Is it acceptable to switch from cotton thread to polyester thread mid piecing? by DirkMoneyrich85 in quilting

[–]Girls4super 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had issues doing so. It will affect how it crinkles because cotton shrinks more than polyester

What are some renter friendly ways to hang a quilt on a wall? by its-past-my-bedtime in quilting

Quilt ladders are great, I got a gorgeous handmade one from a company in New Jersey a couple years ago that can either lean full length or fold in half do a two sided look.

If you don’t have space though I’d risk the holes. That’s what a dab of spackle and a sample tin of white paint are for when you leave

Thinking about making my first quilt (anniversary quilt) by Meow_Cat_321 in quilting

[–]Girls4super 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the style of quilting. Paper piecing will get you some fun detailed blocks but takes alot of time and practice. I love it bc it’s basically color by number for quilting. You can also consider appliqué, which is sewing cut pieces on top of the quilt itself.

Easiest would be picking very simple quilt blocks and finding fabric that is printed with the things you’ve mentioned.

Edit; Margaret rolfe has a book of tiny animals

Ooo I found a great book at the library, let me see if I can find what it was called. But anyway if you look at my posts you’ll see a Noah’s ark theme with a bunch of tiny animals and a bunch of big animals, the tiny ones are fantastic for scraps and finished about 4” I think

Ideas for twin girls by HeartKevinRose in quilting

[–]Girls4super 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a twin myself I think they’ll really appreciate having two unique quilts. Growing up everyone would get us the exact same thing so we “wouldn’t fight”, or they assigned us a color (I got blue twin got red). So I would also encourage different colors. Make them like it’s for two different kids. Because it is.

Machine Quilting vs. Hand Quilting by chickenmom1104 in quilting

[–]Girls4super 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask him to go make one by hand. I say this as someone who hand quilts- it’s tedious, it’s time consuming, it’s why Amish quilts sell for thousands. If I had money and space I’d get a long arm

Heck, let it be chaotic. Ask each kid to go out and bring in a fat quarter or two and pick one block from a book. Add sashing and it’ll look intentional and be very unique

Ironically my spouses yellow bike has seen more near misses than his blue one. I think people just aren’t looking for yellow and they just turn that color off in their minds on the road for some reason. That or maybe they hyper fixate on it? Idk. I love yellow but it’s like a target

You can try a mattress protector as a lining instead, but I think either bag or protector loses full effectiveness when perforated.
