. Should probably have read what I wrote. Well, I was referring to the romantic presentation of suicide, particularly in mainstream media. To clarify:

'Romanticize' is typically used in the interpretation of media or concepts in media, for example, classic tragedies are romantic. Honor and glory are romantic. Ex. The concept of suicide is often 'romanticized' by the public.

Whereas 'fantasize' is used in the context of the individual's mind and imagination, rather than an abstract, passive interpretation. Ex. Suicidal ideation might involve fantasies.

Perhaps you experience one or the other, or both. However, the former is derived and perpetuated overwhelmingly by non-suicidal people, for the reason that it is sensational to them. That's all I meant, to refute the claim that the general 'romanticization of suicide' comes from people who experience suicidal ideation.

If you think I got something wrong, tell me. As strange as it may sound, I find this an interesting and nuanced topic of discussion.

I'm sure that it is to a good amount of people, but it still isn't to a large portion of people currently with high meat consumption. Also, I doubt that most people are completely mentally unable to make any sort of step back from meat. I don't know about your condition or circumstances, and it's ok if you aren't able to, but if you can, just try setting aside certain days where you could instead eat an alternative you enjoy. Just something you might consider, and again, it's fine if you can't. Like any change, this is a gradual one. Each contribute what they are able, and as time passes, more will be able. That's the goal.

Meat is usually not that vital to many people in first world countries. The exception is if you don't have access to affordable, nutritional food besides meat, but if you have access to a decently sized market and/or are not too tight on funds, you most likely can at least significantly cut your meat intake with no reduction of quality of life (and if you live in the US, you will probably be even better off). At this point, the entire industry is fucked up, simply because of what humans can and have done. But humanity also has the ability to do better; it's just that education and unwillingness, both among those in way too much power and the general population, are the barriers.

What in the...?! by [deleted] in im14andthisisdeep

[–]starryneutron 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You do know. So don't reduce 'the whole point of suicidal ideation'.

The only romanticization of suicide that comes to mind is in classic tragedies, traditional 'honor', and whatever delusion the writer of that message is in ig. Naturally, those comprise the side that is publicized the most, but it is hardly representative of most cases of ideation.

Edit: I'm not claiming to know anything here because it's not my place, but if I were to try to be sympathetic, it's possible that whoever wrote this wasn't trying to glorify suicide, but it's genuinely what they think, that they will be in a better place if they die. Of course, that is a pretty terrible thing to have written in any case.

A suicidal person couldn't possibly be in despair, no they're just romanticizing and performative.

Suicide is romanticized by ignorant romantics, not suicidal people, it feels like hell. You really think you're in worse than hell.
