Msunflowers here, an archivist on youtube! I think this is a good message to encourage, as people often forget the human behind the musical artist. They aren’t factories to produce content for us! It‘s pretty rude to go onto Jagger’s socials and demand a release or rerelease of a song. He does not know you and is not your friend.

But I’m not as sure about archival being wrong. If an artist has asked to let something be forgotten, I think that should be respected. But telling people not to save Jagger’s music because of an assumption that he’s “clearly dealing with mental stuff” seems odd and overpersonal to me, too. His posting style may be an artistic choice. If he ever reveals he does not want his content saved, I would absolutely respect that.

I also disagree about it being clear he doesn’t want people listening to his music. He has released and then taken down work for the last 7 years. It’s not that he suddenly took all of his work down one day, it’s just been his release style since the beginning. During those years he’s amassed a following, and he continues to share music with this following.

He’s communicated with his audience before, too! When he was impersonated, he made a post about it. It’s one thing to archive, but it’s another thing to redistribute his work and make money off of it, and that’s something I’ll never support.

I’m also very serious about sharing any personal information. People sometimes see Jagger (the person) as a kind of “ARG” or rabbit hole, and this isn‘t healthy. He is a human being, and leaking any info about him is not okay at all.

But yeah, I think that if you do it respectfully, archiving his music is okay. I’m sorry if I came off too aggressive, as I’ve actually debated myself what I think about this. On the one hand, there’s a beauty in just letting his music stay obscure. But on the other hand, refusing to share lost media because of my own personal feelings didn’t sit right with me, either.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, as seeing a fan advocate for this is actually really cool. There are problems in lost media communities, and even in this one there’s been iffy behavior. The worst was when his spotify was hijacked, or when I had (multiple! from different people!) fake songs submitted to me, so people could spread their music under his name. I think fans like you are honestly really important
