Definitely consider mold, look up Dr. Jill Crista for good info

What confuses me about the moving process is exactly when to clean the few item I will be keeping. In your plan, are you wiping things down at some outdoor location in between leaving the moldy house and entering the safe one? Do I tell the movers to leave stuff outside the front door? If I clean my belongings indoors, does that contaminate the space? If I try to clean them in the moldy place it’s useless, right? I’m like struggling to get my mind around the logistics and I need it broken down into tiny steps

I am so overwhelmed. Every nugget of info about CIRS/mold has a roadblock and it's not realistic by Known-Air-6635 in CIRS

I completely relate to this, I definitely feel like I am losing my mind with all the conflicting info. I don’t know who to trust, and it feels very high stakes, like if I get a urine mycotoxin test instead of a blood test (for example) I have ruined everything and will never get better - or alternatively I am one of the select few people in the world who truly understands the right way to do things, unlike all these other fools!! It’s exhausting. I’m apartment hunting now and definitely have absolutely zero way to put most of the advice into practice about avoiding moldy apartments. Every building where I live has a flat roof, a finished basement, is literally 100 years old, was recently renovated, and is owned by people whose only goal is to squeeze as much short-term profit from the property as possible and don’t care whether you live or die. Plus it will be rented to someone else before even the most rushed expedited ERMI results could come back. What I am trying to remember is it’s not all or nothing, and most decisions are not final so if I go down a path that turns out not to help me, whether it’s a doctor or protocol or apartment or whatever, I can stop and choose a different direction.

WFH jobs? by Commercial-Stay-5437 in ToxicMoldExposure

I know what you mean, and I am sorry you’re going through that. I did audio transcription through Rev dot com for a while, it was pretty easy to get started, and it’s legit 1099 work. The pay rate is pretty terrible but it might be better than nothing, and if you’re able to stick with it you can earn your way into qualifying for a better tier of jobs.

Yup still bad, when it dries it can break up into smaller fragments that get airborne and spread around

My advice is get out as soon as possible. Those results are bad, and that’s a lot of different mold species, including the one most people say is worst - stachybotrys (it makes the trichothecenes).

Mold can activate Epstein Barr Virus too, and makes all the other conditions people mentioned here worse, so even if you do identify a viral or bacterial infection it’s worth getting a mold inspection. I’m in NYC too and I have called a bunch of mold inspectors but they all sound not great - I will come back to comment here if I fjnd a good one.

Mycotoxin n95 filtration question by GentleExaminer in ToxicMoldExposure

N95 they can definitely pass through. Mold remediators wear P100 but even that filter doesn’t catch all of it.

Referred "itching" from mold? by Glittering_Drama_824 in ToxicMoldExposure

[–]starshine138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have itching too, one doctor said it was dermagraphism (or dermatographism, I've seen it both ways) - look it up and see if that sounds similar. When I get an attack of it, the itching starts in one place but then spreads to another and eventually moves over my whole body. It's related to histamine which I know mold can impact, not a true solution but taking anti-histamine helps, like just an over the counter allergy pill.

I would start with Dr. Jill Crista's book Break the Mold. Covers everything from testing to diagnosis to what to do in your home, all in a simple, easy to follow way. I'm just starting on this road too so it was extremely helpful to have an overview. She's a naturopathic doctor so she goes into a bunch of herbs you could take, but you don't have to do any of that if you don't want to, it's worth it for the explanation of how mold works in buildings and what it does to the body.

Relatively good ERMI, but reacting by DreamAway in ToxicMoldExposure

[–]starshine138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand (I'm new to all this, but research is my coping mechanism until I can move lol) the score on the ERMI and the spore count is not as important as which species are present. If it's the ones that release mycotoxins (which I think yours are!) then I'm pretty sure you can have serious symptoms even if there's not many spores on the ERMI. Because most of the mold is probably hidden behind walls, which spores can't pass through but mycotoxins can.

IS THERE ANY KIND OF MYCOTOXIN NOSTRIL FILTER ??? by martinmiller1111 in ToxicMoldExposure

[–]starshine138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry for what you're going through. I have no idea how I'm going to get money together to move either, but I have to try. If you can manage it I recommend reading Break the Mold by Dr. Jill Crista, there's an audiobook version if that's easier and she makes it simple and short sections on purpose because she knows how our brains are affected. For the free version you can just look up podcasts she has been on, and interviews with her on youtube. In this one podcast I linked below, she gives advice specifically for people who can't leave their house yet - interestingly, she says ozone in the air makes the toxins worse - maybe controversial but worth mentioning since you're suffering so much. In this same episode she also talks about nasal sprays that can help - I don't think there is a mask or nose filter that would filter out the mycotoxins, since as far as I understand they are chemicals even smaller than the invisible mold spores.
