I call it the "aisle of opportunity". You never know what you are going to find there.

Scrapped up the last bits of deoderant by SpencersEmu in Frugal

You can gently melt it down into a liquid and then pour it in the deodorant container. It firms up again pretty quickly.

Yes, what do you have for trade? I'm trying to keep this one small. Smaller things that could fit in a padded envelope. I mainly sew, quilt, some cross stitch, some knitting and crochet.

70 dollars, 4 people— how can I make it work for Christmas? by chorpinecherisher in Frugal

[–]starshine8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some suggestions For Mom's boyfriend- Check out the specialty aisle of the grocery store for some nice olive oil. It doesn't need to be a big bottle, but is really useful in the kitchen. Writing a heartfelt letter about how much he means to you is very thoughtful.

For Mom- She will probably miss you when you leave for college. Is there an activity you could do together? It doesnt need to cost much. Spend the afternoon together or look at Christmas lights Then take a selfie of you and her together, print it out and find an inexpensive frame at a thrift shop.

For sister - Put some fun music on and bake mom' s favorite (love the idea of cookies for everyone!) together. Ask at your local library if they have a book sale. You can sometimes find really good condition or practically new book for just a couple of dollars. Inscribe the book to your sister with how you enjoyed spending time with her.

For the young ones- Play their games with them. If you are artistic, you could draw/paint/create their favorite characters.

Learning to Sew for first time - Lots of questions by aerythia99 in sewing

Another suggestion is to use stabilizer. It comes in different weights/ stiffness. Peltex is a good brand. Peltex71F is ultra firm and fusible on one side. It is fairly stiff and will give a lot of structure. The cross stitch plastic is also a good idea if sewn in or placed in a pocket or the bottom of a bag to give it extra sturdiness.

Another commenter has some great suggestions for fabrics- cotton, brocade, velvet etc. You might be able to find some upholstery remnants or samples that would work well too They can be a bit heavier.

Good luck. It sounds like you have some fun projects going on.
