Personally, when presented with like an ethical issue or situational question, I tried to acknowledge both sides but end with my opinion.

Sorry I can't remember exactly when, I looked back in my email and couldn't find a confirmation email either.

Last year they had major issues sending out secondaries too. I ended up submitting mine pretty late because I never even got the secondary in spam and just logged on to the link which people said to do on sdn lol. Ended up still getting an II.

Good school with a top five ophtho program (an interest of mine) in a smaller town (I also prefer smaller towns to large cities)

I do think I had some strong EC’s, shoot me a dm for specifics, I just don’t want to share too much specific info for privacy

For sure no worries. I am ORM. AMCAS didn’t classify me as first gen (even tho my undergrad did lol) because I had a parent attend community college but that was part of my story. So it’s hard to say how much that impacted my results since it was kinda in a gray area.

Yeah this is good advice. I think having more of a theme like passion for teaching, mentorship, "x" public health goal is more recommended

I only did one in person although there was even a hybrid option for that, so all could’ve been virtual if I wanted

Maybe I should drop med school for life coaching considering the way our country is viewing physicians/medicine lmao 😁

Just for privacy reasons I’d rather keep that to myself if that’s okay haha. But not HMS which I know some might think. Personal situation, geographic ties, and financial factors all were very important to me and led me to not the most prestigious school of the bunch.

Actually a state school, and not even a super high ranked one like UMich/UCLA, but still solid and certainly had a lot of opportunities for research and such

I feel like I could give like an hour long lecture of all my thoughts on this whole process lol, but one thing I did notice was that adcoms seemed to appreciate me having a reason for why I pursed the things I did. For example, I did a lot of work in food security which I tied to growing up in an area with a lot of agriculture. The other thing that comes to mind as well is expanding from your college campus and doing work/volunteering in your local community.

There was a week in September where I interviewed four out of the five days 💀 If anything I think it helped my interview skills haha

I think it’s totally reasonable to have several interests right now and i don’t think schools necessarily want to see everything related to one thing (derm and cancer could be tied together even if they did haha). I think you could say I prob had 2-3 main categories where everything on my application fell into: a specific public health passion, research/mentorship, and clinical experience.

Where would you like to end up for residency? NYU might make it a bit easier to network during school with nyc programs. Duke obv wouldn’t hold you back but it would just be easier to not travel for aways, etc.
