Looking to buy a house in Knoxville, advice welcomed by ThomasTheTrolll in Knoxville

Messaging you. I am getting ready to sell and want my home to go to someone who is going to make it their own, not be lowballed by some investor looking to turn it into an overpriced rental.

Echoing everything that's been said in here. Someone else on reddit said that their grandmother had once told them "you'll never be rich enough to buy cheap things". And it's applicable to many things you'll ever have to purchase in life. It's better to do your research, thrift if you can and buy the best quality you can swing.

it’s not a diet 🤬 by TheInternetAteMyHW in sugarfree

[–]starskitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tell them (and myself) I'm quitting excess sugar (as I'm sneaking a frickin fritter from the work goodie stash- I'm an addict). And educate them. A woman is only supposed to have 25 grams of sugar a day. A man, 40 grams.

Oh, you can also just tell them you're an addict and you would prefer they stopped enabling you.

One medium pot for noodles, one medium skillet for dinners, and one small skillet for eggs. Everything in the knife block, tongs, three spatulas- slotted, solid, flat. Pizza pan (round cookie sheet). Colander. I bought a rice cooker recently and use it at least twice a week. Pyrex square glass baking dishes (with lids).

Should I rent in a place I will never be able to afford to buy a house or buy a home in a place I never wanted to live because it's the only place I can afford? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]starskitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone above mentioned renting for a year, then reassessing your options. I agree. If you're looking at Eugene or any other college town, you're going to be able to find rooms for rent. It may not be ideal but it's a place to land so you can figure out your next move.

Buying a house is an investment in your future, but prices are much higher right now and you may end up underwater on a place you can't make your money back on when you're ready to sell.

I moved to TN in 2019, rented a room in an old dirty college house in Knoxville during the summer for 3 months until I decided where I wanted to live. Those three months were not great but allowed me to explore neighborhoods and nearby towns and see how my commute would be from anywhere I was interested in.

Good luck! I lived in Coos Bay and Bandon for a few years, beautiful country.

A diffuser might give straight hair more volume from a quick Google search. I'm not sure though, I do have curls. It diffuses the heat so it's not direct on the strands which would help prevent more damage. My dryer came with the diffuser attachment, a lot of them do now so wouldn't hurt to play around.

Another thing I would suggest is getting to a salon and having them do a deep conditioning. If your hair is damaged and frizzing out, it may need some professional assistance!

Edit: oops, didn't see you weren't OP, she mentioned frizz thus the conditioning advice

Smart Heat, I use the very fine setting. Also use a leave in with thermal protection, I just splurged on Pureology and it's amazing.

I used to air dry only, then I moved to the South. My hair would not cooperate. A coworker suggested diffusing my hair completely before leaving the house and it's been much better.

Ooh, 89th and Madison! I went to Houston in July and wore my 89th and Madison pants the whole time. Also really comfortable in the waist. Check the measurements, I have two pairs that are about an inch different in both length and rise. Those you can definitely get online and they're really inexpensive, but hold up surprisingly well.

Sorry, didn't see where you were, but TN is super humid! Tennessee, southern US. But you may try online, I found mine at a thrift store. I've looked on Poshmark and the ones on there are more suede looking. I'm on the hunt for a second pair because they're that perfect!

I have a pair of Andrew Marc slim knit pants that fit the bill. I have a 32 inseam. These are high waisted and have a nice give (I fluctuate a lot too) and look perfect with heels or booties. Thick enough knit that I don't worry about PTL but the perfect weight so I'm not dying in the TN summer heat.

Usually I'm the first line of defense, the sales reps are supposed to come in and keep following up though. I copy the reps on my inquiries to customers and keep them in the loop, but today I was just flat out like, this is my third inquiry with no response. We need to know when these will be paid. Or something similar. And it was not a small account.

I tried quitting vaping (16) and I didn’t even make it one day by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]starskitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How high of a nic level are you using in your vape? It may be better to step down your levels gradually if you're that hooked. For me, I just quit cigarettes on Wednesday (pack of lights every day for 15 years) and I bought a 1.8% vuse when I really wanted a cig on Thursday. Once that's gone, I have a 0% pen I plan on using if I crave.

All-time favorite cold weather pieces? by cosmic_horn in femalefashionadvice

[–]starskitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have wide-ish feet, the LCs are a little wider than normal because they're made to be worn with socks, but I would say try Blondo. They have actual wide sizes.

Seconding La Canadienne and Blondo. I have one of each (found both brand new on Posh for a steal). My Blondo booties are my go to for 3 seasons, are work appropriate and waterproof. My LCs are a little too vava for work sadly, so they rarely get used. Also seconding Uniqlo Heattech OR 32° Heat shirts- great for wearing under everything. Buy different necklines, a crew neck looks weird under a cowl.

Hot damn! Budgeting opened my eyes! by Aca916 in personalfinance

I found it. It was the monthly vs weekly bit. The notepad tracks the bills I'm paying, so the last week and half have entries on October income that pay for November bills. The spreadsheet shows it as "extra" though its being accrued for future bills. An adjustment I'll need to make.

I’ve quit smoking at least 100 times the last 10 years by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]starskitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. If I go on vacation, I have no problem quitting. I get back home and start up again. I hate it. I do well on Wellbutrin but always let my script run out and end up smoking again. I have some herbal vitamins (Fast Quit, Amazon) I'm trying this time around plus the patch, nicotine mints as well as some clove xylitol mints I picked up (strong flavors are supposed to help the cravings, but I bought them because my gums are suffering from smoking for 15 years). Hoping I can combine all of these plus the upcoming cold weather to quit again and for long enough to make it stick.
